Congrats on winning night. I guess we both were on right side of Fordham/George Washington depending on what number was gotten. Best of luck tomorrow.

Last night was interesting as I answered phones and wrote tickets for my local.(We are good friends and he had to attend a wake.)I did not write a single ticket for South Carolina or Dayton as they were all over MSU and St.Joe's.I was told to use my discretion with the lines even though I was using Don Best premium.I was quoting Memphis at -5.5 to try to get people to take ECU so I guess I was a traitor to our cause for a couple of hours.Took all kinds of bets-4 team teasers(with Duke-18.5?), parlays, turns, etc.More than one person bought .5 to move Duke from 22.5 to 22.Anyway,enough of that, but it was interesting to see what the public was on.

3*Portland State-2.5
First the bad.PSU has lost 4 of 5 at home and road teams are 18-16 in league play.PSU did win at NAU earlier this year as they dominated the glass.PSU has a pretty stingy defense as they allow 66 ppg.NAU is only 3-8 this year when held below their average of 76.PSU will own the glass again and get the home win.

3*Pacific+1
Been playing Utah State all year, but this looks like it will be it for their conference perfection.

3*Rice-8.5
Rice has been kicked on their road their last two games.I still feel they are the best team in the WAC.Enter Tulsa, who beat the Owls a few weeks back.Bad spot for the Golden Hurricanes.

2*Ohio-2
Akron 1-6 on the road in MAC play.

1*Alabama-7
Total homer play.

Only read below if you are really bored. It has nothing to do with picks.

My initial purpose in coming to the Rx was to gather information for a book I am writing about gambling and how it has affected(effected? I have never been able to get that right) my life. This book is not a big deal;it is simply for my own satisfaction.

Certain events I remember like they happened yesterday. In high school(18 years ago),3 of my friends were down a total of 42,000.(They were betting through another high school student who claimed he was putting the bets in elsewhere.Everyone was almost certain the bets were never placed, but the parents were afraid something would happen to the kids so they paid off the debts). One of the guys sold Cutco knives all summer and made 25,000 to pay back his parents. All of the community housewives felt sorry for him and bought knives. He was one of the top 5 salesmen in the country at the age of 18.My mother bought the knives and gave them to me.I still have them.

I also remember being a college student and getting in the hole for the first time-we doubled up on that Monday night game between Indy and Denver(1989 I think).A friend's last advice was "Denver's not very good on artificial turf."Sure they are not.We took Denver and I think they were down 42-7 in the first half.

I was also on the other side for a brief while I was in grad school working on my MBA.We took bets and got stiffed for about 8,000 and could not pay our customers. An interesting sidenote in this story was a guy named JP.He would take 3,4 or 5 basketball games and play them straight and in teasers, parlays, and turns. He,of course, lost his ass to us and he disappeared.Three years later,I was at my local's house in a different city.It was the time of night when he was taking calls. He had multiple calls and asked me to answer one.I answered-"This is JP.Give me.......It was the same guy.I took his bets(losers of course) and said nothing else.My local said JP usually paid by stealing from a BBQ restaurant where he worked. He eventually disappeared again after getting down a few thousand.

I am sharing (or torturing you with) these stories with you because my brief time at the Rx has also given me plenty to write about.(Some of you guys are pretty interesting to say the least).I am also at the juncture where gambling needs to take a lesser role in my life.I will be engaged within the next year and will move quickly towards parenthood after that.Even though I am winning this year,I am ashamed of the hold that gambling has on me.I detest the fact that I cannot focus on a dinner conversation because I am wondering if New Mexico is covering the spread.Or excusing myself to the restroom in a restaurant so I can check scores on my pager compliments of CRIS.or checking up on my thread to see if anyone has responded.Perhaps some of you have been there.

As it is Valentine's Day, I will try to honor a request by my girlfriend to cutback on my gambling. And as a result the behaviors mentioned above,I will no longer be posting on the Rx on a regular basis.I will not say never because I am sure I will drop by on occasion. In the meantime, you guys keep tearing it up and continue to make this forum the best around.

Old Man Ted your wisdom, kindness, sincerity, and selflessness are what the world needs more of-not just this forum.I appreciate your responses and would love to be able to email you if possible.

KojakYou are a good soul.May your days be long and fulfilling.

Handicappers too numerous to mention-You are the best group I have seen.Remember why you are here.

Best wishes to all,
Low Tide

i think it is time you found a new g/f - one that doesn't mind you gambling. next thing you know she will be asking you to wear makeup, shave your legs and wear a mini skirt. be a man here and tell her you are the boss and if she don't like you gambling - she can go to he...

seriously - understand 100% - hope things work out great for the 2 of you - although i would let her know that gambling and sex will have an inverse proportion in your relationship. the less you gamble - the more sex you get - and vice versa. unless she is a dog (doubt she is) that will only benefit you

Low Tide:

Completely and fully understand. You are making a wise choice and trust me when I tell you I speak from experiencing the same path as I am sure many posters either feel or have felt and done the very same things. Choose a good life with family over this business any and every time. Congratulations on soon to be getting married and becoming a father. I don't usually give out my e-mail but will make an exception here....adios19802000@yahoo.com........Best wishes to you and your new family.

Not trying to be George Foreman by coming back for this post. Was not trying to be dramatic with my previous post either.Had a long talk with my girlfriend and will be working on MODERATION.Will definitely be done for an extended period after college hoops.Anyway,I have a big card for Wed. and am going to loosen up on the bankroll.

Plays rated 1-4 units.

4*Tennessee-6.5
Ole Miss has been playing better lately, but that has been at home. The Rebels are 0-5 on the road in the SEC with an average margin of defeat of 13.6.The Vols have played well at home, beating Florida and losing to UK by 1.They will enjoy a nice advantage on the boards and are in the favorable situation here. This is the time of year where I think we will see bubble teams step it up at home.

3.5*Illinois-4
Revenge game for the Illini as they were hammered by 20 at Madison. This will be for first place in the Big 10 and Illinois has been playing much better as of late and are now 5-0 at home in league play.

3.5*Cincinatti-3
Like this with the Bearcats off a loss.Blazers have Gabe Kennedy inside, but he will not be able to keep up with all of Cincy's inside muscle.Finley is only shooting 38%-he does not get squared up all the time but lets it fly anyway. He will have hands in his face tomorrow.I will be sitting courtside at this game and will have to act like I am cheering for the Blazers.

3.5*Wisc-Mil-2
UWM had been stomping on opponents on the road until Saturday's misstep at Youngstown. They get back on track against a weak Butler squad.

2.5*Colorado-1.5
Just like laying the low number on a team that has lost only to Kansas at home in league play. The Buffs are trying to build their tournament resume and will get it done here.

2.5*Rhode Island-1
Because nobody can lose to UMass twice in a season.

Also have very strong leans on the following:
Alabama-2.5
Indiana-8
GW-5
Duke-3

I know it is all chalk-it just worked out that way.Good luck to all tonight.

dont forget though colordao lost to richmond (non league play though) and Utah...

also TTU beat utah

also Colorado only beat Kstate by 1 at Colorado

and for what its worth TTU beat KState by 11 @TTU

also though all 6 of TTus losses were on the road - 4 out of those 6 were teams with a rank of 20 or HIGHER (@Kansas, @ GeorgiaTech, @Texas, @Oklahoma State)

Also @ Oklahoma State TTU lost by only 4. When the two teams met in Texas TTU won by 21...

Just my two cents.

I think I've talked myself into playing this one.

YTD 111-81+50.1 plays rated 1-4 units

1.5*Alabama+11.5
MSU has been absolutely dominant at home in league play outside of the Kentucky game.Alabama's NCAA bid is on life support at the moment, but they do have enough scoring punch to hang within this number. The key will be surviving the first 5 minutes.

Note:I got 11.5 with my local.I do not know if it is available offshore.

3*Memphis-5.5(buy.5)
The Blazers are off their big win over Cincy.UAB is a decent team and they deserve a tournament berth. That said,Cincy was just plain awful the other night with 20 turnovers and no scoring from Bobbitt.Obviously, there is a letdown factor after the big win.Memphis has only SMiss on deck and with this game being for first place,I am taking the stronger team.
