COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) Cam Atkinson, Nick Foligno, Scott Hartnell and Josh Anderson each scored two goals and the Columbus Blue Jackets beat Montreal 10-0 on Friday night, matching the biggest loss in the Canadiens' storied history and breaking the Blue Jackets' record.

Montreal lost by 10 goals for the fifth time and the first since an 11-1 loss to Detroit in February 1995. The Canadiens dropped to 9-1-1 with their first regulation loss of the season.

Sergei Bobrovsky made 30 saves, and Seth Jones and David Savard added goals to help the Blue Jackets improve to 5-3-1. Columbus' previous record offensive output in a game was eight goals.

After surrendering 13 goals in 10 games before Friday, Montreal gave up eight to Columbus in the first two periods, half of them on power plays. Sixteen Columbus players picked up at least one point.

BOSTON (AP) Derek Stepan and Kevin Hayes each scored short-handed goals, Antti Raanta made 35 saves and the surging New York Rangers beat the Boston Bruins 5-2 on Saturday night.

Pavel Buchnevich added a power-play goal, Stepan had two assists, and Michael Grabner and Nick Holden also scored for New York, which won its fourth straight game and seventh in the last eight.

David Pastrnak and Patrice Bergeron scored for the Bruins, who had won their last three games. Tuukka Rask made 19 saves, but lost for the first time after winning his first six starts.

New York took a 2-1 lead on Stepan's goal late in the first period as he broke in alone after taking a pass from Grabner. Rask poked the puck off his stick, but it caromed off both of the winger's skates and slid into the net.

Hayes scored on the end of a 3-on-1 break at 2:18 of the second to make it 3-1.

PENGUINS 5, SHARKS 0

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - Sidney Crosby scored twice, Matthew Murray stopped 32 shots for his second career shutout, and Pittsburgh continued its dominance of San Jose.

Chris Kunitz, Eric Fehr and Nick Bonino also scored for the Penguins, who are 5-0-1 in their last six and have points in 10 of 12 games. Murray got his second win of the season.

The Penguins, who beat San Jose in six games in the Stanley Cup Final last June and won at home on Oct. 20, didn't give the Sharks much of a chance, scoring less than 4 1/2 minutes in.

San Jose goalie Martin Jones allowed three goals on seven shots before being replaced by Aaron Dell 13 seconds into the second period. Dell finished with 16 saves as the Sharks lost their third straight.

LIGHTNING 4, DEVILS 1

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - Victor Hedman and Nikita Kucherov both had a goal and an assist, Brayden Point scored his first NHL goal and the Lightning beat the Devils.

Brian Boyle also scored for Tampa Bay, and Ben Bishop made 37 saves.

New Jersey got a goal from Damon Severson. Cory Schneider stopped 31 shots

Hedman put Tampa Bay up 2-1 with 11:33 left in the second from the blue line.

Shortly before Hedman's goal, Severson hit the post and Kucherov had his backhander go off the cross bar and then get swept off the goal line by Schneider's stick.

Point, in his 12th NHL games, made it 3-1 at 5:01 of the third when he redirected Kucherov's shot during a power play.

BLUES 2, BLUE JACKETS 1, OT

ST. LOUIS (AP) - Jay Bouwmeester tied it in early the third period and Vladimir Tarasenko scored the winner late in overtime to lift the Blues to a victory over the Blue Jackets.

Carter Hutton stopped 20 shots for his second win of the season, helping the Blues improve to 4-1-1 at home this season and have give them five wins in the last six meetings with the Blue Jackets at Scottrade Center.

Josh Anderson scored for Columbus, who was coming off a 10-0 win against Montreal the previous night and snapped a three-game winning streak. Curtis McElhinney finished with 28 saves.

Bouwmeester ripped a shot past McElhinney from the left dot at 2:16 of the third with his first goal since Feb. 22, 2016, against San Jose.

Tarasenko's wrister with 43 seconds on the clock in overtime broke his seven-game goal-scoring drought.

AVALANCHE 1, WILD 0

DENVER (AP) - Gabriel Landeskog scored with 9:37 remaining, Calvin Pickard stopped 32 shots for his second NHL shutout and the Avalanche beat the Wild.

Landeskog's goal ended a Colorado scoring drought that lasted more than 164 minutes. He found the net on a pass from Matt Duchene and then hopped into the arms of Nathan MacKinnon in excitement.

Earlier in the third period, Landeskog got into a brief scuffle with Devan Dubnyk after agitating the Minnesota goalie in front of the net.

Pickard stepped in for a struggling Semyon Varlamov and kept the Wild offense in check.

CANADIENS 5, FLYERS 4

MONTREAL (AP) - Tomas Plekanec scored a short-handed goal in the third period to lift the Canadiens to a win over the Flyers.

Andrei Markov, Greg Pateryn, Alex Galchenyuk and Phillip Danault also scored for Montreal (10-1-1) while Carey Price stopped 34-of-38 shots.

Chris VandeVelde, Shayne Gostisbehere, Claude Giroux and Travis Konecny scored for Philadelphia (6-6-1), which saw its three-game winning streak snapped. Michal Neuvirth made 12 saves in defeat.

Plekanec scored the eventual winner at 10:57 while the Habs were playing down a man. Streaking down the wing, Plekanec beat Neuvirth for his first goal of the season.

OILERS 4, ISLANDERS 3, SO

NEW YORK (AP) - Mark Letestu scored the only goal in the shootout to lift the Oilers to a victory over the Islanders.

Letestu beat Islanders goalie Jaroslav Halak to the glove side to snap the Oilers' three-game skid (0-2-1) after starting the season with seven wins in eight games.

Patrick Maroon, Leon Draisaitl, and Milan Lucic scored in regulation for the Oilers, and Cam Talbot made 30 saves as Edomonton beat the Islanders on the road for the first time since December 1999.

Nick Leddy, Shane Prince and Casey Cizikas scored for New York, and Halak finished with 20 saves. The Islanders have lost three straight, including the last two in shootouts.

Halak denied Jordan Eberle point-blank early in overtime before Talbot made a similar sprawling save at the other end.

SABRES 2, SENATORS 1

OTTAWA, Ontario (AP) - Kyle Okposo and Sam Reinhart scored in the third period in the Sabres' comeback victory over the Senators.

Robin Lehner made 32 saves for his first win against his former team.

Okposo tied it early in the period, tipping a point shot from Jake McCabe past Craig Anderson.

The Sabres took their first lead when Reinhart took advantage of a turnover at the side of the Ottawa goal. Anderson stopped the first shot, but Reinhart was able to jam a loose puck in between the skate of Anderson and the post at 8:22.

The Senators had an opportunity to tie it with a four-minute power play after Dmitry Kulikov got a high stick into the face of Bobby Ryan, but were unable to produce.

Mike Hoffman scored for Ottawa, and Anderson made 30 saves.

CAPITALS 4, PANTHERS 2

WASHINGTON (AP) - T.J. Oshie scored twice, including the game-winner during a third-period flurry, as the Capitals beat the Panthers for their fifth consecutive victory.

Oshie, Alex Ovechkin and Lars Eller scored three goals on five shots in less than five minutes as the Capitals finally cracked Roberto Luongo. Florida's goaltender had flummoxed Washington for much of the game and finished with 32 saves.

Jared McCann and Reilly Smith scored for Florida, which was opportunistic despite being outshot 36-24. McCann's goal was his first with the Panthers after an offseason trade from Vancouver.

Capitals starter Braden Holtby made 22 saves for his sixth win of the season.

MAPLE LEAFS 6, CANUCKS 3

TORONTO (AP) - Tyler Bozak scored twice and had an assist to lead the Maple Leafs to a victory over Vancouver, handing the Canucks their eighth straight loss.

Nazem Kadri, Mitch Marner, Nikita Soshnikov and Jake Gardiner also scored as the Leafs won their third straight. Frederik Andersen stopped 23 of 26 shots before being replaced by Jhonas Enroth, who had three saves in his 5:08.

Derek Dorsett, Henrik Sedin and Daniel Sedin scored for the Canucks, and Ryan Miller finished with 36 saves. Vancouver is 0-7-1 while getting shut out four times since beating Buffalo on Oct. 20.

HURRICANES 3, PREDATORS 2, SO

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Jaccob Slavin scored the only goal of the shootout to lead the Hurricanes to a victory over the Predators.

Jeff Skinner and Ron Hainsey scored in regulation for Carolina, which ended a two-game losing streak. Cam Ward finished with 25 saves through overtime and denied all three Nashville attempts in the shootout.

James Neal and Matt Irwin had the goals for the Predators, losers of two consecutive games - both in shootouts. Pekka Rinne stopped 23 shots.

BLACKHAWKS 3, STARS 2

DALLAS (AP) - Patrick Kane scored the go-ahead goal and assisted on another, and the Blackhawks beat the Stars.

Chicago erased a 2-1 deficit with second-period goals by Ryan Hartman at 2:59 and Kane on the power play at 7:40 against Stars goalie Antti Niemi.

With Blackhawks to the left of the net occupying Niemi, Kane skated in from the right and put in a pass from Artem Anisimov.

The Blackhawks scored 11 seconds into the game when Richard Panik scored his seventh goal by wristing in the rebound of a shot by Kane. Dallas took a 2-1 lead into the second period after goals by Brett Ritchie at 7:21 of the first and Curtis McKenzie at 9:49.

KINGS 5, FLAMES 0

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Devin Setoguchi scored twice and goalie Peter Budaj stopped 24 shots for his first shutout in three years as Los Angeles beat Calgary.

Jeff Carter, Kyle Clifford and Trevor Lewis also scored for the Kings, who got their first regulation win this season. Budaj's shutout was his first since Oct. 28, 2013.

Calgary goalie Brian Elliott had 34 saves.

Setoguchi registered his first two-goal game since Jan. 31, 2014. He scored with 14 seconds left in the first period when he caught a rebound on the doorstep and swept it past a diving Elliott to make it 2-0. His second came with 3:51 left in the second when he jammed a loose puck under Elliott's pad to push the lead to 4-0.

Sunday’s six-pack

Six most popular picks in Week 9 of the Westgate Super Contest in Las Vegas:

1) Denver Broncos, even (695)

2) Pittsburgh Steelers, even (605)

3) New Orleans Saints, -3.5 (575)

4) Carolina Panthers, -3 (525)

5) Philadelphia Eagles, +2.5 (474)

6) Chiefs -7/Titans +5 (472)

Sunday’s List of 13: Wrapping up a college football Saturday

13) Alabama 10, LSU 0— Old-time football. Can’t blame Les Miles for this one. Two QBs were badly overmatched by speedy defenses in this game. This was first time in nine years (Florida State, ’07) that Crimson Tide didn’t score in first half.

Since Nick Saban has been at Alabama (2007) every other SEC team has changed coaches. I’m totally baffled as to what LSU will do for a head coach.

12) Florida State 24, NC State 20— Gutty road win for the Seminoles, making Tuesday night’s Showtime episode another good one. I have a feeling FSU is going to win their bowl game by a lot- it’ll be a lesser bowl and they’ll be lot healthier, especially on defense. NC State had 31 first downs in this game, but lost.

11) Wisconsin 21, Northwestern 7— Evanston is a suburb of Chicago; no way was this a normal week in the Windy City, with the Cubs winning the World Series late Wednesday night, then the parade with five million people Friday afternoon. Did the World Series mess up Northwestern’s prep for this game, or is it a simple case of the better team winning?

10) Mississippi State 35, Texas A&M 28— People get all bent out of shape about the rankings for the playoffs, but these things tend to play themselves out in November. Now Aggies are out of the top 4 so people can stop complaining about A&M and start complaining again Tuesday night, when they’re replaced in the top 4 by someone else.

9) Minnesota 44, Purdue 31— Coaching 101— Gophers led 37-31 with under 2:00 left, score TD with 1:30 left to go up 43-31. It didn’t matter in this game, but you have to to go for 2 points in this spot. Being up 43-31 is the same as 44-31, but 45-31 means if you do give up two TDs, you still get OT to win the game. Minnesota kicked the PAT, which was a mistake.

8) Upset of the Day: Tex-San Antonio 45, Middle Tennessee 25— Roadrunners were a 20-point underdog- they ran ball for 270 yards and only need one more win to become bowl eligible.

Upset of the Day, #2— Charlotte 38, Southern Miss 27— 49ers were a 19.5-point underdog and got a big win for their young program.

7) Illinois 31, Michigan State 27— Spartans were 36-5 the last three years; they’re 2-7 this year and now have lost seven games in a row.

6) Navy 28, Notre Dame 27— Fighting Irish are now 3-6 as they head to San Antonio to play Army next week; they still have to play Virginia Tech and USC. If I was a college football coach, I’d never schedule Navy- they’re too good and no one is impressed if you beat them.

5) TCU 62, Baylor 22— Two straight losses for the Bears; TCU ran 90 plays for 688 yards in an easy win (was 38-14 at the half). Curious to see how the coaching situation at Baylor plays out; doubtful Kendall Briles can stay there, with his dad having been fired. Could be wholesale changes, but they have lot of talented kids who could transfer out, so tough decisions need to be made. they need to keep as many of those players as possible.

4) South Carolina 31, Missouri 21— Gamecocks coach Will Muschamp put mousetraps all over the Carolina football facility this week, to remind players/coaches “not to take the cheese” and think the Gamecocks were bigger than life.

The ploy worked, Carolina won and is now 5-4- they need one more win to go bowling.

3) Oklahoma State 43, Kansas State 37— This was a fun game to watch; OSU ran 64 plays for 637 yards- only six of those 64 plays came on third down, thats how well they moved the ball, passing for 457 yards. K-State had the ball inside the 5-yard line in the last 0:30, before time ran out on them.

2) Georgia 27, Kentucky 24— SEC title game is going to be awful, Alabama favored by 20+ over Tennessee or Florida or some other mediocre team from the SEC East. Kentucky would have been atop East had they won this game. Dawgs kicked FG at the gun for the road win.

1— This is where I advise you to be careful taking big point spreads against teams who are trying to impress pollsters. Coaches won’t think twice about hanging huge scores up so they don’t get bypassed in this playoff system they have now. Consider yourself warned.

CHICAGO (AP) Marian Hossa scored at 4:31 of overtime, and the Chicago Blackhawks beat the Dallas Stars 4-3 on Sunday night for their sixth consecutive victory.

Jonathan Toews had a goal and two assists and NHL MVP Patrick Kane scored for the third time in four games, helping the Blackhawks sweep the home-and-home set with the Stars. Kane had a goal and an assist in Saturday night's 3-2 victory in Dallas.

The Stars had a power-play opportunity in overtime, but Scott Darling made a great kick save on Patrick Eaves to help kill it. Hossa then drove one by Kari Lehtonen for his sixth of the season.

Darling, subbing for red-hot starter Corey Crawford, made 32 stops as the Blackhawks improved to 7-1-1 at home. Artem Anisimov also scored for Chicago.

Gemel Smith scored his first two NHL goals for Dallas, and Tyler Seguin also scored in the opener of a five-game road trip.

Lehtonen finished with 29 stops.

OILERS 2, RED WINGS 1

DETROIT (AP) - Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored a go-ahead goal late in the second period on an assist from Connor McDavid, giving Edmonton a win over Detroit.

Edmonton's Jonas Gustavsson made 22 saves and Tyler Pitlick scored a tying goal for the Oilers late in the first period.

The Pacific Division-leading Oilers have won two straight, playing their first set of back-to-back games this season, after losing three in a row.

Justin Abdelkader put the Red Wings up 1-0 midway through the first period on a power play, and Jimmy Howard made 26 saves.

Detroit has lost five straight after winning six consecutive games.

RANGERS 5, JETS 2

NEW YORK (AP) - J.T. Miller, Jesper Fast and Pavel Buchnevich scored 4:04 apart late in the second period to lead New York over Winnipeg for its fifth straight victory.

Kevin Hayes and Mats Zuccarello also scored, Kevin Klein and Brandon Pirri had two assists and Henrik Lundqvist stopped 24 shots as New York won for the eighth time in nine games. The Rangers, who lead the NHL with 55 goals and 4.23 per game, have scored at least five in each game of their winning streak.

Patrik Laine and Mark Scheifele scored for Winnipeg, which has lost four of its last five (1-3-1). Connor Hellebuyck started and gave up four goals on 16 shots before he was replaced late in the second period by Michael Hutchinson, who finished with one save.

BLUES 5, AVALANCHE 1

ST. LOUIS (AP) - Robby Fabbri and Jori Lehtera each scored in the first 3:35 and St. Louis beat Colorado.

St. Louis entered with 26 goals in 12 games this season and hadn't scored more than two goals in any of its past six games.

The Blues have won 10 of their last 12 games against Colorado dating to April 2011. Jake Allen stopped 22 shots for St. Louis.

Matt Duchene got his sixth goal for Colorado. Semyon Varlamov stopped 20 of 25 shots, and Calvin Pickard had three saves in the third period for the Avs.

DEVILS 4, HURRICANES 1

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Michael Cammalleri got his first three goals of the season, lifting New Jersey over Carolina for its first road victory.

Cammalleri scored twice in the second period and again midway through the third for his sixth career hat trick. Captain Andy Greene scored into an empty net for New Jersey.

The Devils improve to 1-3-2 away from home. Keith Kinkaid got his first win of the season behind 33 saves.

Carolina's Andrej Nestrasil scored with 6:59 left in the third period. Eddie Lack stopped 17 shots in his first home start.

DUCKS 4, FLAMES 1

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) - Ryan Kesler scored two power-play goals, Jonathan Bernier had 25 saves and Anaheim beat Calgary.

Anaheim has 24 consecutive victories at home against Calgary, breaking the Philadelphia Flyers' mark of 23 straight against the Pittsburgh Penguins from Feb. 1980 through Jan. 1987.

Andrew Cogliano and Clayton Stoner also scored for the Ducks.

Alex Chiasson had a goal for the Flames, who have not won at Honda Center since Jan. 19, 2004. Chad Johnson made 17 saves.

Monday’s six-pack

Six most popular picks in Week 9 of the Westgate Super Contest in Las Vegas:

1) Denver Broncos, even (695)- L

2) Pittsburgh Steelers, even (605)- L

3) New Orleans Saints, -3.5 (575)- W

4) Carolina Panthers, -3 (525)- T

5) Philadelphia Eagles, +2.5 (474)- L

6) Chiefs -7- L/Titans +5 (472)- L

Season record: 18-35-2- rough year for popular opinions

Monday’s List of 13: Wrapping up an NFL Sunday

Falcons 43, Buccaneers 28— Tampa Bay is now 17-43 in its last 60 home games; they fired Lovie Smith because they didn’t want QB guru Dirk Koetter to leave, but Winston isn’t playing as well now. This was halfway point of season and Tampa hasn’t won a home game. Atlanta is in good shape at 6-3- they haven’t had their bye yet, either. Over is 8-1 in Falcon games.

Chiefs 19, Jaguars 14— Kansas City had 16-yard edge in field position; they started four drives in Jax territory, kicking three FGs, scoring only one TD, and that was on a 23-yard drive, so if you gave the points, thats why you lost. With 8:23 left and KC up 19-7, Jaguars fumbled on 6-inch line as runner was crossing goal line; they scored on their next drive, but fell just short of pulling the upset. Under is 6-1 in Chiefs’ last seven games.

Lions 22, Vikings 16 OT— Three weeks ago, Vikings were 5-0 and on an 18-2 run against the spread, which rarely happens. Now they’re 5-3, their OC quit and both their OT’s are hurt. In this game, Minnesota scored with 0:23 left in regulation to take lead, then Stafford got Lions into position for game-tying 58-yard FG at gun. Vikings’ PK Blair Walsh missed a PAT and had FG blocked- he might not be employed much longer. Every Detroit game has been decided by 7 or less points. Success in the NFL is extremely fragile.

Giants 28, Eagles 23— Wentz threw picks on first two possessions, Giants grabbed 14-0 lead 5:07 into game; in second quarter, after a Philly FG, Pederson passed up FG tries of 40, 23 yards to try and get a first down, failing both times- they also had a FG blocked, then came up empty in the red zone on their last drive. You get ball in red zone six times and score only 20 points, you deserve to lose. If Eagles kick those 2nd quarter FGs, this might’ve been a different ending.

Cowboys 35, Browns 10— Not much to say here; a complete ass-kicking. During Rams’ game, FOX’s Kevin Burkhardt said “Right now, Dallas is best team in the NFC.” His partner John Lynch responded very quickly/skeptically, “Thats what the records say.” Cleveland is horrible.

Credit to Jason Garrett for this: Cowboys are 7-1 vs spread in last eight games as a road favorite- they win games they’re expected to win.

Dolphins 27, Jets 23— Jets scored in last 6:00 to take lead, but Miami ran kick back 96 yards for game-winning TD. This was Miami’s 4th straight home game, with a bye in between; their next two games are in southern California. Greg Gumbel/Trent Green had this game; they are a better crew than Nantz/Simms, and not because of Nantz.

Ravens 21, Steelers 14— This was Baltimore’s first win since September 25 and they’re in first place in AFC North, which is terrible this year. Ravens scored one offensive TD, a 95-yard pass in first quarter- their other TD was on a blocked punt. Bengals are 3-4-1, only half-game out of first place. Roethlisberger was obviously rusty as he returned too soon from his injury. Ravens are 12-3 off their last 15 bye weeks.

Saints 41, 49ers 23— In their last three games, Saints have run 62 more plays than their opponents. NO is now 4-4 after an 0-3 start. Chip Kelly should take Phil Knight’s $10M and go back to Oregon; 49ers are horrendous. Six of last seven SF games went over the total. Niners were outscored 91-23 in second half of their last five games.

Panthers 13, Rams 10— I could go on for a while about the Rams, but right now, I only want to know one thing; has Jeff Fisher’s contract been extended past this year? No one knows.

If it has been, then what he’s doing with Jared Goff is the proper course of action, let the kid learn on the sidelines and they’ll grow together.

If Fisher’s contract hasn’t been extended, then this is unacceptable, holding the franchise hostage so he can get a new deal, because this Case Keenum-led offense is putrid. Fisher makes $7M a year and right now, his team isn’t good. He really doesn’t deserve the extension.

The last 22 times the Rams have had the ball, their offense has outscored the other team’s defense, 10-7. How much bleeping worse could Goff be?

Colts 31, Packers 26— Misleading score; Indy kicked their butts in this game, running opening kick back for a TD, then running another kick back 61 yards later in first half. Over is 7-2 in Colt games this year. If you had Aaron Rodgers at QB, wouldn’t you get him a couple of really fast WRs? Green Bay scored 58 points in its last two games and lost both of them- they’re not athletic enough.

I’m mad because the Rams are 3-5; hell, the Packers have Rodgers and they’re 4-4.

Chargers 43, Titans 35— Ken Whishenhunt almost hung half a hundred on the team that fired him as HC last year, though they did score two defensive TDs. There is a proposition on the ballot in San Diego Tuesday to raise the hotel tax to pay for a new stadium for the Chargers; it needs 66.7% to pass, but if it gets over 50%, then the stadium is in limbo. Over is 7-2 in Charger games, 6-0 in last six Titan tilts.

Raiders 30, Broncos 20— Oakland ran ball for 218 yards, had 18-yard edge in field position; before this game, most rushing yards Denver had allowed was 157. In their first eight games, Denver’s defense scored three TDs, created field position for 10 TDs where scoring drive was less than 60 yards. Broncos’ average starting position here was their own 19-yard line, worst in NFL this week. Oakland is 7-2 and atop AFC West, with second-best record in AFC.

In baseball news, Colorado Rockies will name Bud Black their new manager Monday morning. Interesting that a former manager willl manage the Rockies, given the problems pitches have had pitching in high altitude.
