He should at least be told.

you put your neck on the line for a family member you'd probably at least like to know firsthand what you are considering and not hear after the fact, let alone when everyone else is hearing
not to mention, and no offense to Justincruise (okay well sort of offense to him), but how good can a company or role be when you slot into it as the #1 person in the country at that position when you have had no prior experience or related experience to speak of? i'm sure there's more behind that part of his story that would be interesting to hear but we won't hear much about the role given he wouldn't answer bigtendominator's questions about the role that he is now leaving, lol

I wasn't aware of that. I'd def let him in on this before hand. Might piss him off to find out 2nd hand. He deserves to know.

Did you guys not see my post from earlier? It was my cousin not uncle. And I called her first to let her know before anyone else.

And dsethi, I do have prior experience. Like I said I am a licensed investment advisor.

yea my question is how did you not see any of this in writing

did you just sign some contract that said 'here's your yearly salary, here's your vacation, here's the insurance offerings we provide, etc etc etc? or was this just under the table (as it is very much starting to sound like)

it was literally just a one page front and back contract stating my salary and vacation days. I unfortunately took them at their word on benefits and bonus structure. And don't get me wrong, the benefits and bonus aren't terrible. And if I didn't have this other offer I would have no grounds to leave. I was simply misled in some ways as to "how great" this position would be. but luckily it all worked out in the end.

A license does not =experience.
Certified does not=qualified

yea not lots of experience. But to become investment licensed (series 7 and series 66) you have to work for a broker dealer. So I have a couple years which isn't a lot, but it's more then none as dsethi put it.

For one thing I was flat out lied to about the benefit package. My manager also told me she would spend the first two weeks with me for hands on training. I saw her for one hour on my first day and haven't seen her since. This has made my first two weeks complete hell. I was also under the impression that this firm would be holding my investment licenses, only to find out after I started that they were going to let them expire because they decided they weren't a necessity in a management role. In the interview process they completely hid the fact that the territory for my sales people was in direct competition with the sales staff for another department, which basically would cut our results in half and make our numbers look bad to the big wigs (both departments selling the same things). I was told that it would be a 50 hour work week only to find out from other employees after I started that to hit our goals it is at least a 90 hour work week. Finally the bonus structure was nothing like they spoke of in the interviews (i should have asked to see it in writing before I started)

There are some other culture type things as well. But most of this stuff I could have gotten past. Company A was my first choice all along I just thought they had dropped me from the process when really they hadn't.

You certainly cannot stay at a job that makes you work 90hours a week.
If you worked 90 hours a week that would seriously cut into your thread posting at therx and we cannot have that.
I was already getting secretly pissed at your new company deep inside because I noticed that you were not posting as much the last 2 weeks.

Loyalty is long gone in the business world, people staying at a company for years and years is something of the past. I can tell you from personal experiance that you think you are doing the right thing by staying loyal until they want to get rid of you and that is all out the window. You have to do what is right for you!

lol, I feel like a broken record.

I have a couple years experience in financial services.
but that has nothing to do with being the number 1 person. That was by pure luck of being placed in that location. I am very grateful.

You could squeeze by on less, but if you want to hit all your goals and make your bonus you have to work that much.

And I'm telling you Chop that's not even the real reason I have been posting less it's just been damn boring on here the past few weeks lol

not confused, copied/pasted that from your other thread when you updated everyone about your new job, those are the quotes from your post where you said you had landed your dream job, it had great benefits and package etc etc etc

i just don't get how you could have been 'duped' and how you didn't think to tell your cousin who had worked at that company for 15 years and got you the job that you were thinking about leaving and also how that cousin didn't advise you on signing a contract that didn't include anything that you had told us about the job?

anyways gl on your new gig

I have said repeatedly in here how I called my cousin and told her first before anyone else.

This could be a case of making the best out of the reality of the situation.
Kind of like if someone deep down inside really wanted a BENZ but could not quite swing it.
So they buy a Nissan instead, and start justifying that they like the Nissan more then the Benz even though they know in reality they are just lying to themselves to make them feel better.

Actually chop, in that post that he quoted of me. The 2 companies I was referring two was company B and Company C (remember there was a third one that I turned down) because I thought Company A had dropped me. It wasn't until later that they came back out of the woodwork. And I really hope I haven't misled that company B is a bad job. It's a very good position, this other one is just better.

whew im exhausted

you also said you signed up for your dream job a month ago and then signed a contract that didn't include any of these amazing benefits you apparently thought were just going to be given to you because you were really cool. go check that weed thread yourself. I'd be pissed too if I thought I was signing up for a benefits package that I didn't receive. I'd also consider myself a fucking idiot if I didn't ask for anything in writing, and was 27 years old with some great prior experience like you said you are. maybe you can blame Obama for these problems too though? haha
like i said, GL, hope your cousin doesn't hate you for your decision, that is the person whose opinion you should value most

Problems? I just started a new job and I am leaving for a better offer. It is a difficult decision but I wouldn't classify it as problems. In fact I am loving life right about now.
