truth be told, you can probably get out of this without the family knowing, simply man up, and explain the situation to the books... do the best you can in terms of payments, and they will understand.
they do not want HEAT, and they DO want their money. If they hurt you they fail to acheive either of those goals.

that is the best way, tell them also about the 490$ that you have of course, and offer to meet them in a public place for the payment.

As I said I understand your point and opinion. Believe me I'm not just giving this kid the money. He needs to get things set up and get the ball rolling. I'll be glad to help as long as he informs his parents and sets up a plan. If his parents aren't willing to help with payments but he tells them then that's one step. Get going in GA and the ball will start rolling.
Listen I know your theory on starving children and I agree. I donate to a lot of charities. I hope everything works out and if he takes my advice it will. I told him to take everyone else's advice as well so we'll see where it goes.
