Can I depend on you to drive home an essential environmental reality in the offices of your 3 Members of Congress?

ACTION: Send a fax telling them that U.S. environmental sustainability is impossible without reductions in overall immigration numbers.

What does sustainability mean? That the way we live today will not prevent our grandchildren from enjoying the same things we enjoy. The Golden Rule is at the heart of it.

Sustainability was the big idea 40 years ago when much of the nation's attention was drawn to the events and news of the first Earth Day. I was a cub newspaper reporter covering the events. And I remember well that an important theme in 1970 was that sustainability required the U.S. to begin to stabilize its population after having added the SECOND 100 million in just 55 years.

Well, now we've added the THIRD 100 million in less than the 40 years since that first Earth Day and we're on pace to add the FOURTH 100 million even faster!

Because of this massive population explosion, progress on environmental quality in recent years has stalled. The Chesapeake Bay, for example, is just about as near death today as it was in 1970.

And around 1 MILLION acres of natural habitat and farmland are cleared, scraped and deveoped each year just to accommodate this rapid population growth.

Nearly all of the population growth is caused by the increases in immigration that Congress ordered or allowed since 1970. For every restriction and cost that the government has put on us since then to improve environmental quality, it has negated part or all of the benefits by forcing high population growth through radically increased immigration numbers.

That is why the Father of Earth Day, Sen. Gaylord Nelson (D-Wis.), made U.S. population stabilization such an important part of the teaching back in 1970 and why he spent much of the last 20 years warning of the environmental dangers of continuing our high-immigration policies.

Even Pres. Clinton's Population and Consumption Task Force concluded in 1996 that the immigration increases since the first Earth Day had to be rolled back.

The Task Force was a bit nervous about taking on the immigration issues (just like most environmentalists are):

"As a matter of public debate, immigration is a sensitive and explosive issue, and both legal and illegal immigration must be addressed with great sensitivity and care in order to advance the debate. We acknowledge these impediments to easy and informal dialogue, and we urge that participants take appropriate care so that a reasoned discussion of immigration and the American future can begin."

But then Pres. Clinton's Task Force stated forcefully:

"We believe that reducing current immigration levels is a necessary part of working toward sustainability in the United States."

Pres. Clinton had established the Task Force in 1993 to find ways "to bring people together to meet the needs of the present without jeopardizing the future."

Have you noticed that I have been quoting only Democrats?

If you are represented by Democrats in Congress, this is an especially good time to call on them to be true to their Party's long-standing "stated" commitment to environmental sustainability.

Of course, most of them don't want to deal with the inconvenient truth that the Democratic Party's insistence on high immigration to drive massive U.S. population growth is at odds with decades of acknowledgements that these policies simply cannot continue if we hope to leave any kind of natural environmental legacy to our grandchildren.

President Carter in 1977 commissioned a Global 2000 Report which eventually concluded that the "United States should: Develop a U.S. national population policy that includes attention to issues such as population stabilization ... just, consistent and workable immigration laws."

Without all the increases in immigration, our communities would have around 250 million inhabitants right now, with little likelihood of ever going over 265 million.

Instead, because of a quadrupling in legal immigration numbers, we have more than 310 million inhabitants and are on a trajectory to cross 600 million well before the end of this century!

Obviously, the first Earth Day vision was for an America greatly different than the one we occupy today. And congressional immigration policies are the main reason that bright vision is now so murky.

This 40th anniversary is not a time of celebration but of deep sadness for the promise that was lost.

As Sen. Nelson said on the 32nd anniversary just a few years before his death:

"We are preparing to celebrate the 32nd Earth Day just after the Census Bureau has announced that far from winding down in the 1990s, U.S. population growth boomed at its highest level in the nation's history! Not even the peak of the Baby Boom in the 1950s added as many people!

"This new population boom represents a PROFOUND FAILURE in our nation's pursuit of environmental quality. Since 1970, another 80 million people have been added to the country.

"Every environmental goal has been delayed because of this failure."

And Sen. Nelson never flinched from naming who had caused the failure: Congress, because of its immigration policies.

I know from past experiences that many NumbersUSA members, especially in the West, do not think so kindly toward Sen. Nelson because he was the father of the Wilderness Act which they believe unfairly took huge swaths of land out of private control and use.

Our membership is divided about a lot of environmental matters. NumbersUSA does not take a position on any environmental issue other than immigration's role. Whatever your stance on various governmental efforts to combat environmental problems, we all can be united in the understanding that immigration is creating the double whammy of creating great pressures for more and more regulation to control environmental consequences while negating any positive effects.

Let's require our Members of Congress to promise not to force the FOURTH 100 million on us and our children and grandchildren.

THANKS,

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer officially signed S.B.1070 into law this afternoon. The bill is the nation's toughest immigration enforcement bill, making it a crime in Arizona to be in the country illegally and cracking down on the hiring of day laborers and the transportation of illegal aliens.
Criticized by many, the bill is a perfect example of the frustration on the state level of the federal government's refusal to secure the borders and enforce the immigration laws already on the books.
A special thanks go out to our 30,066 Arizona activists who have been calling and faxing the Governor's office all week! The bill gained national attention when it received full approval from the state legislature earlier this week, but the pressure of our Arizona activists neutralized the national effort from the pro-amnesty, open-borders supporters.
Pres. Obama has already criticized the Arizona bill, and the Hispanic House Leadership is urging him to block the bill. In the coming weeks, we'll need the entire nation to ensure the law goes into full effect. Keep checking your Action Board for any new faxes and/or phone notes.
Thanks,
Chris Chmielenski

This Arizona bill is repugnant and fascist.
This is a "must read", all the way through !!!

1. If you migrate to this county, you must speak the native language

2. You have to be a professional or an investor. No unskilled workers
allowed.

3. There will be no special bilingual programs in the schools, no
special ballots for elections, all government business will be
conducted
in our language.

4. Foreigners will NOT have the right to vote no matter how long they
are here.

5 Foreigners will NEVER be able to hold political office.

6. Foreigners will not be a burden to the taxpayers. No welfare, no
food
stamps, no health care, or other government assistance programs.

7. Foreigners can invest in this country, but it must be an amount
equal to 40,000 times the daily minimum wage.

8. If foreigners do come and want to buy land that will be okay, BUT
options will be restricted. You are not allowed waterfront property.
That is reserved for citizens naturally born into this country.

9. Foreigners may not protest; no demonstrations, no waving a foreign
flag, no political organizing, no badmouthing our president or his
policies, if you do you will be sent home.

10. If you do come to this country illegally, you will be hunted down
and sent straight to jail.

Harsh, you say? The above laws belong to the immigration laws of
MEXICO!

Comment: This is from a Hispanic who lives in Texas. He's had a column
in the Fort Worth Star Telegram and as you can see, expresses himself very well.

ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL

I can almost assure you that everyone who is a true American was sickened
when you saw multitudes of protesters carrying Mexican flags protesting
the new Immigration Reform Bill in the Senate. This display of Mexican flags
should give you a heads up on where these protesters allegiance lies.
Their hearts are in Mexico and their bellies are in the United States.

As an American of Mexican Heritage I want to set the record straight.
American Hispanics are not all thrilled with illegal immigration. I, for
more than 20 years, tried desperately to bring this national debacle to
the attention of the American people. I had the privilege of writing for
several newspapers, appeared on national and local TV and radio
programs, and was asked by many political groups to address this serious problem
affecting my former community (north Fort Worth), city, state, and our
country. Many will question how I can speak on this subject with some
authority. My simple answer is: I lived with the problem! Trust me, it
was no picnic. Never in my life (I'm 68) had I witnessed the
lawlessness, the deterioration of my community, and the black market criminal
underground activities attributed to the influx of illegal immigrants.

To add injury to insult, politicians soon caved in to the many demands
of illegal immigrants. Notably: bilingual education, bilingual ballots,
welfare aid, free medical care, etc. Through all this national disgrace
allowed by our politicians, have you all noticed that no one ever blames
the useless, corrupt, and disgraceful government of Mexico? In
contrast, they lambaste and criticize our country. How does that grab you?

When I addressed the dangers of our porous border between Mexico and the
United States, and the lax security of our nation, no one paid
attention. As I observed the situation, the problem was perceived to be between
American Hispanic communities and illegal immigrants. White Americans, it
seemed, assumed that the problem was not theirs to deal with. In other
words they were asleep at the wheel. However, 9-11 soon woke them up.
Lets be honest with each other here, white Americans vote in far larger
numbers than Hispanics do. And most politicians (Democrats and Republicans) in
our city, state, and federal governments are white. Thus, who is more suited
to fix this national disaster? I'm sure most of you know what the answer
is.

In summation, I'm pleading with white American voters to join me in
sending our politicians (Democrats and Republicans) a strong message that we will
not tolerate illegal immigrants telling us how to make government policy
that will make it easier for them to break our laws. Hope you will join
me in this endeavor in our upcoming elections.

Please pass this on...it just might get to the other Veterans and VFW,
American Legions and to those that truly believe that we will not give
our country away ! http://msgboard.snopes.com/message/ultimatebb.php?/ubb/get_topic/f/9/t/002111/p/1.html

Great website. I am posting the link in other illegal immigration forums.

I live in AZ, so I am celebrating SB1070. There is a lot of false propaganda about it from the open borders lobby. Just wish there would be a big pro-SB1070 demonstration in Phoenix.

Thanks for your many informative posts on this issue, Roadreeler57.

Roy Beck ALMOST gets fair mainstream media coverage.

What I Told CBS News Tonight About Arizona Law -- It's About Jobs

By Roy Beck, Updated Saturday, April 24, 2010, 6:56 PM EDT - posted on NumbersUSA</SPAN>
picture-21.jpg
I just came back from taping an interview for the national CBS nightly news regarding the new Arizona immigration-enforcement law.
My main point was that states are going to keep passing laws like these as long as the federal government allows 7 million illegal aliens to continue to hold construction, manufacturing, service and transportation jobs and keep millions of Americans unemployed.
I was asked about all the charges that the new law will create discrimination against people who look foreign.
My response was that the failure to push illegal aliens out of jobs and this country has created huge discrimination against the most vulnerable members of our society, disproportionately against Black Americans, Hispanic Americans and immigrants who are here legally. Laws like the one Arizona just passed will disproportionately help U.S. minorities, including legal immigrants.
These states are in the third year of a jobs depression. Immigration laws should be protecting Americans from being out of work because of foreign workers.
Instead, the federal government has refused to act. And the President of the United States repeatedly takes the side of the illegal aliens (and the companies that hire them) against the interests of unemployed Americans. In response to the Arizona law, Pres. Obama called again for giving 7 million illegal workers permanent work permits.
I told CBS that NumbersUSA is working with state legislators and activist groups across the country to enact laws like the ones passed in Arizona.
Take a look at our map of states passing laws on workplace enforcement. Look here for other state enforcement actions.
Thank Gov. Brewer by sending her a message through the webform on her website - http://azgovernor.gov/Contact.asp

(8 p.m. Saturday) Well, I got bumped from the CBS report. It wasn't a bad job of reporting, but a viewer would have no idea from the report that immigration laws are related to jobs and protection of American workers.
For the most part, the networks and national print publications continue their taboo on letting the two subjects be connected in the same reports.
The basic storyline is that people insist on immigration enforcement because they don't like the people who are illegal aliens. Thus, laws like Arizona's new one tend to be seen as punitive, when the laws really are compassionate -- compassionate toward all the current victims of illegal immigration.

Arizona May Just Have It RightThere is an American Indian adage which says, “Don’t Judge another until You Have Walked a Mile in Their Moccasins”! Those who don’t live in a border state have no clue (unless they have studied and experienced the issue) what it is to live, compete with or witness how American values and culture are being destroyed by the mass migration of illegal foreign nationals (illegal aliens). Arizona is on the front line of illegal immigration….so we better pay attention to them! Since the Clinton Administration illegal immigration has been allowed to flourish in this nation. Why, cheap labor for business! As a result if the illegal alien can make it into the USA without detection there is employment. In turn that sets the stage for their spouse and children to join them in the USA. It’s estimated that there are some 20 million illegals now in the USA and at least 7 million (estimated by the Pew Hispanic Center) are holding jobs thereby displacing our legal workers (now many unemployed). Then the taxpayers are now called in to subsidize this illegal migration by providing free education for their children, special teachers to teach English and build more schools, free prenatal and emergency room health care and other free social services. Further, we stand-by while the illegals demonstrate for the same rights that legal USA citizens enjoy as they wave their home country flag, continue to speak their native language as their first language and break this country’s laws.Yes, this nation is made up of immigrants however the issue here is ILLEGAL! Stop illegal employment and penalize employers who hire them, stop the taxpayer subsidy, stop illegal new born citizenship, enforce our immigration laws on the books, no amnesty and expand domestic interior inspection and audits. If the foregoing were addressed our illegal population would be significantly reduced.Unfortunately, politicians and government are not acting on this issue (its unpopular with the advocacy organizations and business who hires them) and probably will not until the American people step-up and demand this illegal issue be addressed! For over 200 years, until recently, this nation had immigration laws that were enforced and did a fair job of controlling immigration issues. We need to use those lessons learned previously and incorporate them in the administration of immigration today…..that doesn’t mean a job if you don’t get caught or amnesty! The illegals must go back to where they came and follow our immigration laws. The consequences for breaking our laws have to be greater than a few dollars fine and a slap on the hand! This is just one man’s opinion based on a bit of experienced from life. Sun 04/25 1272229459 5:04pm

Absolutely. Illegal immigration is not a victimless crime. It benefits employers who are willing to break the law in order to pay Third World wages and impose working conditions and labor relations that we thought we got rid of a hundred years ago. It also drags down the wages of the hardest working, most disadvantaged Americans and forces many of them into unemployment. The media are determined to portray immigration issues in purely emotional terms, because that suits their corporate masters who are just looking to make a quick buck at the expense of our country. Our quality of life declines from increased population, Americans end up of unemployed, and we all pay an enormous tax subsidy for all the "cheap" labor. Sun 04/25 1272213980 12:46pm

Roy, I'm not surprised that concerned parties want to keep the ideas of "illegal aliens" and "employment" separate in the public's mind. It's very important that more people realize that all of these unfunded extensions of unemployment payments are, in fact, direct cash transfers to all the illegal aliens now stealing American jobs in America. How so? Well, the extensions keep more Americans out of work and pacified for a while, and at the same time allow the aliens to continue working here. The recent attempts by some Republican Senators to block the extensions unless they're first paid for (as required by law), is a good effort to end this non-stop borrowing which has already become an un-repayable burden for our children and grandchildren. Little wonder "news" services (which are almost exclusively far left) don't want to dwell on either the actual theft of jobs, or the constant indebtedness we bring upon ourselves again and again to give unemployment payments to Americans so the aliens can keep working these jobs illegally! I just made this comment on Gov. Brewer's web page: Dear Gov. Brewer, Thank you so much for your insistence on the Rule of Law, and your uncompromising stance that law must apply equally to all. Your efforts to make sure everyone's rights are respected while at the same time enforcing the laws to protect our citizens and our future is what this country needs so desperately. Thank you for your courage and integrity. I hope we, here in Oregon, and others in states around the U.S., will soon have laws identical to 1070. Sat 04/24 1272162322 10:25pm

Could you inform us more details of when CBS plans to show the interview with Roy Beck on new Arizona immigration-enforcement law. Hope to see this, and may help diffuse confusion of words purposely used by pro illegal folks on uninformed. Sat 04/24 1272155580 8:33pm

Obama should resign from the presidency and become a lobbyist for one of the illegal alien organizations such as CASA. Sat 04/24 1272151453 7:24pm

I agree with Gerry7969. Let's get those faxes going. Gov. Brewer and both AZ senators need to hear from us right away. We also need one for our "misguided" president as well. Sat 04/24 1272147237 6:13pm

If we secure the all borders and enforce all immigration laws then we prevent this:Mexican national gets life sentence for drug distributionStepdaughter sentenced to 58 months for money laundering HOUSTON - A leader of a drug trafficking organization that distributed thousands of kilograms of cocaine and marijuana was sentenced to life in federal prison Monday. The sentence resulted from an investigation conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Internal Revenue Service-Criminal Investigation Division (IRS), Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and local law enforcement task force officers.Miguel Zamora, 58, a previously deported Mexican national, was sentenced April 19 in the Southern District of Texas to life imprisonment for conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute more than five kilograms of cocaine and more than 1,000 kilograms of marijuana from December 2004 until September 2007. Zamora also received a 20-year sentence to be served concurrently for laundering the drug proceeds.Zamora, who was previously deported in 2004 after serving five years for an earlier federal drug offense, pleaded guilty to the two most serious counts of a 14-count indictment on Oct. 14, 2008. He has been in federal custody since his arrest on Oct. 7, 2007. As part of his sentence Zamora was ordered to forfeit his interest in property that was used to facilitate the offenses.U.S. District Judge Lynn Hughes also sentenced Zamora's step-daughter, Olivia del Carmen Rodriguez, 33, a naturalized U.S. citizen from El Salvador residing in Houston, to 58 months in prison for her role in the money laundering. Rodriguez pleaded guilty to the money laundering count and has been in custody since her arrest on Oct. 22, 2007.The court found that Zamora was a leader in a drug trafficking organization that distributed thousands of kilograms of cocaine and marijuana. The court also determined that millions of dollars in drug proceeds were laundered by Zamora, assisted by his stepdaughter, Rodriguez.Assistant U.S. Attorneys Martha Minnis and Katherine Haden, Southern District of Texas, prosecuted the case.Who benefits from secured borders? We all do, however, mostly the persons attempting to gain illegal access to the United States. If it prevents them from a life sentence in prison, it is good thing for them!
