Get in the playoffs first, then start talking. It does look good in some ways for you, at least you don't have to go to Busch in September in a tie with the Padres.

I'm sure Wild Card will be sowed up to where rotation will be set up just fine. By the way, Starting Pitching is about the most important asset to have. I can't think of to many teams in recent history that have won without dominant pitching. Not to many teams have won primarily with offense. Pitching usually shuts down offenses in Postseason and that will be your downfall. Good Luck

If your starting pitching was half as good as Oakland's, then you might have a chance to bow out in the Divisional Series like they do every year.

In 2001 Randy Johnson was the first pitcher ever to go 5-0 in the Post season and Randy and Schilling were named co MVP's of the WS These two are aces imo

My point is that your only argument has been Wood goes 9, Prior goes 9, Cubs win. Your only hope is that those two can pitch 2 gems each. Oakland's staff is better, and it hasn't gotten them anywhere. It is a team sport. And the Cards are the better team.

Oakland doesn't have any impact players outside of their pitchers. Cubs now have a solid lineup, as good as any in the League. Its not just Prior and Wood either,Zambrano Clement, and Maddox are better then anything you have to throw. Cards fans can slam Zambrano all they want but he is still tough.Oaklands staff isn't better, Zito is average at best this year, Hudson has been hurting, Mulder is an Ace, thats it

This Cardinals team reminds me of the Seattle Mariner teams of the past few years. They both were built for the regular season. The Mariners would eventually fall in the playoffs.

This is the reason that DePodesta blew up the Dodgers. He knew they didn't have a chance with the team they had.

The Cubs scare me WAY more than the Cards.

Illini: Care to make a wager on any series that the Cardinals play (except against an NL East team) in the postseason?

IS-Cards will play the NL East Champ in the first round, so basically you want to bet that the Cards will lose the NLCS? I've got a nickel on the Cards winning the WS at 8-1 that I will not be hedging. I might possibly add on and bet the NLCS. How much you looking to wager?

Red Eye- My guess would be Carpenter in game 1, Marquis in game 2. But they might be flip-flopped, we'll have to see.

Cards are a profit for me I picked up a 40/1 WS and a 16/1 pennant when they got off to a slow start

you should sell those to me Red Eye, since their "worthless" to you and will not cash. I'll give you money for nothing.

No doubt. Saying Randy Johnson is not an ace is like saying OJ is innocent.

everyone seems to think the cubs are the favorites because of the starting pitching. let me ask one question:

why didn't they win last year? they had the same starters (except for maddux). prior and wood were much more dominating last year than they are now. yet, they were beaten by the marlins...why?

Blue,
Tired arms last year and let's not forget about the addition of Nomar, a lifetime .327 hitter

True,Arms were tired,Wood was gassed by 5th inning in last start versus marlins and Prior almost same thing in his start. To many innings logged, that won't be problem this year. They should have gone to Clement when Wood went out.He sat out the series to my recollection. I didn't say Johnson wasn't an ace just that he wasn't one for the Postseason, or for the most part hasn't pitched like one for MOST of his postseason with Seattle and Houston.

let me throw this out there:

maybe, just maybe, the marlins were better than the cubs last year.

now this year, the addition of maddux and nomar help but, i would submit that prior is not the same pitcher as he was last year. and, kerry wood is very erratic. one start, he is randy johnson...the next start, he stinks.

also, check maddux's postseason pitching record...i don't think its too good.
