they do sneak into the US to have babies, there's a hospital in el paso that is known as a completely free hospital for mexican nationals. Sneak is not even the word to used. they don't even have to sneak. If pregnant ladies are stopped when strolling across the border they will probably just take them to the hospital and treat them, it's a joke. Yes they walk over to have their kids and the kid is born an american citizen and is eligible for welfare. the truth hurts but this is it.

It's bankrupting several states, end of story.

The root of the problem in Cal. at least, is still the promise of work. Some illegal workers actually commute weekly without their families. Another aspect of the entire illigal family problem is anyone who can work will try to work. Its not like the wives and older children just sit around the house and collect welfare. When they get sick or injured they get treament. The younger ones get schooling if they want it. Stop stealing from the goverment by the employers and you will stop the problem. Maybe a severe law punishing any business that employs illegals is the answer.

The laws are on the books, it's a joke. The laws are not enforced. The gov could stop this problem tomorrow both sides want the votes. California is probably the most beautiful state (next to hawaii) in America and look what it's become.

Then who's fault is that the laws remain uninforced? I am the last person to advocate putting more people in jail. I say charge large fines for businesses that hire illigals. Make it a civil thing. You get caught hiring illiegals you pay big. I am not a sociologist, but this seems to be a social weekness in our culture. By that I mean a person who in all ways is a law abiding and tax-paying, loyal American will think it is OK to hire an illigal alien. There is the root of the problem. A lot of people will say no its our loose borders, but take away the incentive to cross (jobs) and people will not cross. Just as you have said why go to Mexico and work, it is a waste of time.

Neither California nor any other state in the US has ever come anywhere near deregulation of the power industry. Just because they call it "deregulation" does not mean a thing, except that the media and consumer groups and political officials can then blame the resulting problems on "greedy corporations" and the dumbass public will believe it.

If you can't acknowledge the obvious then it's hard to discuss anything with you.

California is run by all socialist leaders. They believe in cradle to grave care for all. The producers are leaving and the state is in 40 BILLION debt. Open your eyes.

46 out of the 50 states are in debt. It is just to what degree that separates them. California has what the 3rd or 4th the largest economy in the world. New York is not far behind. How about Florida look at the problems there. Most states are trying to pay their bills with lotteries and casinos, which only causes more poverty, but that is another issue.

Californias debt equals the combined amount of all the other 49 states. California is run by socialists there's no way around facing the fact that california is a socialist failure.

Do you believe illegal immigration is a problem for California?

Do you believe the leaders in California are for as much government control as possible?

Do you believe the problem in california is taxes are too low and if they just raise taxes the problem would be solved?

As for your question all of the above to some extinct. Now the politicians never come right out and say they embrace socialism because they known Americans hate socialism and would run them out of office, just follow their actions though.

I will be honest with you my knowledge of Cal. politics is limited. As far as immigration goes, I believe in the process. Not border jumping, or unlimited legal access. The United States is a country of immigrants, to close the process of immigration totally would not be right. To call the leaders (who ever they are) of the state, socialists in to vague. Anyway, have a good night I am beat and going to call it a night.
BTW. you could see your way to giving me a small bit of credit for my debate with EEK.(the Wesley Clark thread) I kept waiting for you to jump in. Later.

The producers are leaving and the state is in 40 BILLION debt.

Lmao...
Are these the same people that "produce" movies?

Or perhaps you mean the power companies that are leaving, money in hand, because they've milked the state's citizenry for all they can and now they're faced with either fessing up (and thus, paying up) or running...

That would be my "obvious" deduction.

Illegal immagration is a drain on our welfare system. Even legal immigration is a drain on our welfare system. The question is how tough would you like our legislators to set the law and our executive officers to enforce it. I believe the laws are not tough enough to begin with and even those laws are not enforced. I'm beginning to think that we may have to go through a period of shoot first - ask questions later to get a handle on this major problem.

Good luck getting the democrat to pass tougher legislation though. These immigrants vote democratic so their welfare chacks roll on. SOCIALIST = DEMOCRATS

Immigrants cannot vote. You have to be an American citizen. Just thought you should know.

I think the important thing to take into consideration when discussing this issue is that similar to the war on drugs there's no way to win.
If you send a hundred illegals back home a hundred more will come the next day. If you build a fence, they'll dig under it, take boats around it. It's simply a matter of a poor people living next to a rich nation with more opportunities for making money. The same thing happens in Costa Rica with Central Americans (Nicaraguans in particular). They won't stop coming until their country provides the same opportunities, in other words probably never. That effect is even more intensified in the U.S. due to the fact that we are considered the land of opportunity and are a nation that was started by immigrants.
I think efforts would be better spent forcing them to become legal, tax paying members of society.
