why? i know a few people who do this and they don't make sense to me...what is the point of taking part in somthing that you don't believe in? do you bet a game that has a -ev? why not? or do you only believe in betting on a +ev wager????@):)

Christmas did not begin with the birth of Jesus. Christian leader's actually stole a pagan holiday and made it their own. The last time I checked, the ancient pagan's did not believe in the god of abraham - which would mean if you "really" wanted to take a part in a celebration of the true christmas holiday you would need to go outside and worship trees, grass, animals, etc. I look forward to your intelligent response.

BTW, I bet for fun - I don't carry some false delusion that I can only find +EV wagers (unless of course I am playing 100%+ VP or counting cards) in sports betting...you on the other hand seem to be firmly aboard the delusion train...

I don't believe in God.

My son believes in Santa Claus and I get a week off work. So we celebrate Christmas ...

Give my son Santa Claus and give me a week off for Yom Kippur and I would celebrate Yom Kippur too.

BTW....the holiday was called Saturnalia if you want to look it up. It was basically a week of debauchery and lawlessness - kind of odd for the christians to steal such an awful celebration right? There is also a treasure-trove of easily obtainable materials that explains why we have christmas trees, mistletoe, santa clause, and why the earth (full of plants mind you) wasn't created before the sun.

Spot on. So much of our Christmas tradition has it roots in Norse mythology. Christian Christmas celebrates the symbolic birth of Jesus and was timed by early church leaders to match existing pagan feasts and celebrations. The winter solistice represented a special time for pagans. The rebirth of the sun so to speak as the days began to get longer.

I don't see the relationship of non-believers celebrating christmas to a bet (be it +ev or -ev). I'm a little slow on the uptake though.

I celebrate it, to some extent... It's a good time to donate your time, money, or goods - and enjoy a rare day off from work with those you love. I don't see where the gamble is.

i think it should be called saturnalia again, throw in the debauchory and the lawlessness and we have a celebration in order

whether or not you believe in the christians having 'stole' the holiday from pagan's to call it their own is irrelavent to belief of the MEANING of CHRISTmas for those who do believe in God. believing is of your choice, which doen't bother me either way. betting for fun the way you do is prob why, like the pagan's, is a losing cause. enjoy it however you wish to my friend, and, MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YR TO YOU...

it doesn't make sense to make consistent -ev wager's and expect to win doing this in the long run...sort of like a car thief stealing and selling them to make money, which will eventually end him up in jail, instead of just becoming a car salesmen at an autodealership and staying out of jail...

News flash - Christians don't have a monopoly on Christmas and the holiday carries a wide variety of meaning to people of all different faiths, creeds, and agendas. It's not your fault you had the Christian religion beat into your brain since birth and now you are convinced of it's authenticity even in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary - if you picked up a textbook and read a little bit about human nature this would all make sense to you. Shouldn't you be out bashing homosexuals, oppressing women, casting demons, and speaking in the "unknown tongue" instead of spending your time on a gambling forum on your holy day??

If Jesus was born in the year 0 AD/BC

... and if Christmas was Jesus' birthday.

Why is Christmas on December 25th???? Wouldn't it have to be Jan 1st?

He was born on the 360th day of his own year????

why r u coming into this thread to try and bash me and my belief's? not sure if you understand where the 'world' stands on this holiday being related to the birth of christ, which is exactly my point to the people like yourself that don't care, or don't believe. i can read, and have read many book's on both side's. i believe in the king james version of the bible and all of it's teaching's. if you do not read this, then i can understand your hatred for those that do, sad, but true. your assumption's r laughable at best, but i can respect your opinion's even if i don't agree, which differs you and i.and, today is not x-mas btw, it is only the 5th. i don't go around bashing the like's of which you stated, not my job nor my interest. you come in here bashing w anger like so many lib's are acustomed to do when confronted woth the real truth. i wish you the best and hope you have a very happy HOLYday...
