peteep- I hope you end up with a nice score off this. I don't know how you're sitting right now but get what you can out of the next 2 games. This series is over. The Marlins are done. You can stick a fork in them. The series will not be going back to Yankee Stadium.

The Series IS going back to Yankee stadium.

Peteep, I assume you died a thousand deaths tonight since the 9th inning - there's still time to hedge more on the Yankees, whether you do it on the ML game by game or by a series hedge. I know you have the problem with cash reserves probably preventing you from doing it, cannot think of anything else to say except good luck the rest of the way. Best 2 out of 3 now.

He really ought to give out emergency contact info to a few people here.

If I was in his shoes, I'm not sure that I'd be able to survive this series.

I'd love to see some PRE game updates on the plays to hear the opinions.

Very complex #'s game and a lot of people could learn a LOT from the discussion.

LOL!! It's safe to say my heart had quite the workout last night. I thought the Yankees were gonna win as soon as they tied it up. The Marlins had been stone cold at the plate and their bullpen has been shaky lately. But no.....Looper comes in and saves the day with a K and a popout and then Gonzalez decides to make me like him again. Unbelievable rush.

I have about $6k hedged on the yanks right now. Probably won't do all that much more for reasons which I already expained.

Both my exams are done now, so I can focus purely on baseball. This will be a hell of next couple of days. My fingers are crossed.

But if they keep that 9th inning shit up, they eventually are going to pay for it.

No offense, but thank God that Willis won't be be starting game 6, after pitching that 8th inning I knew he was not slated. I know what he's done this year, but he's absolutely blown in the playoffs, EXCEPT for 2 out of 3 relief appearances. Gotta like having Beckett and Pavano set for 6 and 7 even on short rest, but the key will be whether the Marlins bats will stay alive against Pettite and Mussina.

And here's Olympic's odds ...

7:00 pm Pitchers RunLine Total MoneyLn
961 Florida Marlins J Beckett -R -145 +110 +156
962 New York Yankees A Pettitte -L -1½ +125 8 -130 -166

For the Series:

10/25/2003 7:10 PM Florida Marlins vs New York Yankees

815 Florida Marlins -145
816 New York Yankees +125

oh baby! This is my first time livn a lil vicariously through a poster. Hate the spankees and love 40k. Go fishy fishies.

SO that 6k you have hedged. Is that to win 6 costin you 10 from before or is that 6 risked.

You stand to win 34k?

Now what Peteep? I know you're up boozing. Don't try pretending you're sleeping. Like you can, lol.
There's been a lot of talk about hedging, but at this point it's basically gambling. You could walk away with at least 23k right now... so you're risking that for a shot at 34k with a worst case scenario of winning 4-5k(not sure what you got the Yanks at for 6k).
I'd take this approach... would you bet $14,500 to win $10,000 on the Marlins right now if you had that in your offshore account? Cuz that's exactly what you're doing if you don't hedge.
I know you have the liquidity problem. Have you tried negotiating with Bluegrass?

This is fun! Thank you Mr. Wells for not believing in working out. Sorry 'bout your back. I guess that's what happens when all your starters are senior citzens.

Anyways, I like where I stand! The 6k I have hedged is the risk amount. I will play a bit more on the yanks now.....just not sure how much. I won't hedge right down the middle. I know some people must think I'm stupid for not taking the sure win, but I can't make myself do it. I have faith in these fish. What a squad.

This weekend is gonna be tense! All I want is for the Marlins to score 50 runs in the first inning saturday. That's not too much to ask. Just gotta hope their closers can hold the yankees to under 50 runs in the ninth.

On a side note, imagine being Cabrera. You start the season playing single A ball. Now you're batting clean-up in the World Fvcking Series. Not bad for a 20 year old kid.

Go fish!

Oh yeah.....and sorry for keeping you guys hanging. I don't have internet access at home temporarily so I only have time to check the forums if I'm at work or between classes at school.

peteep, if you are lacking the funds to hedge completely give me a hollar. Maybe we can work something out.

Personally I would give this one more game before hedging anymore cash. If the fish win game six...time to celebrate. If the yanks win game six...hedge yourself to a nice win of about 15k.

I sincerely hope I'm the first to wish you congratulations, peteep - I personally would have taken the 18K, but you stuck it out and got the 34K - my congratulations!!!

But son, and I can say that since I'm 47, don't, PLEASE don't, let this win go to your head. It's a fine win, it's a GREAT win, but it's only ONE win, and having won it, it doesn't mean that everything you like from here on out will win. Because that just won't happen. A lot of people on a big win will try to press their luck - you will not. You will arrange to get your money, you will bank it and you will lay off betting for the next month. You might feel like you are King Kong, but you aren't - you are actually at your most vulnerable right now after a huge win. Resist. Buy your lady something wonderful, put aside money for a fantastic spring break vacation, but by all means protect your capital. Understand how rare your kind of win is, realize that 97% or more of all gamblers lose, and resolve not to be one of them. Consider putting a lot of your cash into CDs, so that you won't be tempted to gamble the money - put a lot into 6, 9 and 1 year CDS, on a 'ladder'. Make sure that every year of college, you'll have enough cash to pay your tuition. But so that you don't go nuts, set aside something like $5,000 as your bankroll to gamble with, but no more - and stick to it. If you lose all of it, you're still up almost $30,000 - and don't dip into that. Period.

Take my word for it - please stay away from degenerate gambling and use this great win to make your life better and not worse. One win does not make you Billy Walter. Trust me. What I DON'T want to happen to you is the same old shit that happens to people who make a big score and then think that one score makes them all-wise - because what happens then is that they bet big bucks and lose. Almost inevitably. Don't be a loser, peteep - enjoy your win and use it to build your future.

Now go enjoy your win with your lady and just enjoy the night - and btw, I cashed 13 units on the Marlins win tonight, so I was there with you in spirit, though not for the same ducats, as I indeed did hedge on the Yankees for I wanted the sure thing.

God speed, peteep
