You are blowing smoke because you checked and found out that the cost for those countries is considerably less. I have read the stats on several but not going to chase it down for you.

Why do you think that we are the only civilized country that tries to do it this way?

Reading stats at Democratic Underground doesn't count.

You cut and pasted several opinions. I dont believe they are facts.

These are facts,

Fact: anyway you measure it the French are healthier than we are.

Fact: the average Frenchman sees their doctor half again as often than the average American

Fact: the french have essentially 100% of their population covered.

Fact: The cost per person for health care is considerably less in France than here.

Ok Punt...we won't expect you to take any responsibility, or make any effort for your own comments.

Dish it off on somebody else...that's what makes you a lib..by definition.

Been drinking a lot of wine myself, that whiskey was killing me.

What do you do with all the corks? I cant bring myself to throw them away cause the are in such good shape.

Was thinking about inventing a cork gun to sell to wine drinkers that are having a problem keeping the squirrels outta the bird feeders.

Are they healthier, sure I could see that. Do the French eat McDonalds and have more fat asses than we do? HELL NO, they don't. Why don't we let Prez BO regulate how much Americans can eat as well. That will cut down on the cost of health insurance.

Maybe instead of taxing the piss outta butts we should go after grease burgers.

Or just make it possible to see your Dr. more often and let him read you the riot act.

The government controls Medicare. It's broke.

The government controls Medicaid. It's broke.

The government controls the VA system entirely, including running its own hospitals. It's broke.

There is no evidence whatsoever that suggests, or proves in any way, that the federal government can control the health care system and control costs.

Every single time it has tried to do so...FAIL leads to broke.

But this time it's different...sure it is.

As of June 2, 2009, the total U.S. federal debt was $11,382,737,715,925.23,or about $37,348 per capita. Of this amount, debt held by the public was roughly $7.098 trillion. In 2007, the public debt was 36.8 percent of GDP, with a total debt of 65.5 percent of GDP. As of 2007, the debt of the United States ranked as the 22nd-largest in the world as a percentage of GDP. As of June 2009 the debt was 82.5 percent of GDP based on current GDP. This level of debt has not been seen since 1951, with the nominal value the largest in recorded history. The President's 2010 budget estimates that total debt relative to GDP will rise to 97% by 2010 and stabilize at approximately 100% thereafter.

and rising..........dramatically

The next baby born in the US is in debt about $37,348.
I would say the entire country is in big doo doo
, not just health care or VA benefits.

A Canadian slant.

We have had Gov. health care for my entire life.
It is sick care not health care.
We only treat a problem and are not interested in good health.
The system is in shambles.
Almost 50% of the provincial budget is going to health care.
And getting worse.
New drugs to keep people alive and transplants are killing the general idea.
Want an MRI? Try 6 months...........if your lucky.
Dough or no dough.
3 countries make private health care illegal
Cuba, N. Korea and Canada
Wanna be in this group??

I think Americans look at Canada's government health care and use it as an example that government health care can't work. I contend that Americans already have a socialized system that works. It's called the legal system.

Let's apply that to our health system. If a citizen (not illegal immigrants) are too poor to afford health care they can wait like they do in Canada but at least they get care. If someone wants better, faster care they can pay insurance premiums out of their own pocket and get better, faster care.

However, in line with what punter is alluding to, I would like to add one more aspect. That is that people who get preventive care cost less in health care than those who simply treat symptoms. That's why insurance companies are willing to give annual dental checkups and annual physicals at such a low price. It is cheaper for them in the long run to treat diseases in the early stages.

Since government does things less efficiently in almost everything, I say we subsidize preventive care for everyone with private doctors/companies providing the care and getting subsidized from the government. People will get preventive care paid for by the government which, in turn, will be cheaper than treating someone who has bad health later.

In all the countries that I know of socialized medicine has lowered the cost.

Higher cost is just a conservative talking point.

right :ohno:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

A preliminary estimate by the Congressional Budget Office said the bill would cost $1 trillion over 10 years but leave many uninsured. The office said an early version of the Finance Committee bill would cost $1.6 trillion.
Senate Democrats conceded that the unexpectedly high estimates had forced them to regroup, and acknowledged that they were still divided over how to pay for the legislation.

I've never had serious health issues, other than a broken hand but I've had two children, both delivered via C-Section so we were in the hospital for 3½ days each and it included all of the follow up visits and shots etc.

The Total cost for all three was $60 and that is because we wanted TV in the room.

I did have to wait 4 hours in emergency before they could operate on my hand.

I never had had any issues with the Canadian Medical system.

What would two kids and a broken hand cost someone in the US?

Isn't it interesting that many of the same people that say Doctors are responsible for more deaths than firearms are so resistant to changing the system.

But Really what ever happens to your health care, your government will fuck it up. The Population in the US is so polarized that neither side will looked past ideologies and create something that works.

I wouldn't be surprised if the US separated into three nations with in 50 years. East USA (The Atlantic Coast) West USA (The Pacific Coast) and the Central USA (Everything in between)
