I'm not sure Bird is a better passer than Lebron - certainly more crafty but Lebron's game is all around - certainly Lebron does not want the ball in any pressure situations of the game - everything is forced - he looks like a bull in a china store scared to take the shots being offered and instead trying to run through 2 defenders to get to the rim

Very insightful post Seymour. This is what puts LeBron several rungs down the ladder when it comes to GOAT consideration!

I would think most everyone could understand that!

I think a lot of people forget just how good MJ was on defense also. I mean Lance Stephenson is guarding Lebron... MJ can D him up any day of the week.

+1... good players nowadays have really good stats simply because the field is mostly weak...

He's the only center in NBA history I have seen do that in non garbage time.

If he would have taken basketball as seriously as Hakeem he would have been one of the top 2 or 3 players of all time.
Did Hakeem have the better career when all is said and done? Probably
But Hakeem to his credit reached his basketball ceiling. He maxed out every ounce of ability.
Shaq really did not even really come close to his full potential.

I don't think there should be any doubt who was the most athletic center of all time.
Im surprised anyone disagrees.

If Shaq couldn't dunk he would have been in trouble....if he was so athletic and dominant how come he never won an NCAA championship?

he played against both of them.

Wow. Who was this guy?
I played pick up basketball for over an hour with Shaq the offseason between going from LA to Miami.
He really hates Kobe and he is really a great guy.

Everyone talks about this being a bad NBA era.
I remember people saying the same thing about the NBA during Jordans era.

I remember everyone saying back then "yea but the NBA is not as good as it was in the 80's with Magic and Bird, the bad boys and Dr J.

Lebron is a great all around player, one of the best ever.

As far as scoring ability, Jordan and Kobe are the two best ever. I know a lot of people will disagree. I actually think Kobe is the best all-time in being able to hit difficult shots, especially in key moments. I think many have forgotten how good Kobe is/was, same thing with mike.

Yeah well I never thought I'd hear people talk about the early 1990s New York Knicks in a positive fashion. That team was so ugly to watch that OJ had to stepup and start a car chase during the finals in '94. If there can be nostalgia about that team, there can be nostalgia about anything.

People talking about era's in basketball is a lot more interesting from a cognitive bias perspective than it is from an actual basketball perspective.

Back then people legitimately thought a 19 foot jumper worth 2 points was better than a 22 foot jumper worth 3 points. Think about that for a second.

Muggsy said that ruined his career I guess. Seems kinda weird, at 5'3 that couldn't have been the first time someone said something like that to him. You gotta be pretty mentally tough to make the NBA at 5'3 I would think

Kobe did hit a lot more deep and mid range shots and hit many more with an insane degree of difficulty than Jordan - this comes from a die hard Spurs fan who watched him make most of these with Bowen in his back pocket - real difference is Jordan could get to the rim all day - 8 days a week

I have I concede defeat on the Shaq vs Hakeem. I asked a friend of mine and he thought I was crazy in saying that Hakeem was a better athlete than Shaq.

So what drugs were you on that day. LOL

Happens all the time.
The other day I was talking to an 80 something year old guy who used to love baseball in the 50's. Every word out of his mouth was nothing more then how much better the players were back then.

According to him every hitter hit .400 and every pitcher had an ERA of 1.23.
