The Red Sox are 25-10 at home this season and 90-39 in their last 129 home games. They march Wakefield out to the hill tonight and that figures to a be a recipe for success when you consider that the Red Sox are 42-16 in his last 58 home starts and a perfect 7-0 in his home starts this season. In addition, the cross country trip to Bean Town has been brutal for the M's, who are just 5-17 in the last 22 meetings in Boston. While the M's put their ace on the hill tonight, I don't think they'll be able to provide enough run support to walk away with a win when you consider they are scoring just 3.8 runs per game against righty starters this season. Bet the Sox.

Seattle at Boston UNDER 8.5

Summary: Felix Hernandez has allowed two or fewer earned runs in each of his last seven starts, going 4-0 with a 0.85 ERA. Hernandez is 3-1 with a 3.05 ERA in six starts against the Red Sox, and he's been undaunted by the challenge of pitching at Fenway Park, tossing 15 shutout innings in winning his two starts there. Felix also owns a 1.72 ERA in 9 road starts this season.

Tim Wakefield had a 1.80 ERA in two starts against Seattle last season. The 42-year-old also went 4-0 with a 3.45 ERA in five June starts. And let's not forget about the Boston bullpen. Red Sox relievers are tied for the major league lead with a 3.18 ERA.

The Under is 13-3-3 in Boston's last 19 home games, and 6-1 in Boston's last 7 games with the total set at 7 to 8.5. The Under is 11-1 in the Mariners' last 12 road games with the total set at 7 to 8.5, and 13-3 in Hernandez's last 16 starts vs. AL East foes. The Under is also 5-1-1 in the last 7 meetings.

I'd say the UNDER is worth a shot here for a half-unit.

Oakland +114

Cannot go with the home team here, Cleveland is a train wreck right now. Oakland just took 2 out of 3 from Detroit (I lost one of those games by the way Wednesday). Impressed with Oaklands ability to play good teams tough and that inspires confidence on the road against weak sisters. Should pool that into a win tonight, Clevelands bats are silent and provide little run support for their starters. Clevelands Huff is a southpaw and the A's hit lefties well and Huff has a season ERA over 6. I do not think Celveland can trade enough runs on offense to win this, better team getting almost 20 cents on the moneyline. I continue to fade Clevealnd till they start getting some offense and they are off a pouding at the hands of the White Sox where they got swept big time.

PLAY on Oakland.

Friday's Winners ...

200♦ FLORIDA MARLINS RUN LINE - Volstad over Morton - Nice little three-game streak after a home sweep of the Nationals, and after taking travel-Thursday off, Florida is going to dismantle a Pittsburgh team that was in a marathon of a make-up game yesterday at home against the Mets.

New York appeared to be freefalling earlier this week, and most certainly didn’t need to play a write-in game at PNC Park after a three-game set in Milwaukee, where they were outscored 16-10 and lost two of three. Nevertheless, the makeup of a June 3 rainout undoubtedly took a lot out of the Pirates, who would have rather had their first day off since June 22.

Now they’ll bring a bit of a skid into this one, having lost four of five and nine of 14, and play their 11th straight game in as many days, and 17th in 18 days against a red-hot team that has not only won three in a row, but 12 of 18 since mid-June.

I’m sending Chris Volstad to the hill tonight, and though he had been struggling throughout June, he looked like an entirely different pitcher his last two starts. In Tampa Bay, on Saturday, against the defending American League champs he turned in a blue-collar six innings but ended up with a no-decision. The 22-year-old right-hander surrendered just two runs and scattered five hits while striking out five. And let’s not forget prior to that he won right here at home against the Yankees.

He’s a much better choice than Pittsburgh’s Charlie Morton, who has been battling a nagging left hamstring strain that has limited from making regular starts in the rotation. And because of that injury the Pirates are cautious to push him deep into games. And since he made three starts against the Marlins last year and allowed 10 earned runs over 15 innings, I think I certainly have the edge in this matchup.

Florida will be revved up for this weekend, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it sweeps the Bucs too and runs the winning streak to six. With a West Coast trip coming up next week, the Marlins are a team to watch the next three days, beginning with this blowout winner right here.

50♦ DETROIT TIGERS - LIST French only - This is as close to Major League pitching debut as it gets, so even though Lucas French was called up last Sunday and has worked out of the bullpen twice and tossed a minimal three innings, I’m going to roll with the southpaw at this big price tonight.

The 23-year-old lefty has produced some workmanlike innings for the Tigers’ farm system, as he’s given up just four earned runs on 16 hits over 23 innings, while striking out 26 in his last three starts. Going back even further, French has lasted a minimum of 6-2/3 innings with two earned runs or less in five of his last six starts. I’m taking a shot with this pup tonight, as I’ve built a nice little bankroll for the weekend and can afford to take a look at this kid at this price and with this rating.

Atlanta Braves at Washington Nationals

A season-high four-game winning streak and a sweep of the defendingWorld Champions has put the Atlanta Braves back in the thick of theNL East race. A visit to Washington could help them climb even higher. Some challenges could lie ahead for the Braves on their 10-gameroad trip, but they'll first open a three-game set on Friday nightagainst the lowly Nationals. The Braves have struggled with consistency - especially offensively- this season, but picked a good time to find a bit of a groove, totaling 21 runs and 37 hits in a three-game sweep of Philadelphiaearlier this week. They're still in fourth place in the East, but only two games inback of the struggling Phillies, who are in a virtual tie withFlorida. Atlanta (38-40) is one game behind the third-place NewYork Mets. "(We've got) a long way to go, but we're happy with our position,"Braves manager Bobby Cox said. The winning streak has come without injured leadoff hitter NateMcLouth (hamstring), but Martin Prado has helped pick up the slack. He went 7 for 12 with three doubles, a home run and six RBIsagainst the Phillies. Casey Kotchman and Garret Anderson each hit two-run home runs, andMatt Diaz notched his second straight three-hit game in Thursday's5-2 win to cap their first home sweep of the Phillies in more thanfour years. The Braves last won five in a row from May 18-22, 2008. With anNL-worst 5.21 team ERA, Washington could help Atlanta keep rolling. Cox's club will face the Chicago Cubs and Colorado later in thetrip, but the Nationals (22-54) have the worst record in the majorleagues. They return home after a 1-5 road trip, which closed withthree straight losses to Florida including 5-3 on Wednesday asWashington stranded 13 runners. "We had plenty of chances," manager Manny Acta said. "I think, right now, our situational hitting flat out stinks." Rookie Ross Detwiler (0-4, 5.24 ERA) is well aware of that. He hasreceived one run of support in five of his eight starts, includinglast Friday at Baltimore as he allowed five runs in five-plusinnings of an 11-1 defeat. The Nationals are 1-7 when he pitches. His mound opponent will be Kenshin Kawakami (4-6, 4.25). Theright-hander has not pitched since June 24, when he was forced toleave after three perfect innings when he was hit in the base ofthe neck by a line drive from the bat of New York Yankees pitcherJoba Chamberlain. "I'm fine," Kawakami told the Braves' official Web site through atranslator. "I'm alive. At first, I was worried that it might havehit a bone. I'm glad it didn't." The 34-year-old rookie has allowed three or fewer earned runs ineach of his last 10 starts. He's 3-3 with a 3.18 ERA over that span. Both of his starts against Washington came before that stretch. Hebeat the Nationals in his major league debut on April 11, but lostto them 10 days later after allowing four runs - two earned - overfive-plus innings at Nationals Park. Atlanta swept the Nationals at home from April 10-12, but the teammanaged six total runs while losing two of three in the nation'scapital April 20-22.

Chicago White Sox at Kansas City Royals

One could almost say that the Royals are being steamed as this betting line has moved steadily upward since the Get Go and this play can be had as high as +148 at some books as I peck out these thoughts. And why is that? Because Greinke "The Wonder Boy" is pitching. His games have seen this same kind of result over his last 8 to 10 pitched and perhaps with good reason, as he has been solid as can be. However, he has not been as sharp lately and the WhiteSox thrower is having his best stint of the year. Danks as allowed just 6 runs over his last 4 starts. He is in a VERY GOOD SITUATION tonight facing the Royals who have been lefty handicapped and are 2-9 verses them this year. KC is beginning to figure out that they are not a good team. They have won just once here at Kaufman the last 9 times they have played here. They have lost 11 of 15 regardless of where they have played. We all know how hot the Chicago Squad is, so I will not bore you with that and during this streak I have bet them more than once. I think that I will do it again! Chicago is hitting the ball. They are playing great defense. They are getting very good starting and reliever pitching. They are winning games. And....they are HUGE DOGS tonight. What up with that?

Arizona + over Colorado

The emergence of Max Scherzer as a frontline starter has been one of the lone positives for the Diamondbacks this season. Arizona had a disastrous season but Scherzer has won three of his last four starts and Arizona owns a winning record behind Scherzer, including wins in seven of the last ten games. Scherzer has allowed just seven earned runs in his last five starts and he owns an over 2.3:1 strikeout to walk ratio. Jorge De La Rosa owns a 7.97 ERA at home and Colorado 1-6 in his home starts. As poorly as Arizona has produced on offense the Diamondbacks actually own a stronger team batting average over the last ten games despite a 2-8 record. Arizona and Colorado have also featured very similar bullpen numbers on the season. The Rockies have been held to four runs or fewer in seven of the last eight games.

Tampa Bay Rays at Texas Rangers

Rays starter Scott Kazmir does have a perfect 7-0 TSR and a 2.09 ERA against the Rangers, but he has not had his best stuff this season. He has an ERA of 7.28 overall and an ERA of 11.37 in his last three starts. Tampa Bay has won just 11 of 33 tries after back-to-back road games. As a road favorite, they are just 7-15 and 6-23 on the road in July. Texas has won back-to-back home games over division rival Los Angeles scoring nine runs in each win. They should have no trouble continuing their offensive onslaught against a shaken Kazmir. Go with Texas

ARIZONA vs. COLORADO

The Colorado Rockies will need to get back on track at the plate, especially with Jorge De La Rosa starting at Coors Field. Colorado (41-37), the majors' hottest team with 17 wins in 18 games before struggling at the end of a 5-4 road trip, has scored a combined eight runs in its last four games. The Rockies wil be back at home where they have won 10 of 12 at Coors Field, and are averaging 6.0 runs while batting .321 with 11 homers during a five-game winning streak there. They will have to score runs tonight to win with De La Rosa (4-7, 5.64 ERA) on the mound as the left-hander is 1-5 with a 7.97 ERA in seven starts at Coors. Max Scherzer (5-5, 3.67) will take the mound for Arizona (31-48). The right-hander gave up eight runs, three earned and four hits in 4 1/3 innings as Arizona lost 12-8 to the Los Angeles Angels in his last start. Arizona has split the six meetings with Colorado in 2009. You can count on the Rockies getting back to form with the bats coming back home off a road trip and they will need at least 7 runs to win the game with Jose De La Rosa who has been their weakest link in the rotation.

Atlanta -130 at WASHINGTON

Tonight we must side with the surging Atlanta Braves who come to DC fresh off a 3-game sweep of the Phillies, and have now won their last 4.

Atlanta is also 4-2 in the season series against Washington, and starter Kenshin Kawakami has gone 1-0 over his last 3 starts, allowing just 4 runs in 14 innings of work.

Ross Detwiler will counter for the sliding Nationals whose latest losing streak is at 3 in a row, and 8 of their last 10 have ended in defeat.

Detwiler has yet to win this year at 0-4 with an ERA of 5.24. This will be his first start against the Braves, but with Atlanta starting to "feel it" in a division that no one has seized control of, we will side with the Braves to make it 5 straight wins.

You are probably saying "G-Man, how can you go OVER the posted total with both John Danks, and Zack Greinke in a groove right now?"

Well, before you get your panties in a bunch, consider that Danks' road ERA this season is 4.99, and 4 of Danks' 7 road starts this year have gon OVER the total.

As for Greinke, 5 of his 9 home starts have landed on the HIGH side.

I just get the feeling that the total on this game is a total normally reserved for National League games.

One big inning from either side this evening, and this game will be heading OVER the posted price.

SEATTLE MARINERS @ BOSTON RED SOX

It is hard to deny what Felix Hernandez has done over his last 53 innings of work, allowing just 5 earned runs, 38 hits, striking out 51, and pitching to a 0.85 ERA. He has also had success against the Red Sox where he is 3-1 with a 3.05 lifetime ERA. Tim Wakefield has had a good season, but still enters with a 4+ ERA, and the Sox pen has been struggling of late. The Red Sox have also lost 7 of the last 8 starts Wakefield has made vs the Mariners. Good spot for a live dog, and I'm on the Mariners here.

Seattle +110 at BOSTON

Friday night's FREE winner comes from Boston as I love the Mariners on the road in this one against the Red Sox.

The Mariners are on the last leg of a tough three-city trip that has had them in Los Angeles against the Dodgers and in New York against the Yankees. They are 3-3 on the trip and tonight we love their ace Felix Hernandez (8-3, 2.54 ERA) against the Red Sox.

The young hurler has allowed two runs or less in each of his last seven starts, going 4-0 in that stretch with a 0.85 ERA. Saturday in Los Angeles he gave up just one unearned run on four hits in eight innings of a 5-1 win, striking out nine in the process. And it's not like he's unfamiliar with the Red Sox, he's got a 3-1 career mark against Boston with a 3.05 ERA in six starts and he's tossed 15 shutout innings at Fenway in winning his last two starts in Beantown.

Seattle took two of three from Boston in mid-May in the Pacific Northwest but they didn't get a look at today's starter, veteran knuckleballer Tim Wakefield (10-3, 4.18). The guy gets wins thanks to his offense. When he gets knocked around, they usually get to him hard.

The Mariners are on runs of 9-4 on Fridays and 12-4 when Hernandez is a road 'dog. He's won 15 of the last 22 series openers he's pitched and he's 5-2 against the A.L. East.

I'm playing the Mariners in this one. I love the plus-money. I love the way Hernandez pitches and I'm cashing in with the young hurler in this one.

King Felix Hernandez has been super lately carrying a 0.74 ERA over his last three games on the diamond, while the Mariners have won three straight games that he has started. Still, must favor the Sox who have won 17 of 22 in Fenway versus Seattle. In addition, Boston is 51-19 against teams with a losing road record. Seattle shows at 15-36 as a road underdog. Good Luck.
