3D is a fad, IMO.
...and one that needs to go away quickly.

November 30, 2009 - The use of 3D technology in TVs is something we're still waiting to become fully realized. Just about every manufacturer is making an effort to bring viewers into the third dimension, however, Sony is one of the few to fully commit themselves to focusing on 3D when it comes to their future lineup, even going so far to say they predict that 3D televisions will account for 30 to 50 percent of all the TVs the company sells in the fiscal year starting April 2012.

Back in September, Sony first announced their plans to jump head first into the 3D world, stating that 3D-capable versions of their Bravia televisions, Blu-ray players and even the PlayStation 3 would soon become reality, with the PS3 3D update coming via a firmware update.
As for the implementation of the technology, all Sony 3D TVs will come with a small piece of hardware that lets the set display 3D content while at the same time still working as a standard television. In the short term you'll still need to wear special 3D glasses, which aren't expected to come bundled with the televisions and could run up to $200 each.
For content, Sony plans on focusing on three different areas, namely sports, gaming and movies. There are already 3D-enabled PS3 titles in the works, as are 3D movies coming out of Sony Pictures. No immediate sport plans have been announced yet, though Sony agrees that avid sports fans are always willing to pay a little more for a better viewing experience.
