SEC, frauds? 1-1, with the loss coming to the #1 seed. obviously, YOU will be revealed as a fraud with an extreme west coast bias. I guess you never learned not to bet with your heart. save you money, winkyduck.

Mr. Winky,

SEC frauds? Name another conference in the CWS that has more teams than the SEC ...

Hey Winky,

I came on today just to read your write-ups on the CWS. They are so informative and entertaining. You had a great record here last year. Anyway, I agree with most of what you say, but just for the fun of it, I am going against you today in game 1, going with the Cocks of SC to vanquish your Fullerton team. Catcher Landon Powell will be instrumental in helping slow down the "small-ball" game of the Titans, and I see pitcher Matt Campbell matching up well against Fullerton's ace -- who undoubtedly is very good as you say. However, SC can hit the ball, and have seen some premium pitchers this year. You mentioned the SEC teams are here after beating some mediocre teams, but I don't see beating Pepperdine and Tulane as anything to crow about either. Anyway, your write-ups are superb and you know I have all the respect in the world for you. However, just for the fun of it, I'm squaring off against you for just one afternoon. May the best team win!

Wink - Nice call...Hate to see young pitdhers throw that many picthes. Have seen some good arms ruined. The Fullerton guys arn sure not ruined. Great game and if catcher calling the game he gets a ton of credit.

Looks like a good tournamemnt;.

***2004 CWS GOY ALERT!***

first a word about the fullerton/so carolina game. as we all know here - one of the HUGE advantages we have is the regionalization of the posters here. i think we all know by now i live in orange county, ca - near disneyland and am a fullerton alum. being a fullerton alum (and one of the few who attends the school's sporting events) i get to see the team up close and in person and know them better than any bookmaker ever will. i am NOT alone here in this regard - for those who live in, say, ames, iowa, know iowa state better than the bookmakers do - and so on. i make no bones about the fact that i spend very little time focusing on conferences outside the west coast - because - to me - it is much easier to get info and follow teams closer to me than 3,000 miles away. i couldn't tell you anything about niagara and iona - so why bother trying to handicap one of their games?

because i am a fullerton alum - and go to the baseball games - i have seen this team play about 12 times this season IN PERSON! because of this - i got to see Jason Windsor pitch at least 6 times in person and knew what he did saturday was something he would do. i also know what to expect from our starter monday against the miami crimicanes. i have a pretty good feeling the books will be just as off in our monday game as they were on saturday.

before the CWS started i really tried to drive home the point i felt the SEC was nothing but a fraud conference that would be exposed in omaha as such.

based on what i have seen the first 4 games - not only do i feel vindicated - but even more right. sorry "friday" and "chalk" - but the SEC played nobody in the non-conf sked and built up a nice record and then beat each other up - so people think they are good. the reality of it all is former "LS-who" coach Skip Bertman is on the selection committee and (sadly) has a strangehold on the committee - and as a result - he gets more SEC teams in than they earn - and he sets them up in sweet spots so they can have a better chance of making Omaha - not knowing once they do - they will be exposed as frauds. the SEC was a decent conference this season. they did NOT earn 9 bids and only got 4 to omaha because they had 3 schools at home. as long as bertman does this - i will be there to bet against the SEC EVERY chance i get!

in the 2 games sunday i fully expect the SEC to add to their "stellar" record so far and make it 1-5 in omaha.

i am NOT going to take arizona in G1 against arkansas because i have arkansas +200 to be the 1st team eliminated from that bracket - so in a sense i have arizona +200 in this game instead of the posted line of +115. i see no reason to hedge this bet.

in G2 - we get the BEST team in omaha against a team that won because arizona played like little leaguers and threw the ball all over the place. simply put - texas will do to georgia what they did to arkansas - KILL THEM! the line for this game is texass -150/georgia +130.

i have no clue how the books can make texass this small a fave and i sense by the time the game goes off texass will be closer to -175 than -150. if you can find a book with texass on the run line - JUMP AT IT - for i'd be shocked if texass doesn't win this one by
at least 5 runs and if it is 10 or more - it won't shock me.

i was thiiiiiiiiiiiis close to making fulleton +115 over the cocks saturday my CWS GOY - but i didn't. while that was a winner - texass over UGA will be an even easier one.

***Texass -150 is my CWS GOY*** (and as such is a TWO UNIT play)

i really don't see how this game will be close - and i don't think it will! we have a college team playing a JV high school team - and the results should be pretty predictable.

Good luck Winky. I'm riding this one with you for a nickle. Got it at 145 so I might chicken out and scalp some if it changes as much as you think it might. Great write up. These posts are the reason I like reading this forum.

good luck

Winky:

Thanks for sharing your knowledge with the forum. I have followed you so far with Texas, CS Fullerton, and Miami. As you had said earlier in this thread that you felt Texas would go 3-0 in their bracket, I assumed you would be on Texas today, so I took the horns early yesterday at an incredible price of -140 at WSEX. Currently now -165. Still have the pending future on the Titans.

Very much appreciate your honesty and focus due to your local knowledge. The more you know firsthand, the better chance for success. Continued best wishes to you for a profitable series. Always like seeing a fellow poster reap rewards having shared his insight with others for their benefit as well. Unselfishness is appreciated and respected from this oldman.

6/20: (2004 CWS GOY) Texass -150 (2 unit play): Winner

thank you Texass for what was as easy a winner as i thought it would be sunday against the SEC - a conference i felt was a fraud and overrated before Omaha began and even though "friday" and "chalk" felt otherwise - i think the results speak for themselves. after monday, the SEC will be 2-6 with 1 of those wins an SEC battle and the other one being a win over what was thought to be the worst team in Omaha, Arizona, a game the Cats win if they don't toss the ball all over Rosenblatt.

getting back to the sunday texass game, that line opened texass -140 but closed @ -220, an almost unheard of 80-cent move. i have NEVER seen that and my guess is this has to be one of the all-time biggest moves ever on a game - if not the biggest. sadly - i sense the books have realized their mistake and wednesday i expect texass to OPEN at least -200 over AZ/GA if not higher (i expect an opening line of about -225 to -250).

monday beings about a dilemma. i have "LS-who" +190 to be the first team sent home from this bracket, meaning in a sense i have South Carolina +190 to win this game instead of the current line of -130 so i can pass on this game and still have a play on it.

Well, i am NOT passing on this game. the Cocks are a better team than LS-who - plain and simple. SC played better saturday than "LS-who" and along with the entire nation saw what those of us at Fullerton have known all season - Jason Windsor is the hottest pitcher in college right now - BAR NONE! monday the Cocks aren't facing Windsor, but instead some loser from "LS-who" a team that really isn't that good.

USC is a much better team than "LS-who" and will show it monday. i sense this one won't be close, either, and USC will win with ease.

so, monday, i will be on:

South Carolina -130

***now - i know there is another game - Miami and my Titans. right now i am NOT going to play this game because i want to bet against BOTH pitchers - not on them. i will spend more time looking at this game and if i have a play on it - i will post it by 1P (PDT).

Winky:

Congratulations on another very solid selection on Texas yesterday. Truly believe that your write-up was very influential in that 80 cent line movement yesterday, as you were mentioned on other sites as being very strong on the play. Take pride as you are surely respected by many, not only here but elsewhere.

Line is currently moving on South Carolina but -130 is still available for those still shopping. Continued best wishes to you throughout the CWS.
