Avatar, Sherlock Holmes…: Blows the box office creating history!
Let’s checkout some of the huge collections made by three films namely “Avatar “, “Sherlock Holmes” and “Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel”. The trio simply blew the box office with sky rocketing collection of $278 million in USA and Canada over three day weekend.
Let’s check out the individual collection of the films. Avatar gathered a whooping sum of $75 million worth of tickets in the U.S. and Canada, “Sherlock Holmes” went with a bang of $65.4 million in pocket while “Alvin” not far behind a huge total of $50.2 million.
“It’s amazing to see one weekend with so many movies doing so much business,” said Rob Moore, vice chairman of Paramount Pictures.
The weekend’s one disappointment was “Nine,” which debuted nationwide to a weak $5.5 million. Though the film claimed to turn out big but somehow failed even with big star cast on board.
Avatar’s worldwide collection is $617.3 million in just 10 days, making it very likely to be only the fourth picture in history to top $1 billion worldwide. Does anyone know that the film spent $430-million behind the creation? In one word it was quite risky to for the producers but got its fruits in the end.
Films have added spice in the festive mood of the people this weekend with Christmas and New Year on the run. Truly a remarkable achievement for the producers we can say.
