Went last night for 3-D showing....great effects and worth the watch. 3-D is the way of the future. My eyes hurt for awhile after the movie...using muscles you're not used to.

Just watched it as well, the 3D must be frigging awesome because on a regular screen this movie sucks really really bad.

Saw this IMAX 3D and it was amazing. The story was predictable and some of the lines were a little lame but the jump in technology made it awesome for the entire 150 minutes. Should apeal to movie lovers of all kinds, if you don't like this one save your money on the others.:dancefool

Again, it was a cheap knock-off of Star Wars!!
I have seen Star wars at least 50 times and Avatar twice now. I honestly can not think of one single thing the two movies have in common other than they are both ground breaking Sci-Fi films for their respective time periods.

I can understand the comparison to 'Dances with wolves' but Cameron already admitted as much, and he seems to be perfectly OK with it.

And if the story were any more involving than it is, it would take away from the incredible never before seen special effects. The whole thing works together as a package.

I think he might be referencing Return of the Jedi with the Ewoks kicking Stormtrooper ass. Still, quite the stretch, IMO.

If that isn't it, then I have no idea on what he is basing the comparison.

A more valid comparison would be Dances With Wolves.

Phenomenal movie. I don't see movies often, maybe a couple a year in theaters.. Hadn't planned on this, naver plan to see a movie (However, I will for the 3rd Batman by Nolan if he chooses to make one), but saw this last friday on opening night in 2D, not even a great theater, and loved it. Watched it online the next night, and I still want to see it a 3rd time in 3D. Great movie.

Awesome movie in every sense of the word, cant remember the last movie I saw that was this good and packed with that much feeling. I've got a feeling that republicans must hate this movie though. Nothing worse than enjoying a movie that goes against the idea that its ok to destroy for profit, im honestly suprised Fox News didnt organize some kind of boycott.

Nice bullshit political comment.

Republicans don't believe it's ok to destroy for profit.

They also don't believe it's ok to make up climate data to rape people
from billions of dollars.

Ok maybe my statement was a little harsh, but the Iraq references were definately there, and Im sure it made more than one Republican's blood boil to have to sit through this movie with their kids while the tree hugging anti-exploitation message was being fed to them.

The human greed angle was completely overdone, but the movie was just amazing. I sat there for 2.5 hours and did not care a bit as my whole body stiffened up.

Great movie! Saw it with some Marines who all enjoyed the Marine hero angle.

Yeah that was a nice touch, I nearly broke out in tears in the scene involving his first moments as his avatar. (trying not to spoil it here, but it did hit very close to home for me)

And if the Road Warrior says it, it must be true..

Avatar, the movie that we all love, is lighting up the box office in a crazy fashion.
So far, the movie has hauled in nearly $400 million dollars. Avatar was rumored to have cost a total of between 300 and 500 million dollars, depending on how you count.
The good news: given current daily hauls, Avatar should break even, assuming the worst projections of its cost, in about a week. Take a look yourself, and check the math.
The film was quite a risk financially, putting such a large sum into an unproven franchise. The director did state that if the film was a commercial success he would create two others. Fans of the movie, let’s all go and see it again to make this happen.
Avatar is my personal pick for best picture this year, it blows away anything else that I have seen so far. Will its plot genre or production style kill its chances? We shall see, but if it does not at least get a nomination, I shall be annoyed.
Avatar has proven it folks: make a damn fine film and people will come to see it, no matter their initial reservations.

Well I saw it yesterday morning & I have to admit the big screen and the 3D made all the difference.

Very, very good.

Hopefully we will see a sequel or at least something similar in the future.....
