If any of you do decide to come out, remember not to drink the tap water here, and if you try the street bbq food, make sure they cook the chicken thoroughly.

Just motion for them to keep it on the grill if they try to give you some sally mill poisoning.

What's the deal, are they known for not cooking the chicken all
the way? Why would they do this?

The first time I bought a drumstick off the street center of the chicken was pink and not fully done.

A lot of people who come here get diarrhea when they first get here, sanitation levels on a whole are just not as high as the U.S

If you don't tell them to leave it on there, they generally don't cook the street food all the way through.

I wouldn't eat any street vendor food there at all; you know they have no clue about proper food handling HACCP.

I would stay away from drumsticks, stick with Satays (skewered meats) they cooked very quikly.

Let's just say if Thailand had any sort of Board Of Health Organizations, 90% of the vendors on the streets would be shut down...but I honestly never seen anyone get sick from these street vendors...great food and cheap...

I'm not sure I would go so far as to say its great, but some of it is pretty good. The skewers are good.

Those taco things they throw together with the fresh chicken and sauce and vegetables are very good imo.

I hope I don't die from this bite wound on my hand.

If you're really concerned go see a doctor and get the shots.

"Older rabies vaccines required painful, daily injections in the abdomen (stomach) for up to three weeks, and they could produce severe side effects. Current vaccines are relatively painless and are given in your arm, like a flu or tetanus vaccine."

It's too late for people who develop symptoms. By that time it's certain death.

It's been my experience that most Asian women, except Japanese, have relatively little hair down there. Most don't shave it.

Thanks to festeringZit and 1cheater for injecting some reality into this thread.

On the one had there's James T Kirk and Seymour describing a paradise of nubile young hookers who love to f*ck and s*ck. You can fall asleep with a ton of cash on the dresser, and the hooker in your room wouldn't think of stealing your money.
Sure.

On the other hand, this is a 3rd world country with corrupt police, jails considered among the worst in the world, poor sanitation compared to US standards, and a great deal of crushing poverty.
Could it be that those young women don't want to be f*cking and s*cking, but were forced/sold into it?
Some of them surely.

RE: HIV infection in Thailand - "...on a global scale the level of infection is still quite high, estimated at between 3 – 5 per cent of the population."

Bangkok is known for being extremely polluted - the air and the rivers.

I found Bangkok to be very difficult for me to breath in . It is very polluted because of the millions of cars & buses. It is also humid, which will add to the difficulty in breathing. Make sure you bring your inhaler or pick one up at a pharmacy there."

Also interesting that the country is close to erupting into civil war, yet all that's mentioned in this thread is the cost of soapy massages.

I have a few questions which perhaps VD can answer:

1) Given the country's anti-gambling stance, what happens to people playing a great deal of online poker/sportsbetting?
Has anyone been busted for this? Warnings by the government?

2) I hate high humidity. Which areas can I go that have a pleasant (non hot and humid temperature) if any?

1) Web sites are blocked randomly here in Pattaya..nobody I know that has been busted...I heard of a couple cases where guys get hurt from not paying their bookie...

2) Northern Thailand in the mountains are comfortable..if you really hate high humidity, do not come to Pattaya Beach...

3) Nobody I have run into or seen is forced into prostitution..they do it because it feeds their families...very few cases of serious drug abuse by hookers...

4) Bangkok is just like any major city in the world...I live an hour and a half south on the beach...there are major problems in every city in the world...

5) You treat these people with respect and you get respect back...

6) If you stroll around town at 3 in the morning and drunk, you deserved to get robbed or mugged...and if you want to act like a big shot or wise guy, please go to another country...

If you stick to the girls working at the clubs and bars, you will not be robbed, remember they have to return to their place of employment..if you pick up a girl from the streets, you get what you deserve...These girls who work in clubs are very friendly and work because it takes care of their families...and lastly I hate to tell a grown man to wear a condom....

Scooter...this is paradise...the adult capitol of the world...

Women, golf, beaches, great food and many water sports...all at almost half the price of the states...if you never have been here, don't knock it...keep believing what you read instead of coming here for a first hand look...

I was over there the last time there was civil unrest in the streets of Bangkok. If you are going to Pattaya area this will not affect you one bit. In fact, other than traffic jams as a consequence, it would not affect you in Bangkok either.

Life on the golf courses and in the Go-Go bars goes on as usual. Tanks were in the streets of Bangkok when I was there. Truly nothing to worry about. It is between protestors backing a prior corrupt Prime Minister and the new regime and police and doesn´t affect visitors. Way blown out of proportion in the warnings.

The one possible inconvenience is if they take over the airport like they did last time and no one could leave the country for a few days.

Travel Report for Thailand from the Canadian government:

"OFFICIAL WARNING: Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada advises against non-essential travel to the Kingdom of Thailand due to ongoing large-scale political demonstrations, which have been marked by violence, death, and injury. The security situation is very volatile with significant potential for further civil unrest, violent clashes, and attacks. Canadians currently in Thailand should avoid all non-essential movement, exercise extreme caution, follow the advice of local authorities, closely monitor local media, and, if violence erupts, remain indoors."

VD - I'm sure there are a lot of positives, and I've been interested in Thailand for a long time. The humidity has kept me away.
But, as the above passage shows, this has to be the worst time to advise anyone to head over there.

And in a thread this long, there's been no mention of this.

I posted pics of the protesters - it's all in Bangkok - I drove past where they were in Patayya and all they do is sit and talk - I passed on Bangkok because I heard a lot of shit was closed do to protests

Hey man, I was there - I've been all over the world - I'm just tell you my experience - you're experience might not be the same as mine

A colleague of mine at work went to Phuket in April and she told me that there they didn't even notice the slightest bit of violence or political uproar, that is going on at Bangkok at the moment.
She and her friends also had an absolutely great time and she def. wants to go back there. The most chaos they got into was because of cancelled flights thanks to that vulcano in Iceland *lol*

So after all I think, VD isn't leaving anything out here, the violence and political demonstrations just don't take place at regions like Pattaya. Bangkok for sure would be a different topic.

My experience is that the American media feeds us a lot bullshit - a couple of months ago I going out with a Columbian and she wanted me to go to Cartegenas with her - I asked if it was safe and she laughed - she said there are some bad areas but why would we go there? she then said she's scared to go to NY because girls get raped in the subways there - Thailand is safe unless you walk around like a drunk beligerent asshole or youre constantly taking out your 8 ball
