He will join Lackey and Beckett as the majors winningiest pitchers with fifteen victories.

Wow. Sox got to Lackey the other day.

That is a tribute to Wake and if could get to 18-20 then what a great year. Hard to believe he could have as many wins as Beckett.

Wakefield with a shutout through six innings. Unbelievable, even though I did make a wager on him.

Good bet. Wake ERA is dropping. It was like high 4's pretty recent which is not great. But since he is really pitching well his ERA is 4.35 (as of right now) or so and looking better and better.

After this win what does that make him? 19-2 vs. the D-Rays?

Rob, do you remember his early years with Sox? He was constantly baffling hitters and often had them taking these monster swipes for 3rd strike - great entertainment! He is good this year for sure (I can't think of any other #4 starter I would take over him) but he hasn't gone on a 6 or 7 game streak like he did years ago.

FWIW, I don't expect anyone outside of NE to notice but Tavarez might be the best 5th starter in AL.

Tim Wakefield tonight as Red Sox win 6-0 in Tampa Bay.

Wakefield 7 Inn. Pitched 77 pitches 4 hits 0 runs 1 BB 5 Ks.

15 and 10 on the season.

Best of all - only Cy Young and Roger Clemens while pitching for The Boston Red Sox have won more games in the over 100 year old history of the Red Sox franchise than Tim Wakefield.

Of course there are some people who think he stinks no matter how well he pitches.

Tim Wakefield goes to 16-10 on the year.

Today at Chicago in a 14-2 win against the White Sox Tim went 7 full innings giving up no runs on 3 hits, walked 3, and struckout 6.

Not bad for a 41 year old making $4M as he beat Mark Buherle who dropped to 9-9 on the season. Buherle recently signed a two year extension to stay in Chicago putting his salary in the over $10M per season range.

How come this thread got so quiet. :ughhh:

Because many lost perspective. No way was the lead going to maintain at 12 games or whatever... the Yanx would cut into it but the question was always can they do enough to overtake Sox? The answer was simply no but many like to be playful. I think yanks get wild card -- and I absolutely wnat Sox/Yanks faceoff in playoffs, thats Baseball!!! Yankees could no way do any better than they have since AllStar break and should be commended but too many Yankee fans became unrealistic I think. Yanx had an ALL TIME easy schedule coming out of Allstar break and many did not weigh this properly. FWIW, I never got on the "Stick-A-Fork-in-the Yankees" bandwagon back in June, that was silly Sox fans being unrealistic but majority can't help themselves as they are giddy and myopic.

It will be interesting to see where he'd start in the playoffs if he continues to pitch this well.

Beckett, Dice K, Schilling, Wakefield....would Francona skip Wakefield? If he keeps this up Francona will have a very tough decision to make...he's not going to skip any of the other 3.
