It's not illegal to shout stuff, and it IS part of the game right now because it happened and there are no repercussions. I would do that every single time I had a chance to help my team win. If I get hit the next time at bat, even better, I just got on base again. Hit me every time I'm up, lets do it. If someone wants to fight me, bring it, I didn't instigate it and I won't be the one sitting out for 10 games.

"Respect the game" went out the window a long time ago. I'll take a guy who hustles with 2 outs and plays the game the hardest to give his team the best chance to win.

Hell I do the same thing when playing in a friendly softball game. These guys are pros and get heckled all the time by the fans, they should be able to handle a quick AHHH!

Bottom line, it was allowed and Arod was safe. I have seen it before live and on TV, but I never saw it work. I am impressed.

That 3rd baseman should be ashamed of himself for using that lame excuse...someone says boo and he moves away from the ball, are you kidding me?

Sure, it's not against the rule to do what he did.... but neither is doing a pirouette after a HR (Balco Bonds) or somersault (a Japanese player), but it violates the unwritten "code" amongst players. Just like you don't do a dance after striking out a batter or bunt up by 10 runs. Not only are you showing up your opponent but also disrespecting the game.

If it had been A.J. Pierzynski, ESPN would've had a 24 hour discussion panel on what a classless guy he is. So gAy-Fraud got off easy.

But I'll give a standing ovation the next time someone drills him in the head.

FCUK gAy-Fraud.... the most immature prick in baseball.

Why is this thread still alive?

Moot point.

If they catch the ball, the Yankees are still winning 7-5 and Rivera 1 2 3 in the 9th.

Move on. You're falling in the ESPN drama trap.

gay rod lied about what he did and what he said when he spoke to the media.

AT LEAST be a man and tell the truth about what you said. If I remember the 3rd baseman said he said "MINE" which is very bush league. And then he made up that "it probably happens to me 4-5 times a night" whacked out comment. just a complete lie, anyone who has played baseball knows it doesnt happen.

theres too much history with this guy doing extremely cheap moves. hes just a ****** ***** bitch.

sorry, but that is the proper terminology for this metrosexual.

Jeters comment about this.... "No comment". speaks volumes.

another "anyone who knows baseball" argument....sigh

I am pretty sure Arod knows baseball a wee bit better than most of us. He would not say that if it would be so unbelievable by "anyone who knows baseball"

no Riviera pitches different in a 7-5 game than 10-5.

10-5 you just throw strikes. 7-5 the pitches called would have been different and Toronto would have had a better mental outlook as to their chances and some possibility a different ending.

my point being simply its a fallacy to think "everything would have happened the same afterwards even if......" in any game

Haha, you're taking it so personally I love it. The fact that you can't laugh about this play says volumes. I've seen it 9-10 times and get a chuckle each time. Lighten up.

to say that if you know baseball you know it doesn't happen is assinine.

It does happen because it did. I have heard it before many times

WVU you clearly didnt play much baseball. this does not happen. the thrid baseman said in 16 years this had never happened to him.

the reason it worked is because it does not ever happen.

you are so completely and utterly wrong on this, other than pointing that out again I am finished here. its not even debatable

I agree with WVU ....

Why not just drop the "anyone who has played baseball" line ...

... instead, you should just use the "I am an expert and you're not" line ...

LOL ... so you played baseball and WVU didn't ... therefore you know baseball and WVU doesn't ... therefore when it comes to baseball, he shouldn't argue with you ... therefore, you are right and WVU is wrong

I get it.

PS: Next time, you can try the "I am 70 years old and have watched more baseball games than you" line ... that always works.

Exactly. You won't see Jeter, Griffey, Vlad, Ichiro, and others pull this stunt because they are classy and don't disrespect their opponents or the game. It doesn't matter if it worked or not, you just don't do it. How would anyone feel if Tiger Woods taunted his opponents while they were teeing off? It's certainly not illegal.... but would be classless.

incorrect.

the way I phrased it was the correct way. I did not claim to be an expert and WVU not, why would I come out firing at him and calling him out off the bat? I was expressing my viewpoint, not rebutting his.

I said "anyone who has played baseball knows this doesnt happen".why is that such a difficult concept to grasp?

if anyone doubts me ask anyone they know who played a lot of baseball or ask any major leaguer if they have ever seen or heard of a runner calling off a fielder for a fly ball. it does not happen.
