LAS CRUCES -- In the wake of a weekend murder of a southeastern Arizona rancher, Gov. Bill Richardson announced Wednesday he's sending the National Guard to the international border.
The airmen and soldiers will be stationed along the entire southern border of the state, said Lt. Col. Jamison Herrera, public affairs officer for the Army and Air National Guard in New Mexico.
Herrera said they'll augment U.S. Border Patrol operations, likely by observing the border, as the National Guard has done in the past. He declined to say how many personnel will be stationed or for how long they'll stay.
"Too much information up front puts our service members in harm's way," he said.
Saturday, Robert Krentz, 58, was shot and killed as he worked on his remote ranch, west of the New Mexico border. No one has been arrested, but the trail of a suspect led authorities to the Mexican border.
The state's Bootheel region and adjacent southeastern Arizona area has seen a spike in recent months in immigrant-related crime, including vandalisms and home break-ins. Some residents have said it was only a matter of time before a tragedy like that of last weekend occurred.
Harold Kuenstler, county commissioner in Hidalgo County, which covers the Bootheel, was the agent in charge of the Border Patrol's Lordsburg patrol station until he retired in 1997. He said the recent announcement is a good step in the short-term. "When the National Guard has gone to the Bootheel, there was a decrease" in

trafficking activity, he said. "They have a high presence and visibility, and entries slowed down."
The National Guard has been called in before to help federal officers. A federal effort, called Operation Jump Start, placed guardsmen along the border in 2007 and 2008 to help watch for illegal immigrant activity and build the border fence. The aim was to augment Border Patrol operations until that agency's numbers could be built up.
Herrera said the Air and Army National Guard in New Mexico consists of about 4,000 people.
"The National Guard stands ready to help secure our borders and ensure the safety of our residents," he said.
In addition to the guardsmen, Richardson announced Tuesday that state police, Border Patrol, sheriff's department personnel numbers would increase along the border.
John Wheeler, secretary of the state Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, declined to quantify how much additional state police manpower will be assigned to the area.
"It is significant across the board," he said, noting it will "ebb and flow."
Wheeler said the state also plans to coordinate activities among all levels of law enforcement in the Bootheel area.
A public meeting was slated for Wednesday night in the tiny town of Apache, Ariz., about a dozen miles from Rodeo, N.M., -- both communities that have seen a spike in illegal activity. Field representatives of congressmen, the Border Patrol and local law enforcement were expected to attend.
Though the guardsmen are a plus, Kuenstler said long-term measures will be needed. He noted that Border Patrol agent numbers have risen sharply since he retired, and said that personnel increase must continue. But he said he also believes the agency should shift how it monitors for undocumented immigrant traffic. Now, he said he believes agents work too far away from the international border.
"If you wait for them to come 30 miles up, how many ranches have they come through?" he said. "If you're stationed 10 miles from the border, what about that rancher that has a ranch within 10 miles?"

Are We A Real Country If We Allow Illegal Aliens To Move This Freely Across The Border So That Murder Is A Constant Threat?

By Roy Beck, Updated Thursday, April 8, 2010, 7:43 AM EDT - posted on NumbersUSA</SPAN>

If Members of Congress were ranchers living along the Mexican border, how long do you think they would stay quiet about the fact that Presidents Bush, Clinton, Bush and Obama haven't felt it important to stop the illegal mass migration of foreign citizens across their lands?
How about you? Or me? Do you think we would be as uninvolved as we are in demanding that our federal government once again act as if we are a country and resume its primary constitutional duty of securing our borders to protect U.S. citizens from harm?
Talking with Americans not yet murdered along that border fills me with empathetic fear -- and rage.
Neighbors and friends and family of southeast Arizona rancher Robert Krentz have little doubt that he was murdered by an illegal alien last month -- far off the road and deep inside his 30,000-acre desert property.
I'll admit that every time I go to the border, I become passionate about the injustice of a federal government that leaves so many of our fellow citizens totally exposed to whatever the organized crime/drug syndicates of Mexico decide to send across the border.
But then I get used to my life back in Washington DC where I don't have to wonder every time I leave my house whether today will be the one where I startle the wrong illegal alien and lose my life -- on my own property.
With hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens trashing and trekking U.S. ranchers' property every year, it really is a miracle that this tragedy doesn't happen more often. Of course, the average illegal alien is not likely to be a violent person. But when the federal government allows so many to cross each day, the odds of somebody willing to murder for personal gain or out of the passion of a moment of being surprised are too great.
NumbersUSA staff get down to the border several times a year. We are well aware of the sieve that the White House and Congress want the border to be. They don't want a totally open flow of tens of millions to cross the border. But they do want a sufficient number of illegal aliens to cross to provide the cheap labor sought by campaign contributors and to satisfy the various ethnic-grievance lobbies who consider virtually any kind of border enforcement to be racist or directed at their particular national origin.
It isn't that anybody in Congress or the Administration wants any American to die. But the rate of deaths is low enough thus far to be an acceptable collateral damage of sieve-border policies that serve the political interests of the majority of officials in Washington.
Percentages don't mean much if you are the one facing the gun. The death rate was 100% for Robert Krentz. The rate of death was overwhelming for his family, his neighbors, his fellow ranchers all up and down the border.
But to Congress and the Administration, Krentz' death was a PR distraction that nonetheless was part of an acceptable death rate.
Not unless Members of Congress -- or the readers of this blog, for that matter -- can put themselves into the shoes of the ranchers along the border are we likely to really insist on doing something about the fact that our country long ago gave up on the idea that we have a true southern border. That means that Washington and even most of us regard Krentz' death as part of a low-enough rate to be an acceptable collateral damage -- and that all Americans regard it as acceptable that so many of our fellow U.S. citizens along the border live in Wild West conditions in which every day on their property is a game of deadly roulette. They probably will be back at supper alive. But there is always that chance . . .
Would any Member of Congress be willing to live with that threat?
Ranchers encounter illegal aliens on their property on a weekly basis. They constantly find themselves in trucks, ATVs and on horses rounding a hill or a grove of trees and staring face to face with a crowd of foreign citizens packing their drugs in exchange for a guided tour to take a U.S. job away from a U.S. worker.
The supporters of massive importation of foreign workers responded almost immediately to Robert Krentz's death by trying to use it to support "comprehensive immigration reform" (amnesty). He wouldn't have been murdered if the U.S. would just allow foreign workers to freely enter the U.S., they suggested.
It took the life of a caucasian rancher, an innocent soul, to garner the attention of the violence on the border. Countless individuals have been murdered at the border during the crossing by ... criminals and their sophisticated networks. . . Without legal channels for entry into the US, without reform, those who control the border are violent criminals, and the victims are innocent people, including the undocumented, who are raped, injured, and killed.
-- Angelica Salas, director of the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles, "Robert Krentz killing stokes fears of rampant illegal immigration," by Daniel B. Wood, Christian Science Monitor (31MAR10)
http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/2010/0331/Robert-Krentz-killing-stokes-fears-of-rampant-illegal-immigration
Perhaps Ms. Salas is right. Perhaps if we just allowed anybody in the world to come to the U.S. to compete with Americans for jobs, the drug cartels would have a more difficult time recruiting "mules" to pack their cargo into the U.S. and there would be somewhat less danger for the ranchers.
But are we willing to drive down the wages of every job in America and throw millions more Americans out of work as the way to lessen the danger along the border?
Or shouldn't we just do what every mature nation in history has done and commit what it takes to secure our borders -- protecting not only the physical safety of our citizens who live on the physical edge of the country but also the fiscal safety of citizens who live on the economic edge?
To the family and friends of Robert Krentz, I offer our sincerest condolences to you and also my regrets that NumbersUSA has not worked harder to expose the federal officials who consider your safety of such low importance.

As a teacher in a 99% latin school, when it's time to salute the flag the children will stand but turn their backs and not repeat the oath. When asked why, they say they are "Mexicans". There is no respect from the illegal immigrant community. They will tell you to get amnesty would be great because they could get more services us stupid Americans provide. My only exposure is to the hispanic community where I work, so I can't say if this is the attitude all over. These are not racist comments, I'm telling it like it exists. Thu 04/08 1270766686 6:44pm

It is ironic that the people who use the right of free speech to disrespect our flag and our people are the same folks who use physical intimidation to suppress opposing points of view and who promote “hate crimes” legislation so that the government can help them to do it. According to the FBI, Jose Raul Montano Jr., 35, of Weslaco, TX, was sentenced March 31 to 11 and one-half years in prison, followed by five years of supervised release. This past November, Montano pleaded guilty to charges of possession with intent to distribute cocaine; bribery; and the transporting of illegal aliens.
Investigators learned in 2008 that Montano used his authority at the U.S. Port of Entry in Brownsville, TX, to allow others to bring illegal aliens and drugs into the U.S. from Mexico. According to the FBI, Montano would tell smugglers when he would be working a particular lane at the border check and the smugglers would send drivers to that particular lane with cocaine and illegal aliens. Montano would allow the vehicles into the U.S. and later would be paid by a driver.
Montano admitted receiving bribes of $500 per vehicle since at least summer 2007, though the bribes grew to $8,000 to $10,000 per vehicle by the time he was arrested in April 2009.
“The public expects its duly sworn officers will enforce the law, not violate it,” said U.S. Attorney Jose Angel Moreno, in a written statement. “The criminal conduct of this former officer is the exception, not the rule, among law enforcement. Our office will continue to aggressively pursue the exception and applaud the rule.”

Interesting facts from another forum

The reason Mexicans are so unwelcome in the United States

is because they have too little to offer. Recent African legal immigrants have far more to contribute than Mexicans. A chart (link below) in the New York Times graphically illustrates the mediocrity of the human capital that recent Mexican immigrants (legal and whichever illegal ones the Census Bureau could find) bring.

While over 40% of recent immigrants from India have an advanced degree, only about 1% of Mexican immigrants do. Over 60% of Mexican immigrants have less than a high school diploma.

While about 20% of African immigrants work in "science, engineering, technology, or health," only about 1% of Mexicans do. Almost three times the proportion of Filipino immigrants claim to speak English "very well" as do Mexican immigrants. reason Mexicans are so unwelcome in the United States is because they have too little to offer. Americans, signs, tables, groups, leaders, and guest speakers who are racially inclusive and opposed to illegal immigration and Obama's push for Amnesty for illegal immigrants will be prominent features at many Tea Party Against Amnesty protests April 15-17.

"We are encouraging Americans coast to coast to stand up and speak out against Obama's push for Amnesty for illegal aliens and the President's refusal to send the National Guard to the border to defend American jobs, wages, property, health and lives," said William Gheen President of ALIPAC.

Over 7,000 people have signed up to show their support and over 35 event organizers have asked to be listed at www.AgainstAmnesty.comEvents listed on the website have confirmed that speakers, signs, and tables that oppose illegal immigration and Amnesty will be present at their events. While new events and supporters are added each day, more of the hundreds of Tea Party events that are not listed are expected to have Americans protesting illegal immigration as well.

ALIPAC and a coalition of over 25 Border Security groups helped the success of the Tea Party movement by joining a coalition to support events nationally in April and July of 2009. The first round of Tea Party Against Amnesty events held in over 50 cities and towns on November 14, 2009 succeeded in pushing Congressman Guitierezz's plans to file his Amnesty bill back into December of last year thus destroying almost any chance of HR (add bill number) passing.

Congressman Tom Tancredo and William Gheen will be guest speakers at numerous Tea Party events along with other well known Amnesty opponents.

Tancredo will be a guest speaker at the Tea Party in Tempe, Arizona to be held on Thursday, April 15, 4:30-8:30pm in the Tempe Diablo Baseball Stadium. He will then fly to South Carolina, where he will be speaker at another large Tea Party in Greenville, SC on Saturday April 17, 1-5pm. The South Carolina event will be behind the Bi Lo Center on 600 East North Street.

Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio is expected to speak at the Tea Party held April 15, 1045 E Juniper Rd. at Freestone Park in Gilbert, Arizona.

Americans for Legal Immigration PAC's President, William Gheen will address a crowd expected to exceed 10,000 in Houston, Texas at the Sam Houston Race Track on April 15, 5-8PM. He will then fly to Murfreesboro, TN to address thousands gathered for a Tea Party on Friday, April 16, 5-7pm at 109 N. Maple Street on Murfreesboro's historic downtown Square. Then William will fly to Greenville, South Carolina to join Congressman Tom Tancredo to speak at the Bi Lo Center 1-5PM on April 17.

William Gheen will be video blogging during his travels and conducting talk radio show interviews every step of the way.

"My goal is to awaken, rally, and organize Americans of every race, party, and walk of life who represent the majority of our citizens who oppose illegal immigration and this kind of Amnesty legislation touted by Republicans and Democrats who have betrayed the American public," said William Gheen. "There's a huge political revolution brewing in America today, as our abused citizenry organizes to restore America to We The People."

Many analysts and pundits agree that the Tea Party movement is yet another manifestation of a rising political revolution that seeks to change Washington, DC and remove corrupt incumbent Democrats and Republicans. GOP operatives have begun spending millions of dollars attempting to take control of the Tea Party movement to focus it on finite and ineffectual generalities such as taxation, smaller government, and "free markets".

"Illegal aliens and their supporters are marching across America making demands of us. Now it is time for Americans to demand that our existing border and immigration laws are enforced, while we still have a country," said William Gheen. "Over 90% of the Tea Party folks, and over 80% of all Americans want our borders secured and our immigration laws enforced now!"

I need your help to prevent an extreme anti-English advocate from becoming a member of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. President Obama announced his intention to nominate Marisa Demeo to be an Associate Judge on The Superior Court of the District of Columbia, in our nation's capital. Since this is a federal court Ms. Demeo must be approved by the Senate before she is appointed to this position.
Marisa Demeo has clearly demonstrated by her actions that she lies outside the mainstream of American political thought and thus, is not suitable for a position on the federal judiciary.
Before accepting her current position as magistrate judge in the Superior Court Criminal Division, Marisa Demeo was a long time lawyer and lobbyist for the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund (MALDEF). During her tenure as regional counsel for MALDEF Marisa Demeo consistently trumpeted the radical views of the anti-English multicultural lobby. For example, Ms. Demeo announced her opposition to making English the official language of the United States. Moreover, she supported mandatory in-state tuition for illegal aliens and called for a general amnesty for all illegal's currently residing in the United States. Such views clearly show that Marisa Demeo has an agenda that is truly out of touch with mainstream America.

Over the weekend, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said, "I’ve got 59 Democratic senators, all but 3 would support [amnesty]...." If this is true, it means that Sen. Reid is dangerously close to having enough votes (60) to pass a mass amnesty for illegal aliens. Democratic Senators must hear from Americans who oppose amnesty.

Please call Democratic Senators from your state (and states near you) and urge them to oppose Sen. Read's amnesty push.

Please read carefully and respond fervently and efficiently.

A massive amount of new support is rushing into our operations. We have never seen this many new people sign up in our five year history. We want to give a special welcome to all of the new folks who have joined our email alert lists and taken interest of our Tea Party Against Amnesty events April 15-17.

We also want to thank all of the NumbersUSA supporters who have signed up to support this effort. We hope all of our supporters will sign up at and support via www.NumbersUSA.com

Some of our diverse ALIPAC supporters are not fans of the Tea Party movement, however, they understand that 90% of Tea Party supporters oppose illegal immigration and amnesty with us. Most understand that we need broad coalitions to stop amnesty and reverse illegal immigration.

Some, unfortunately, are buying into the massive negative propaganda assault on the Tea Party movement. All we will say about that right now is that the Tea Party folks are not violent and not racist. They are being attacked in the same way our Border Security Movement has been attacked. They are being attacked because the powers that favor elite rule in America want to stop and divert the political revolution that is growing in America today.

If anyone reading this has any doubts about the Tea Party movement, you should stop listening to CNN and MSNBC and actually go to one of these events and talk with the people there to understand the realities vs. the propaganda.

ALIPAC is proud to stand with other Americans who share our cause of border security and enforcement of our immigration laws, and we will stand up against those who want to assault free speech and freedom of assembly for Americans.

PLEASE TAKE IMMEDIATE ACTION.

Step 1:Locate the Tea Party Against Amnesty event we are supporting because opposition to illegal immigration and amnesty will be a prominent issue. You can find the nearest event at www.AgainstAmnesty.comWe will continue adding new events through the night.

Step 2:If you cannot locate a Tea Party Against Amnesty that you can reach at www.AgainstAmnesty.com, then visit these websites to locate the Tea Party nearest you if you must, but remember there is no assurance illegal immigration will be opposed at the events not on our maps. More events found at...

http://taxdayteaparty.com/directory/
http://www.teapartypatriots.org/Today.aspx?date=4/15/2010
http://teapartypatriots.ning.com/

Step 3:Make sure you are signed up as a supporter and use the 'Tell A Friend About Us' feature on the right of the homepage to tell all of your contacts to visit www.AgainstAmnesty.comto sign up and participate. You can also make posts on other websites, forward emails, and use Facebook, Myspace, and Twitter to help us spread the word. Please do all you can to get the numbers as high as you can at www.AgainstAmnesty.com

Step 4:Call friends and neighbors and take them with you, if you can. Many of the folks attending Tea Party events are invited and brought by word of mouth and personal invitations.

Step 5:Let the media and nation see many of our signs at events all across America in the next few days. Make signs that express your opposition to illegal immigration and amnesty in racially inclusive and non-offensive ways. Please do not use racially-charged language or Mexican imagery. Tea Party organizers love people to bring lots of big good signs, so put your message on a sign and hold it high!

Here are some sign suggestions, we even have some you can print out online.

"Stop and Reverse Illegal Immigration"
"No Graham, No Schumer, No McCain, No Amnesty!"
"Hayworth for Senate!"
"Enforcement Instead of Amnesty"
"No Comprehensive Immigration Reform Amnesty"

Here are some more sign suggestions that you can print up online. Make your own sign, or ask a friend to make one, or call up a local printer and copy shop and order what you want.

More Sign Suggestions

Step 6:Consider printing out fliers from ALIPAC and NumbersUSA to hand out to others at Tea Party events. These are easy to print at home and can be copied inexpensively in large numbers. Here are the three fliers we want distributed as much as possible at Tea Party events across America on April 15-17

ALIPAC's Tax Day Tea Party Handout

ALIPAC's Recruitment Flier

NumbersUSA Taxpayer and Illegal Immigration Flier
http://www.numbersusa.com/content/files/Immigration_Burdens_Taxpayers.pdf

Please speak to others at the events, hand them fliers, and encourage them to stand up against illegal immigration and amnesty by joining ALIPAC and NumbersUSA. Tell them to visit us online and sign up!

Step 7:Many of the Tea Party organizers are looking for speakers and tables. If you would like to speak out against illegal immigration and amnesty in a racially inclusive way or if you would like to set up a table for ALIPAC and get people to sign up with their names and e-mails at your table, please contact event organizers to offer to do that via www.AgainstAmnesty.com.You can also contact WilliamG@alipac.usfor suggestions and assistance, if you want to speak out or run a table for us.

We want to thank each of you for making the effort to make our Tea Party Against Amnesty effort a success.

Remember that ALIPAC's President, William Gheen, will be speaking in Houston, TX (April 15), Murfreesboro, TN (April 16), and Greenville, SC (April 17). Our movement's friends and allies like Congressman Tom Tancredo, Jerome Corsi, Sheriff Joe Arpaio, J.D. Hayworth, and NumbersUSA all will be speaking at different locations during these events.

It's time to take to the streets and speak out loudly America!

PS: Many folks have asked why we are not listing or supporting the Tea Party march in Washington D.C. on April 15. We are not supporting that event because many of the organizers of the D.C. event support Comprehensive Immigration Reform Amnesty and Open Borders, and they do not want opposition to illegal immigration to be a prominent issue at their D.C. march. Since ALIPAC opposes illegal immigration, Comprehensive Amnesty, and open borders, we are focusing our efforts on the local Tea Party events.

If anyone has any questions, suggestions, comments, for feedback, please use our activist link here...

Peter DeFazio, D-OR, took his efforts to the House floor.
On Wednesday, the chairman of the House Subcommittee on Highways and Transit sent off a letter that he spearheaded calling for the removal of the cross-border trucking provision from the North American Free Trade Agreement. The letter gained bipartisan support with 77 members of the House of Representatives signing on.
To read more about the letter, click here.
DeFazio followed up the letter with a statement he delivered to members of the House of Representatives on Wednesday afternoon.
The congressman challenged the Obama administration’s apparent refusal to challenge retaliatory tariffs put in place by the Mexico government following the closing of a cross-border pilot program initiated by the Bush administration.
“The Obama administration has steadfastly refused to contest the improper and excessive tariffs of $2.4 billion levied by Mexico because Congress terminated the cross-border trucking program due to serious safety concerns,” he told members of the House.
DeFazio reviewed the numerous safety concerns Congress had when members voted to pull the plug on the cross-border program – and he emphasized that the Mexican government has yet to do anything about them.
“There is no drug testing in Mexico. There are no hours-of-service requirements in Mexico. There are no meaningful commercial driver’s licenses issued in Mexico to know what the record of these drivers are,” he said.
The sole argument for opening the border to long-haul trucks from Mexico, apparently ignoring the safety and security concerns raised by members of Congress and highway users, centers on a cross-border trucking provision in NAFTA.
DeFazio and the other lawmakers pointed out in the letter that there is another option – renegotiate NAFTA. And, he pushed for more support of that option in his comments to the members of the House.
“They say they have no alternative, their hands are tied by NAFTA. Well, there is an alternative. And today I was joined in a letter to the president by 78 members of Congress, bipartisan, saying renegotiate that one minor section of NAFTA that has triggered this dispute. Keep the current system,” DeFazio told lawmakers.
Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood told Land Line Now this past week that an announcement on another cross-border trucking program would be coming soon.
Monday, the administration met with Mexican officials and an announcement on a cross-border program is expected when the president of Mexico, Felipe Calderón, visits in May and is scheduled to address a joint session of Congress. http://www.landlinemag.com/todays_news/Daily/2010/Apr10/041210/041510-01.htm

</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE></CENTER> DEAR JIM,
It's now or never in the U.S. Senate.
"We're going to come back, we're going to have comprehensive immigration reform now," Sen. Reid declared over the weekend.
Yesterday, the Senate returned to Washington, and staffers were scrambling to fulfill Reid's promise that an Amnesty is the next big push.
Amnesty should be too unpopular for Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) and Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) to tackle in an election year.
After all, a CNN poll released yesterday showed that 66% of Americans do not want the path to citizenship made easier for illegal aliens. According to the poll, only four in ten Democrats want those changes!
So why would Democratic leaders in Congress want to push amnesty, an extremely unpopular measure, now?
Bottom line is this: Reid knows the upcoming election is shaping up very badly for his party. He may lose his majority in the Senate. He very well may lose his own re-election bid. He's polling way behind in Nevada. He's almost out of tricks.
For Reid, passing an Amnesty bill is literally Now or Never! He wants to push through an amnesty now when he may have the votes to overcome a filibuster. And he must be stopped.
We must raise $116,663 by midnight tomorrow. Every dollar will help fight against amnesty!

</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE></CENTER>Last weekend, raucous illegal alien rallies were held in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and other cities. More are scheduled in Dallas and New York. This is being done with the $30 million raised by our opposition to fund "comprehensive immigration reform."
At a rally of illegal aliens and their supporters in Las Vegas Saturday, Reid said he believed he already had 56 Democratic votes for an Amnesty bill, just short of the 60 needed. And that doesn't count Sen. Lindsay Graham and other Republicans generally favorable to Amnesty.
Our opponents are desperate. I would just say that Reid is a blowhard politician who is obviously pandering to a certain crowd. But let's not make the mistake of taking this man too lightly. After all, he just succeeded in passing another pretty unpopular bill when everyone said it could not be done.
Obviously, Sen. Reid believes that turning 12 - 20 million illegal aliens into voters will help solidify his lock on power. It will shore him up, if you will.
Jim, is this what you want? Will we stand by and be "rolled" by a desperate politico willing to trade America's future for another brief shot at power? No. NO. NO!!!
Please help us! Our goal is $116,663 by midnight tomorrow.
Our Campaign to S.T.O.P. Amnesty continues.
After you make a donation, I need you to go immediately to your NumbersUSA Action Board to start bombarding your Senators with phone calls and hitting them hard with faxes.
I'm not giving you specific links to the faxes and calls on this email because they vary greatly from state to state. Obviously, our approach needs to be tailored for each Senator.
We can't afford to lose even a single vote. Thanks to NumbersUSA's army of activist members, not one amnesty has passed Congress in 10 years (after 6 the previous decade). But if we stand idly by, Harry Reid will ram this amnesty down our throats and undue everything we've worked for.
Make the donation. Go to the Action Board. Get involved!
Jim, I agree with Sen. Reid on just one thing. It is truly Now or Never!

Reid from bringing his amnesty to a vote.

YOU ARE DOING A GREAT JOB THIS WEEK -- KEEP IT UP FRIDAY!

Oh, my, are there a lot of Senators who are ticked off at Senate Majority Leader Reid for mouthing off last Saturday that he had 56 Democrats ready to vote for a comprehensive amnesty, just 4 short of enough to pass it.

(That meant only 3 of the 59 Senators in the Democratic Caucus are resisting the amnesty.)

You responded to my colleague Jim Robb's action request earlier this week with a torrent of phone calls and faxes to the 14 Democrats who voted NO on the Bush/McCain/Kennedy amnesty in June of 2007. After all, Reid's claim basically meant that 11 of the 14 have switched to PRO-amnesty positions.

The staffers of these 14 were mostly pretty hostile to your phone calls. Several offices just turned their phones off and switched them to recordings that said they were NOT taking messages.

Many of these Democratic staffers demanded to know of NumbersUSA activists who was spreading these rumors that their bosses had become pro-amnesty.

"Why, that would be your Majority Leader, Senator Reid," you told the staffers.

I'm pretty sure that a number of these 14 Democratic Senators let Sen. Reid know that they weren't one bit happy with him for putting them on the spot like that.

REID BACKS OFF HIS TIMETABLE

By today, Reid has backed off considerably from his promises on Saturday to a few thousand illegal aliens and their supporters in Nevada that the Senate would come back from Easter recess to immediately start work on passing a comprehensive amnesty.

After being hammered when he got back to Washington, Reid now says he meant he planned to pass the amnesty after the NEXT recess -- over Memorial Day.

I have to believe that the outrage from all of you all week helped push his deadline back at least a month.

Nonetheless, Reid is still sticking with his 56 Democrats-in-the-amnesty-bag claim.

DEMOCRATS STAYING 'NO' ON AMNESTY?

The pro-amnesty websites are saying they believe the 3 Democrats who aren't being counted by Reid as pro-amnesty are:
Byrd of West Virginia
Nelson of Nebraska
Dorgan of North Dakota

I would tend to agree that those are the three who have shown the strongest opposition in the past to rewarding millions of illegal aliens with permanent work permits while forcing millions of American workers to remain unemployed.

DEMOCRATS WHO REID SAYS SWITCHED TO 'YES' ON AMNESTY?

So, for Sen. Reid to be telling the truth about 56 Democrats backing his amnesty, the following 11 Democrats would have to have changed from NO on amnesty in 2007 to YES on amnesty in 2010 -- during 10% unemployment:

Arkansas -- Sen. Pryor
Indiana -- Sen. Bayh
Louisiana -- Sen. Landrieu
Michigan -- Sen. Stabenow
Missouri -- Sen. McCaskill
Montana -- Sen. Baucus
Montana -- Sen. Tester
New Mexico -- Sen. Bingaman
Ohio -- Sen. Sherrod Brown
Vermont -- Sen. Sanders (Independent)
West Virginia -- Sen. Rockefeller

Here's the deal, folks. Either Sen. Reid was just making things up when he claimed he had commitments from 56 Democrats, or a lot of these offices are lying to their constituents.

At this point, your reports back to us provide what seem to be unequivocal opposition to an amnesty from staffers of Sen. Baucus and Sen. Brown. Do you in Montana and Ohio trust that?

ACTION: Now is not the time to let up on the pressure on the 11 Senators listed above. Phone them until you get flat promises that they will not vote for "comprehensive immigration reform" that legalizes illegal aliens this year.

202-224-3121 is the switchboard number. Or check your Action Board for phone notes and a place to send us notes from your phone call. You can also find there notes from people who have already called these Senators.

All of these 11 Senators believed in 2007 either that an amnesty was bad policy or that they needed to bend to the will of their constituents who opposed amnesty.

Sen. Reid is indicating that every one of these has changed his/her mind and turned against you and the majority of voters in their states.

Before Reid gets the nerve to bring this amnesty to a vote, make these 11 Senators account for themselves before the voters of your state. Exactly what have they promised Reid?

REID SAYS ALL THESE NEW DEMOCRATIC SENATORS ARE SUPPORTING AN AMNESTY?

Reid's claim of 56 Democratic votes for an amnesty means that every single new Democrat added to the Senate after 2007 is pledged to an amnesty.

That would be:

Alaska -- Mark Begich
Colorado -- Michael Bennet
Colorado -- Mark Udall
Delaware -- Ted Kaufman
Illinois -- Roland Burris
New Hampshire -- Jeanne Shaheen
New Mexico -- Tom Udall
New York -- Kirsten Gillibrand
Jeff Merkley (Oregon)
Virginia -- Mark Warner

Is the image that these freshmen want to portray to their voters one of putting illegal aliens at the front of the jobs line and unemployed U.S. citizens at the back of the line?

ACTION: Force these Senators to declare who they are backing: Illegal aliens or unemployed Americans. Phone them.

Let's put an end to this constant talk of passing an amnesty. Let's find at least 6, and maybe 10, Democrats who say they don't plan to vote for an amnesty this year. Since Reid says he can't find a second Republican (after Sen. Lindsay Graham of South Carolina) to join in the amnesty push, he may just have to give up on the amnesty if several more Democrats say they won't go along with him.

Make it immediately clear that you are calling because Sen. Reid has indicated that Sen. XMXMXM has committed to vote YES on the comprehensive amnesty.

Official H.R. 1868 cosponsor list

A new ABC story highlights the abuse of Birthright Citizenship and the growing popularity of "Birth Tourism" among foreign visitors. U.S. hotels are offering birth packages that offer expecting mothers a hotel suite for two months so they can give birth in the United States, awarding automatic citizenship to their newborn child.
For $7,750 a month, a mother gets a one-bedroom suite, airport transfer, baby cradle and a gift set at the Marmara Manhattan - a Turkish-owned luxury hotel in New York City.
For mothers who take advantage of the package, their child receives the full benefits of U.S. citizenship, including unlimited travel to the United States, educational benefits, and the ability to settle here as an adult.
"We found a company on the Internet and decided to go to Austin [Texas] for our child's birth," Turkish mother Selin Burcuoglu told Istanbul's Hurriyet Daily News. "I don't want [my daughter] to deal with visa issues. American citizenship has so many advantages."
According to the National Center for Health Statistics, U.S. births to non-resident mothers rose by 53% from 2000-2006. The Center says 7,670 children of the 4.2 million born in the United States in 2006 were born to non-resident mothers (.18%). Many of the mothers came from Mexico, South Korea and China, but one estimate says that up to 12,000 children from Turkey have been born in the United States since 2003.
ABC's report said that the State Department and Department of Homeland Security have no specific regulations preventing pregnant mothers from entering the United States. They can bar entrance, however, if they believe the mother is coming for free health care.
"When determining if an individual will be allowed to enter the U.S., Customs and Border Protection officers take into consideration the date the child is due for delivery and the length of time the individual intends to stay in the U.S.," a Department of Homeland Security spokesman told ABC News.
The United States is one of the few remaining developed nations to grant automatic citizenship to all newborns. (View a list of nations that offer birthright citizenship.)
There are several pieces of proposed legislation in Congress that would require at least one parent to be a U.S. citizen or a legal permanent resident for the newborn to receive citizenship, including Rep. Gary Miller's (R-Calif.) LEAVE Act.
“The Congress shall have power to enforce, by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article,” Rep. Miller told Fox News earlier today.
Please click here to send a fax and urge your Members of Congress to support legislation ending birthright citizenship.

The child born with in the borders of the U.S. should automatically have a birth certificate from the country the parents are from. No child should automatically be a citizen of the U.S. unless the both parents are citizens of the U.S. Fri 04/16 1271453759 5:35pm

My wife is a nurse working in an OBGYN clinic in downtown Boston. At least once a week a patient will come in "dressed to the nines", speaking very little English and 9 months pregnant and getting what my wife calls the "million dollar patient work up" compliments of the tax payers of the Commonwealth of MA. Through our tax payer funded interpreter my wife will invariably learn that she is staying with her husband in some posh downtown Boston hotel while they are on "vacation". On more than one occasion, they didn't even stop at the hotel to drop off their luggage, but instead came to the clinic first. They mostly come from Egypt. Fri 04/16 1271437092 12:58pm

Charles3427 of NC – The majority of US citizens gained citizenship not because of where they happened to be born but because their parents were US citizens. Even if the government tried to protect our border from illegal intrusion, many non-citizens (tourists, students, etc) would still be dropping babies within our borders. The issue is whether these babies should be regarded as US citizens or citizens of the parents’ countries. By granting citizenship to these newborns, we encourage foreigners to do an end-run around our immigration laws. The fact that their children were not complicit in this treachery should not entitle them to benefit from it. We could argue, with equal validity, that the children of convicted criminals who are sent to jail should receive a government benefit to compensate them for the loss of a parent – after all, it wasn’t their fault. It is not as though we would be sending these children to some Stalinist gulag, we would simply be sending them to their home countries. As for Mexico, it is inconceivable that they would do anything to discourage illegal immigration because it enables them to shed their surplus population and generate billions of dollars in remittances annually. I am really torn on this one. While in general, I believe birthright citizenship should be legal. After all, that is why nearly every U.S. resident has gained citizenship. However, folks who enter our country illegally are, I guess another story. However, here is my dilemma, these children do not choose to be born weather in the U.S. or anywhere. I figure the only constitutionally correct way to handle this problem is to prevent unlawful entry into the U.S. in the first place. I think we should be turning people back at the border making them go back THE VERY SAME WAY THE CAME, ALL THE TIME, EVERY TIME, PERIOD! Their actions are the same as piracy and should be treated as such. They should be turned around at the boarder and if necessary, at gunpoint. And if they do not turn back, then shot, after all this is how we [handle] piracy. In fact, if I am not mistaken, it is lawfully acceptable to shoot a person while he/she is in the act of committing felony burglary or car jacking. Also, the Mexican government should be guarding there own boarders as well and turning back, arresting, and if necessary neutralizing persons unlawfully crossing of their boarders regardless the direction of unlawful crossing. The 14th amendment has been interpreted like lawyers see fit, includes the Supreme Court. To me the amendment does not say EVERYONE gets citizenship.....just that no one in our "bleeding hearts" society has the guts to call it as it is.........oh well in another 20, 30 years it won't really matter. The U.S. won't be so wonderful, it will join the ranks of the others having an overabundance of poor. Pitiful.... Fri 04/16 1271412820 6:13am (

This is not news. I remember reading a magazine article about 10 years ago about birth tourism from South Korea This racket has been going on for decades. However, I am genuinely surprised to learn that a major broadcast network chose to cover it. Either they are running out of "news" or they have discovered that there is a huge market for common sense outside the beltway. Thu 04/15 1271363481 4:31pm

OMG We need to do something-------------------and FAST. Our country is so out of whack when it comes to birthright citizenships. Enought already. We need to join the other countries that, no longer, do this. Thu 04/15 1271353043 1:37pm
