I think I have made some points. Everyone says how great it is to have a guy like Wakefield because he makes his starts and even takes pressure off he bullpen because he can come in relief betweein his start yet he hasn't done that not once over the past 3 years.

I simplly brought up Maddux to see your reaction to that and you basically told me he sucks, then you go on say that his stats are similiiar to Wakefieds. You can't have it both ways.

I never said that Maddux sucks. Nobody did. But it's a fact that he has very similar numbers to Wakefield, despite the fact Maddux pitches in Petco and Wakefield pitches in Fenway. So that skews any comparison between the two.

You tell me he got shelled against the devils rays but these are the numbers from that start.

inn hit runs hr bb kk
6.1 6 4 0 3 4

here is some of the wins wakefield has

6.1 6 4 0 2 2
6 9 4 2 0 2
6.1 7 4 1 2 2
5.2 8 5 2 1 3
7 5 4 0 1 4

And I don't think the owners are puking over paying Greg 10 million. Maybe puking because he has left 5 games with leads just to wach the bullpen blow those leads.

Wil already explained the Devil Rays comment. As for Maddux's salary you're absolutely right. Having him for $10 million is fairly reasonable in today's market. Thanks for making my argument about Wakefield at $4 million.

TIMMY didn't help the cause in his 4 ininngs of work this evening in Anaheim. Hopefully in the playoffs they find one more arm after BECKETT, DICE, and SCHILL for their sake.

I respect Timmy to the fullest.

I just cant stand to see the guy take the hill against good teams.

God, I hate it.

I hope this satisfys the guys who like Wake a lot, and allows me to express my views as a sox fan. With all partys happy.

I think WAKE is a viable regular season pitcher, eatng up innings. THE POST-SEASON is a totally differant animal, Maddux and WAKE are not even in the same sentence. No problem putting Maddux out there, the man finds the plate.

Good teams and playoffs, you dont want Wake sniffing dirt. WOW he is HORRID.

Why did we give up Gabbard again?!

Gabbard is not very good really. He's a number 4 starter at best IMO (and that may end up being a stretch when all is said and done) and he wasn't staying in the rotation with Schill and Lester coming back. And we got a great asset in return.

That said a little vindication from Wake last night would have been nice. But it was an ugly performance. He was hurt by Lugo's big error, but he still just didn't have it against a very tough offense.

This thread will be bumped til Wakefield retires....every bad outing 'bump'.

He seems to either be loved or hated....even by some diehard Sox fans! Wow.

Wake did a great Job. 14-10 for a #4 starter is pretty darn solid. Big game and big win. In dedication to WIL: "How about that Tim Wakefield?!"

amazing....he can actually win 20 this year considering he faces the rays a few more times....I love the way in which he makes papelbon and other hard throwers so much more effective when they come in after him because of the junk/gas disparity.

If he wins 17 that will be quite a feat. Good point above but how about saving the bullpen and staff thru the years eating up innings and even coming out of the pen if asked. Heres to you Wake!

:nohead: another Wakefield masterpiece....of course the detractors will say 'it was only TB' and he's just a lucky guy who's on the right team .

If Wakefield hangs on tonight and earns the victory, he will be leading the majors in wins.
