3*Pacific+1
Been playing Utah State all year, but this looks like it will be it for their conference perfection.
3*Rice-8.5
Rice has been kicked on their road their last two games.I still feel they are the best team in the WAC.Enter Tulsa, who beat the Owls a few weeks back.Bad spot for the Golden Hurricanes.
2*Ohio-2
Akron 1-6 on the road in MAC play.
1*Alabama-7
Total homer play.
Only read below if you are really bored. It has nothing to do with picks.
My initial purpose in coming to the Rx was to gather information for a book I am writing about gambling and how it has affected(effected? I have never been able to get that right) my life. This book is not a big deal;it is simply for my own satisfaction.
Certain events I remember like they happened yesterday. In high school(18 years ago),3 of my friends were down a total of 42,000.(They were betting through another high school student who claimed he was putting the bets in elsewhere.Everyone was almost certain the bets were never placed, but the parents were afraid something would happen to the kids so they paid off the debts). One of the guys sold Cutco knives all summer and made 25,000 to pay back his parents. All of the community housewives felt sorry for him and bought knives. He was one of the top 5 salesmen in the country at the age of 18.My mother bought the knives and gave them to me.I still have them.
I also remember being a college student and getting in the hole for the first time-we doubled up on that Monday night game between Indy and Denver(1989 I think).A friend's last advice was "Denver's not very good on artificial turf."Sure they are not.We took Denver and I think they were down 42-7 in the first half.
I was also on the other side for a brief while I was in grad school working on my MBA.We took bets and got stiffed for about 8,000 and could not pay our customers. An interesting sidenote in this story was a guy named JP.He would take 3,4 or 5 basketball games and play them straight and in teasers, parlays, and turns. He,of course, lost his ass to us and he disappeared.Three years later,I was at my local's house in a different city.It was the time of night when he was taking calls. He had multiple calls and asked me to answer one.I answered-"This is JP.Give me.......It was the same guy.I took his bets(losers of course) and said nothing else.My local said JP usually paid by stealing from a BBQ restaurant where he worked. He eventually disappeared again after getting down a few thousand.
I am sharing (or torturing you with) these stories with you because my brief time at the Rx has also given me plenty to write about.(Some of you guys are pretty interesting to say the least).I am also at the juncture where gambling needs to take a lesser role in my life.I will be engaged within the next year and will move quickly towards parenthood after that.Even though I am winning this year,I am ashamed of the hold that gambling has on me.I detest the fact that I cannot focus on a dinner conversation because I am wondering if New Mexico is covering the spread.Or excusing myself to the restroom in a restaurant so I can check scores on my pager compliments of CRIS.or checking up on my thread to see if anyone has responded.Perhaps some of you have been there.
As it is Valentine's Day, I will try to honor a request by my girlfriend to cutback on my gambling. And as a result the behaviors mentioned above,I will no longer be posting on the Rx on a regular basis.I will not say never because I am sure I will drop by on occasion. In the meantime, you guys keep tearing it up and continue to make this forum the best around.
Old Man Ted your wisdom, kindness, sincerity, and selflessness are what the world needs more of-not just this forum.I appreciate your responses and would love to be able to email you if possible.
KojakYou are a good soul.May your days be long and fulfilling.
Handicappers too numerous to mention-You are the best group I have seen.Remember why you are here.
Best wishes to all,
