I know everyone hates how Lebron handled "the decision" but he did donate 2.5 million to the boys and girls club of America.

Pats there are plenty who believe Lebron is superior to Jordan.

Those who haven't seen both play get a pass.

But for all who have seen both play most or all of their careers, I just don't honestly understand how or why they think that way.

Well not everyone is as hardcore nostalgic as you. You would obviously like to think your baseline player from 30 years ago is athletically comparable to the modern player.

With no blinders, your gonna come to the conclusion this just isn't true in the NFL or NBA pretty fast.

football everyone is bigger, stronger, faster across the board.

in NBA height is the same but perimeter players are taller. Bigs are actually a little smaller because foot speed is so important.

Hache, if you don't think there is much difference then where did all the white guys go? Are there just less athletic white guys that play basketball in America right now? Seems weird considering its a more lucrative endeavor than ever.

I remember when William Perry was such an anomoly he became a celebrity just because of his size.
Now every team in the NFL has 3 or 4 players his size or bigger.

I have to disagree on the stronger comment....some, if not the best strongmen in history, were from 50+ to 100 yrs ago. The feats they accomplished will never ever be broken even with drugs of today

What you guys say is true, but only to a very small extent.

Not near as much as you're making out.

I explained on that original post about it.

As I said there if that were the case then ever RB would have the size & speed Bo Jackson had.

Every CB would have the combo of speed & coverage skills as Deion Sanders.

Every NBA player would be like Shawn Kemp back then, or Blake Griffin now.

These types of studs are still as rare as they used to be.
Are they not?

Also, are players REALLY getting bigger, faster, and stronger, or is it simply because more people play sports these days...???

I think its better nutrition and a greater knowledge of training.
Back in the day some NFL teams did not even have weight rooms.

Micky Mantle said he never lifted a weight in his life.
This was typical back then.

Why would every Forward, running back and cornerback have the same skillset as a once in a generation athlete? That is taking things a bit far.

The underlying and obvious point is just that on average guys are better at X, Y, Z.

Would Dominique Wilkins be able to play in todays game? Yes obviously, but he wouldn't be as physically dominant and a lot of his teammates wouldn't be able to play. I.e Craig Ehlo...No disrespect to Craig Ehlo.

Nutrition, training, HGH, PEDs, economic incentives, etc

These differences are easier to see in football than basketball. Basketball the differences are a little more nuanced (i.e you can't leave your feet to make a pass today or its a turnover, harder to pass in traffic, court smaller because players cover more ground)

However in football pretty much anyone willing to be objective can figure out Adrien Peterson owns Walt Payton as a pure runner in about 2 seconds of analysis.

I'm not sure Bird is a better passer than Lebron - certainly more crafty but Lebron's game is all around - certainly Lebron does not want the ball in any pressure situations of the game - everything is forced - he looks like a bull in a china store scared to take the shots being offered and instead trying to run through 2 defenders to get to the rim

I have I concede defeat on the Shaq vs Hakeem. I asked a friend of mine and he thought I was crazy in saying that Hakeem was a better athlete than Shaq.

Balls-on accurate Hache Man! I personally think LeBron is not yet the player to match Magic or Dr. J either.

I haven't seen him play and that's why I won't hold judgement on how he measures up to all those after him
But I have seen boty MJ and Lebron play , and I love & respect all of my fellow posters on here, but for anyone to make the claim that Lebron is a greater player than Jordan just makes absolutely no sense to me.

Only thing I can think is they need a refresher and need to go back and watch most of his footage again...

I think a lot of people forget just how good MJ was on defense also. I mean Lance Stephenson is guarding Lebron... MJ can D him up any day of the week.
