Preview: Wolfpack (13-12) at Cavaliers (20-5)
Date: February 15, 2016 7:00 PM EDT

Virginia will get an opportunity to put its stamp on the ACC race in its upcoming games but will first have to get past one of the teams near the bottom of the standings.

The seventh-ranked Cavaliers will seek to shake off a stunning loss Monday night by continuing their recent mastery over North Carolina State.

Virginia (20-5, 9-4) trails conference leader North Carolina by 1 1/2 games, but will get to face the Tar Heels and another contender, Miami, to close out this month. The Cavaliers will also take on No. 13 Louisville and Clemson to finish the regular season.

"This stretch of games, I said (to the players), will test the mettle of great teams," coach Tony Bennett said. "Now, I don't think we're a great team. I think at times we're good and can play real good, but this will test us. We'll get ourselves as ready as we can and stay true to who we are."

The Cavaliers' chances for a third consecutive regular-season league title took a hit Saturday as Duke's Grayson Allen banked in a shot at the buzzer to hand Virginia a 63-62 road loss, ending a seven-game win streak.

Bennett thought Allen traveled on the game's final play and Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski felt his sophomore guard was fouled.

"The good thing about a quick turnaround is we don't have time to hang our heads," forward Anthony Gill told the school's official website. "We're going to go in the gym and really move on from this and learn from it, but continue to work."

Virginia will seek to bounce back with a fourth consecutive win over NC State (13-12, 3-9) and seventh in a row at home in the series. The Cavaliers' stingy defense will try to contain red-hot ACC scoring leader Anthony "Cat" Barber (24.1 ppg).

The junior guard had a career-high 38 points in a 99-88 victory against Wake Forest on Saturday and is averaging 32.2 while shooting 53.1 percent in his last five games. Barber has also scored at least 30 points in five of his last seven contests.

"He's elite in terms of his quickness and speed," said Bennett, whose team leads the ACC in scoring defense at 59.8 points per game. "He's added some shooting to his game. He's having a heck of a year."

Barber, who averaged 12.1 points last season, had a combined 17 while shooting 35.0 percent in two losses to Virginia. NC State is averaging 47.7 points during its three-game losing streak to Virginia while shooting 33.5 percent.

The Cavaliers will try to earn an 18th consecutive home win in their only scheduled meeting with the Wolfpack this season. They've beaten the last 38 unranked visitors.

NC State is 1-5 on the road in ACC play and was beaten 67-55 by then-No. 5 North Carolina on Jan. 16 in its only other visit to a ranked team. The Wolfpack are 2-3 overall against Top 25 opponents this season.

Preview: Aggies (18-8) at Shockers (18-7)
Date: February 15, 2016 8:00 PM EDT

With its dominance in the Missouri Valley Conference vanishing over the past 10 days, Wichita State may be looking forward to a break in the league schedule.

The 25th-ranked Shockers still don't figure to have an easy time Monday night against a New Mexico State team that arrives in Kansas riding a nine-game winning streak and considerable NCAA Tournament experience.

Wichita State's lead atop the Missouri Valley has become less comfortable with two losses in three league games, a stunning development for a program that went 35-1 in regular-season play over the previous two seasons and began this one with 11 consecutive conference wins.

Offensive inefficiency was the determining factor in both defeats. After shooting 35.2 percent and going 6 of 27 from 3-point range in a 58-53 loss at Illinois State on Feb. 6, the Shockers (18-7) were held to a season-low 30.3 percent as Northern Iowa halted the nation's longest home winning streak at 43 games with Saturday's 53-50 upset.

"We've got to bounce back and figure out ways to score and come out of the gate a little better, and hopefully get back on the winning trail," coach Gregg Marshall said.

The Shockers rallied from a 15-point deficit to tie Saturday's game at 44 with 11:32 left, then went scoreless for the next 7:42 and missed 15 of their final 17 shots, including open 3-pointers from Ron Baker and Conner Frankamp in the final seconds.

'It's one thing to play your best and play really good and lose. It's another thing to not play good,' guard Fred VanVleet said. 'We didn't play very well.'

Wichita State's two senior stars have been particularly off of late. After going 3 of 15 against Northern Iowa, VanVleet is averaging 7.0 points on 22.6 percent shooting over his last three. Baker, who finished 5 of 16, is averaging 9.8 in his last six after a 15.1 per game mark over the first 19.

Those struggles could continue, as New Mexico State (18-8) is limiting opponents to 36.9 percent during its streak and has yielded 55 points or less in three of its last four. The four-time defending Western Athletic Tournament champion Aggies held Chicago State to 33.3 percent in Saturday's 69-55 win.

"I was pleased the way we played with the energy and concentration that they had," coach Marvin Menzies said.

New Mexico State is just 1-5 in non-conference games on the road, however, and was dealt a 71-54 loss in last season's visit to Koch Arena. The Aggies are 0-7 at Wichita State since an 89-67 win in January 1977, when both were Missouri Valley members.

The Shockers scored 26 points off 20 Aggies turnovers in last season's meeting and should have another advantage in this one. Wichita State ranks second nationally with a plus-5.2 turnover margin and New Mexico State is last in the WAC in that category at minus-3.0.

Wichita State is 14-2 when recording at least 14 takeaways. The Aggies had 17 against 4-23 Chicago State.

New Mexico State, fourth in Division I in rebounding margin at plus-11.1, does present a matchup problem in Pascal Siakam. The 6-foot-9 forward is averaging 21.7 points, 11.7 rebounds and 2.3 blocks and had 24 points on 10-of-12 shooting against Chicago State.

Preview: Cowboys (12-13) at Jayhawks (21-4)
Date: February 15, 2016 9:00 PM EDT

Bill Self admitted he was about as excited as he's been in his 13 years at Kansas after this weekend's huge win over one of the Big 12's top contenders.

While looking forward to the next game against one of the conference's bottom-feeders, Self's voice lost its pep and turned more business-like.

The sixth-ranked Jayhawks look to keep rolling and avenge their only loss against a non-ranked team when Oklahoma State visits Monday night.

Kansas (21-4, 9-3) is riding the high of Saturday's 76-72 win at No. 3 Oklahoma, its second over the Sooners in what has been a heavyweight league matchup this season.

The latest victory lifted the Jayhawks into a share of first place in the Big 12 with No. 10 West Virginia, which they beat 75-65 four days earlier as part of a five-game winning streak.

"You can tell I'm excited, but this is about as much fun as I've had coaching the game in a while," Self said. "It was a big, big, big-time game and a huge win. Of course, it sets up a rematch game on Monday."

That's when the enthusiasm in Self's voice mellowed.

"It doesn't do anything unless we take care of business the rest of the way," he added. "We still got a lot of hard games left. It's early in the conference race."

Maybe the reason Self backed up a bit was the sequence of events that followed last month's 109-106 triple-overtime win over Oklahoma. That victory lost some of its luster over an ensuing 3-3 stretch, including a bitter 86-67 road loss against the Cowboys (12-13, 3-9) on Jan. 19.

Oklahoma State handed the Jayhawks their worst defeat since early last season, becoming responsible for two of their previous three losses against unranked teams. However, both came in Stillwater - the first a 67-62 decision last February.

Kansas has won two in a row and 11 of 12 in this series at Allen Fieldhouse since 1997. The Jayhawks are 14-0 there this season and have won 39 in a row at home dating to Jan. 11, 2014 - the third-longest streak in school history.

After averaging 69 points on 41.8 percent shooting in the five games that followed its marathon win over Oklahoma last month, Kansas has scored 77.5 per game and shot 50.3 percent in the last six.

Top scorers Perry Ellis (17.2 points per game coming in) and Wayne Selden Jr. (14.7) combined for just 16 this time against the Sooners, but Devonte' Graham filled the void with the best game of his career. The sophomore guard made 6 of 9 from 3-point range and scored a career-high 27 while defending Buddy Hield - one of the nation's top scorers.

"He was as good (Saturday) as anybody's been at Kansas since I've been here," Self said of Graham, who helped hold Hield without a field goal in the first half after the Sooners star scored 46 in the first meeting. "He was special."

Oklahoma State ranks near the bottom of the Big 12 by allowing 69.7 points per game in league play, but the Cowboys snapped a three-game losing streak with Saturday's 58-55 overtime win over Kansas State - moving them one game ahead of last-place TCU.

They seek their first back-to-back victories since early January while trying to improve to 2-6 in true road games.

"I'm obviously proud," coach Travis Ford told the team's official website. "We've been through a lot and I feel bad for them because they hear the same things that I hear."

Big Monday Tip Sheet
February 14, 2016

The second half of February’s college basketball schedule gets off to fast start on ESPN’s Big Monday with two of the top teams in the nation continuing their push for the regular season title in their respective conference.

The first game on the slate in a 7 p.m. (ET) start is a border clash between the North Carolina State Wolfpack and the No. 7 Virginia Cavaliers in the ACC. Next-up is a Big 12 battle in Lawrence with the No. 6 Kansas Jayhawks playing host to the Oklahoma State Cowboys at 9 p.m.

North Carolina State Wolfpack at No. 7 Virginia Cavaliers (ESPN, 7 p.m. ET)

Opening Odds: Virginia -12 ½

Betting Matchup

NC State has just three straight-up wins in the ACC this season against nine losses, but one of those victories came this past Saturday with a 99-88 romp over Wake Forest as an eight-point home favorite. The Wolfpack have now covered against the spread in their last four games and the total has gone OVER in their last six outings.

Junior guard Anthony Barber scored a career-high 38 points in Saturday’s win with 30 of the points coming in the second half. He leads NC State in scoring this season with 24.1 points per game as part of the team’s 76.2 point scoring average.

The Cavaliers should lose some ground in the national rankings this week following Saturday’s 63-62 loss to Duke at the buzzer, but they managed to cover as two-point road underdogs. They are now 4-1 both SU and ATS in their last five games and the total has stayed UNDER in all five of those contests.

Senior guard Malcolm Brogdon leads Virginia in scoring with 17.7 PPG and he matched that total with a team-high 18 points in Saturday’s loss. The team as a whole is averaging 71 points a game while shooting an efficient 49.5 percent from the field, but its main strength remains a defense that is ranked third in the nation in points allowed (59.8).

Betting Trends

-- The Wolfpack have covered in their last four road games, but they are just 1-4 ATS in their last five games following a SU win. The total has stayed UNDER in six of their last eight games following a SU win.

-- The Cavaliers are 9-4-1 ATS in their last 14 games played on Monday and they are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games following a SU loss. The total has gone OVER in 12 of their last 17 Monday games.

-- Head-to-head in this conference clash, the underdog has covered the spread in five of the last six meetings and the total has stayed UNDER in four of the last five games.

Oklahoma State Cowboys at No.6 Kansas Jayhawks (ESPN, 9 p.m. ET)

Opening Odds: Kansas -13

Betting Matchup

It has been a long season for Oklahoma State at 12-13 SU and this record includes a 3-9 mark in Big 12 play. The Cowboys are 2-5 SU (3-3-1 ATS) in their last seven games, but they are coming off a rare conference win following Saturday’s 58-55 victory against Kansas State as 1 ½-point home favorites. The total stayed UNDER the 131-point closing line in that game and it has now stayed UNDER in their last six games.

Freshman guard Jawun Evans has led the team in both points (12.9) and assists (4.9), but he missed the game against Kansas State with a shoulder injury and there is no time-table for his return. This will put a dent in a Cowboys’ 69 point scoring average that is already ranked second to last in the Big 12.

Kansas is tied with West Virginia at 9-3 SU for the lead in the Big 12. Following a huge 76-72 upset of Oklahoma this past Saturday as three-point road underdogs, the Jayhawks are riding a five-game winning streak both SU and ATS. The total stayed UNDER 156 in that win and it has stayed UNDER in five of their last six games.

Sophomore guard Devonte’ Graham scored a career-high 27 points against the Sooners with Perry Ellis and Frank Mason III adding a combined 24 points to help pace the win. Kansas is the second-highest scoring team in the conference behind Oklahoma with an average of 82.7 PPG.

Betting Trends

-- The Cowboys are 4-1-1 ATS in their last six Monday games, but they fall to 12-26-1 ATS in their last 39 games on the road. The total has stayed UNDER in four of their last five games on Monday.

-- The Jayhawks are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 home games and they are 9-2 ATS in their last 11 games against a team with a SU losing record. The total has stayed UNDER in four of their last five home games.

-- The home team in this Big 12 matchup has covered in the last five meetings and the total has stayed UNDER in four of those games. Oklahoma State stunned Kansas 86-67 on Jan. 19 as a nine-point home underdog and the total went OVER the closing 142 ½-point line.

Bonus Game: New Mexico State Aggies at No. 25 Wichita State Shockers (ESPN3, 8 p.m. ET)

Opening Odds: Wichita State -14 ½

Betting Matchup

New Mexico State is leading the Western Athletic Conference with a SU record of 9-1 and it is 18-8 SU on the year. Sophomore guard Pascal Siakam leads the Aggies in scoring with 21.7 PPG and he is pulling down a team-high 11.7 rebounds a game. He has now scored at least 24 points in four of his last five starts.

The Shockers are the top team in the Missouri Valley Conference at 12-2 SU as part of an overall record of 18-7. They have dropped two of their last three games after closing as double-digit favorites including this past Saturday’s 53-50 setback against Northern Iowa as 14 ½-point favorites at home. Wichita State is ranked sixth in the nation in points-allowed; holding teams to just 60.4 PPG.

Betting Trends

-- The Aggies are 4-1-1 ATS in their last six Monday games and the total has stayed UNDER in eight of their last 11 road games.

-- The Shockers are 5-13 ATS in their last 18 nonconference games and the total has gone OVER in nine of their last 13 games following a SU loss.

-- These two met last season with Wichita State cruising to a 71-54 victory as a 12-point home favorite. There was no posted total line for this game.

Kansas City Royals-- 87-- Defending champs not getting lot of love here.

Milwaukee Brewers-- 71.5-- Total rebuild underway at Miller Park.

Cincinnati Reds-- 71-- Lowest number on the board.

**********

Armadillo: Monday's List of 13: Wrapping up a sports weekend......

13) Nine years ago, Georgetown made the Final Four-- long time ago. Since then, the Hoyas are 3-7 in NCAAs, with four first-round losses, no Sweet 16's. At 14-12 this season, they're likely to miss the tourney for the second time in three years. You wonder if JohnThompson III's job is shaky-- probably not, but you never know.

12) UNLV would like to hire Dayton's Archie Miller as its next basketball coach, but is UNLV a better job than Dayton? Lot of unrealistic expectations in Vegas- they always recruit well, but so many of their players leave too early for the NBA. If I'm Miller's friend advising him, I'd advise him to wait for something bigger.

11) Miller's brother Sean is 184-57 at Arizona, 88-33 in Pac-12 play, but he hasn't been to a Final Four-- he is 11-5 in NCAA games at Arizona, but 0-3 in regional finals. At most places they would throw him a parade, but they have high expectations in the desert and this year's Wildcat team isn't as good as previous teams.

10) There are rumors that Rick Pitino could be headed to Las Vegas; bringing his son with him as an assistant coach/heir apparent. Richard Pitino's Minnesota team is 0-13 in the Big 14-- their only win since Dec 1 was over #345 Chicago State. Pitino would have to be the greatest salesman ever to sell his son as his heir apparent in Vegas

9) Albany coach Will Brown is Mr March; his Great Danes have won the America East tournament five times in the last decade- during that time, his record in regular season conference games is 105-68, pretty good but not dominant. Albany was the #1 seed in only two of those five tournament wins- they also won as a #2, 4 and a 5.

For the record, Albany is winless in the NCAAs, but 4-1 against the spread and yes, I went to college there. Despite that, they have a good academic reputation.

8) Wisconsin's interim coach Greg Gard has proven he can coach at the Big 14 level, leading his Badgers to seven straight wins, including wins over Michigan State, Indiana and Maryland, but if I'm the Wisconsin athletic director, I have one question left, and it can't be answered before they have to decide on Gard's job status-- can he recruit at the Big 14 level, the way Bo Ryan did? It always takes good players to win games.

7) Golfer Vaughn Taylor won at Pebble Beach Sunday, his first PGA win since '05; Taylor had 14 top 10's in 85 events from 2004-06, winning twice- he was on Ryder Cup team in 2006, but from 2011-15, he had three top 10's in 84 events, as his game went south. Past successes do not guarantee future success.

Golf is tough-- ton of competition-- if you lose your confidence, can be difficult to get your game back. Was fun to see how happy he was when he won yesterday. Now he is back on Tour for the next three years, when he had no place to play before this.

6) Gonzaga hasn't missed the NCAAs since 1998; since 2002, Bulldogs are 199-23 in conference play- they're 24-4 in last 13 WCC tourneys, but in NCAA games, they are 12-12, with only two Sweet 16's, and no Elite 8's.

Next year the Zags add Washington transfer Nigel Williams-Goss, and Gonzaga will become more dominant in the league, with a great PG. They could be a Final Four team in the next couple years; anything they do this year would be a little supririsng.

5) Harvard won the Ivy League the last four years, but this year, they're 2-6 and haven't covered a conference game yet. Their PG got hurt and isn't playing this year. In the Ivy League, there are no redshirts, so the kid had to leave school for the year.

Ivy League has some weird rules, but there are murmurs that a conference tournament is on the horizon, which would help bring them closer to the 21st century.

4) Georgia State won the Sun Belt LY, with Ron Hunter coaching his son, but Ron Jr is in the NBA and the Panthers are struggling, losing seven of their last nine games, losing last two games by one point each. Sun Belt tournament is going to be fun, with both Louisiana schools, Little Rock and Tex-Arlington the favorites.

3) I have no idea if Boston College's move to the ACC has been profitable, but on the field of play, its been a disaster. This is the 11th year for BC in ACC- they have a conference record of 68-110, and haven't made the NCAAs since 2009. In their last four years in the Big East, Boston College was 41-23 in conference games.

2) St Mary's has five freshmen, three sophs and no seniors on its team; they're #335 in the country (out of 351) in experience, but they're 20-4, 11-3 in the WCC, so they're having an excellent season, but are the new kids tiring? Gaels split their last four games, are 1-8 vs spread in their last nine-- curious to see how they finish up.

1) Avery Johnson is going to be a force in the SEC; his Alabama team is 15-9, 6-6 in the SEC, a surprisingly good season. Crimson Tide beat Wichita State, Notre Dame, Clemson by a total of six points in pre-conference play-- now they've won their last four SEC games. and if they finish strong, could find themselves on the bubble at this time next month, a totally unexpected result.

Johnson played, coached in the NBA; Alabama made a great hire with him.

Armadillo's Write-Up

Monday, February 15

Oakland won seven of its last eight games; they're 6-0 on Horizon road-- all four Horizon losses were at home. Grizzlies crushed Wright St. 89-63 at home Jan 29, shooting 65% inside arc, scoring 1.31 ppp; Wright beat Valparaiso Saturday after losing to UIC; they're 7-0 at home in Horizon, with five wins by 11+ points. Horizon home teams are 3-11 vs spread in games where spread was 3 or less points.

NC State is 1-5 on ACC road, winning at Pitt; four of its five road losses are by 8 or less points. Wolfpack lost its last three games with Virginia, losing last six visits here, with four of last five by double digits. Oklahoma State at Kansas (-14, 137.5) (9 pm ET, ESPN) - Monday, Feb. 15

Oklahoma State (12-13 SU, 13-9-1 ATS) is a very young and inexperienced team that has been without their best player for the majority of the season as guard Phil Forte III was injured in the third game in November after scoring 34 points in the first two games. Now the Cowboys are also without their second best scorer as guard Jawun Evans was injured four games ago on February 3rd and has not played since. Evans averages 12.9 points per game and leads the team with 108 assists while shooting 47.5% from three-point range this season.

The Cowboys have been poor on the road, going 1-6 SU in true road games, and now they are walking into one of the toughest venues in college basketball for this Big Monday tilt where the Jayhawks stand 13-0 SU this season. #2 ranked Kansas (21-4 SU, 15-8 ATS) was embarrassed 86-67 at Oklahoma State last month, so the Jayhawks will be geared-up to avenge that inexplicable loss as a 9-point road favorite. OSU's Jawun Evans led the Cowboys with 22 points and 8 assists in that upset win last month, so his absence will be a factor tonight.

Kansas enters on a perfect 5-0 SU/ATS run, including a huge 76-72 win at Oklahoma this past Saturday as a 3.5-point road underdog. Normally, this would be a potential flat spot for the Jayhawks as a big favorite tonight, playing their second game in just three days after a huge underdog win. However, Kansas is less likely to letdown this evening since this is a national TV home game and the Jayhawks have a legitimate revenge motive.

Armadillo: Tuesday's six-pack

Current odds to win the 2016 World Series (William Hill)

5-1-- Chicago Cubs-- Opened at 10-1 back in November.

7-1-- San Francisco Giants-- It is an even-numbered year, after all.

8-1-- Houston Astros-- Cubs/Astros in top three of favorites? Wow.

9-1-- Cardinals/Rangers-- Texas signed Ike Davis Monday-- yikes!!!!

11-1-- Boston Red Sox-- Signing David Price lowered odds from 25-1.

12-1-- Mets/Dodgers-- Curious if Washington will play better as an underdog.

**********

Armadillo: Tuesday's List of 13: Nobody asked me, but.......

13) Apparently quality of high school basketball in New York City has declined; I'm watching the LIU-St Francis game Monday afternoon-- both schools are located in Brooklyn and both teams have a kid from Iceland-- freakin' Iceland!!!! Normally you would use subway tokens to recruit for those teams, but not anymore.

12) Oakland Grizzlies have a player named Max Hooper; young man is 98-214 on the arc this season, 0-0 inside the arc-- he hasn't taken a single shot inside the arc all year long. NOT ONE!!!! He is 18-19 on the foul line- he stands on the arc, waits for his point guard to penetrate and dish, then fires away.

11) If you win a Grammy, you have to sign a waiver saying you won't sell it, so you will never find one in a Las Vegas pawnshop. Thought you'd like to know.......

10) TV ratings for the NBA All-Star Game were up 6% from last year; can't say I added to that-- any game where there are 369 points scored, with only seven foul shots taken in the whole game-- thats not a competitive situation. Not fun to watch.

9) UConn won national titles in 2011, 2014; they were underdogs in seven of those 12 games, including their last five games in 2014.

8) UConn's 2014 team are only national champions in last 28 years who were an underdog in their second round game. In 1988, Kansas was pick 'em in its first round game, against Xavier, on their way to an unlikely national title as a 6-seed.

7) This will be sixth year of the field of 68, with four play-in games in Dayton on Tuesday/Wednesday before the main fun starts-- over the first five years, underdogs are 12-7-1 vs spread in those play-in games in Dayton-- 7-3 with the better teams in the play-in games, the 12-seed types, 5-4-1 in the 16-seed type teams. .

6) Over last three seasons, in first round of NCAA tournament, favorites of less than 5 points were 13-21 against the spread.

5) Over last four years, second round favorites of more than 5 points are 17-11-1.

4) We talked about Sean Miller yesterday; he is 11-4 in NCAA games at Arizona; he is 8-0 on the first weekend, only 3-4 on the second weekend. You get paid millions to win games on that second weekend, to get to the Final Four.

3) Not only has Kansas won the last 11 regular season titles in the Big X, they're 22-4 in the last ten Big X tournaments. In the four years they didn't win the title, they got KO'd in second round of NCAAs twice, in third round once and lost the national title in the fourth season. Bill Self takes the conference tourney seriously.

2) Bobby Hurley is finding out that Arizona State is a tough job-- he is 14-12, 4-9 in the Pac-12. Herb Sendek was his predecessor in Tempe- he is a damn good coach. Not a lot of great high school players in Arizona; so you have to be a recruiting dynamo to bring enough good players to the desert to win in the Pac-12.

1) Hard to believe that St John's has been in the NCAAs only twice in the last 14 years. Chris Mullin has a huge rebuilding job on his hands, but he should be able to bring players into NYC's highest profile program. You would think, at least.

Letdown spot

Wisconsin is rolling these days. In fact, the Badgers enter Thursday's game at Michigan State off seven straight wins, covering the spread in all seven of those games. One of those victories came at Illinois, a 63-55 Badger win on 1/31. Off the big game vs. the Spartans, and off a big upset win at Maryland in their previous game, it may be easy for the Badgers to suffer a letdown against the lowly Illini. Keep in mind that Maryland and Michigan State are the top two teams in the conference while Illinois (11-14) is third from the bottom. Consider grabbing the points with revenge-minded Illinois on Sunday afternoon.

Lookahead spot

The Louisville Cardinals responded to the news that they weren't eligible for the postseason by blowing out a bad Boston College team. Since then, the Cardinals have suffered losses at Duke and at Notre Dame. They'll get another crack at Duke on Saturday afternoon and the recent revenge factor should help provide the Cardinals with some added motivation for that game. First, however, Louisville will take on Syracuse on 2/17. Sure, the Cards will want to snap their losing streak. They'll be laying a fairly big number though and with the Blue Devils looming on deck, it could be easy to get caught looking ahead. Take a look at Syracuse on Wednesday.

Schedule spot

Returning home from an extended road trip can be tough. Girlfriends, wives, friends, bills (regular life) all need to be attended to and can often prove distracting. On Thursday the 18th the Maple Leafs will be playing their first game in Toronto in two full weeks. Much has happened over that span, as the team has traded away its captain, while traveling across the continent. The last time that the Leafs returned from a West Coast trip, they were defeated by lowly Columbus, in their first game back. The Hurricanes are 10-4 their last 14 visits here, including wins in each of the last two. They won here 1-0 in January and 4-1 here last season. Consider Carolina on Thursday.
