I understand that the less you give out the better. But if you are a partner in a Group of 5, it's 2% out of each pocket.
No shit!

No shit! And it still equivalent to $55k total, or a little less than EACH player would bring home.
I would do 5%, as we agreed to 3-5% off the top, but 10% is ridiculous no matter how you slice.Well I heard that Sharky is only charging 5% of winnings.
and I know there are plenty of guys out there that can be Trusted. But I know for a Fact I can Trust Sharky.
I don't mind giving him a % of my winnings, which I did 2 years ago
Personally I would pretty hesitant to be a proxy even for $250 and 10% of the so called "winnings". It is a real pain in the ass and the chances of any single player winning anything is small...... so likely you are working for the $250. 10% is only ridiculous if you make the rather silly assumption that any particular player is going to win something.
Anyone who has ever spent time trying to find a parking spot at the LVH sportsbook and then stood in line for 40 minutes to get to the counter knows what I am talking about....... maybe at Cantor I would do it..... but the LVH has the worst customer service in Vegas.
I see it differently. If you have 20 people you proxy for, that's $5k upfront, and also a 1 in 50 chance of placing. Not bad, although I don't think any of our proxy's players cashed, but IDK about the other in question.
Like stated, if I lived in LV, I would be all over trying to do this...Maybe I'm wrong, but $300 extra income a week is pretty damn good for a part-time job, not including a chance at a bonus.
$1500 plus $250 for the proxy.

Think ours had at least 17. Another had way more than that...great gigIf you had 20 clients then I agree it would be a pretty good gig at that point.
if he has no one that cashes he literally makes nothing. as the posts above show it is hardly worth the gas, time, and aggravation every week for 17 weeks. and its three [minimum] trips per week, and you have to be available every week, all the time, cause if you miss or make one mistake it will potentially cost somebody a large amount of money. Sharky has had numerous cashes and two overall winners. sometimes you get what you pay for, like the proxy who just stopped making picks after 10 weeks or so.The way I see it, proxies make out pretty well from the start.
If you can just get 17(one for each week of the Season). That $250x17= $4250 and $250 a week. Better than getting a second job would pay. Sign me up...
Still less time and aggravation of having a part time job with mandatory hours. Great gig still for me with better pay than any PT job I've ever had...if he has no one that cashes he literally makes nothing. as the posts above show it is hardly worth the gas, time, and aggravation every week for 17 weeks. and its three [minimum] trips per week, and you have to be available every week, all the time, cause if you miss or make one mistake it will potentially cost somebody a large amount of money. How much time would you estimate a proxy spends per week with 17 people. ...I'm just thinking that it would be a royal pain in the ass (with lots of responsibility) I just couldnt see myself doing it for $250.
From my personal standpoint, it's little aggravation as out and about every day of the week betting sports and I'm inside the LVH or a couple miles from it everyday........and precisely why I do this service for just $200 and no commissions.
Last year with 10+ people, it was a piece of cake.

I didn't know the Hilton issued 1099s instead of W2-Gs.....(do they do a 1099-Misc?)
Either way I don't think taxes should be an issue. if they issue a W2-G then the IRS has a form (Form 5754) that will allow you to split the gambling winnings so that the end recipient of the money pays their fair share of taxes. If they issue a Form 1099, then you can issue a 1099 nominee, which is basically assigning money that was issued to you to someone else.
as far as proxy, I have had pleasant dealings with both FH and Sharky99. 10% is a lot, but everyone here is getting over their heads thinking they are going to be splitting their 1st place money. If I had the choice of a $200 + 10% proxy or a $300 with no %, I will save my $100 up front as there is such a small chance that % becomes significant.
I agree with those that say getting 20+ clients and having to hound them every week must be a pain in the ass. I have had weeks where I went out late Friday and forgot to send my picks in to the proxy by their deadline....only to be getting phone calls in the morning waking me up asking for picks....having to do that every week must suck.
