Tivo'ed the results show and here is my analysis:

Fast forwarded through the first 35 minutes as I couldn't stand the group production and the cheesy car skit, seriously what a waste of time. To the results:

Fantasia stays, no big surprise.
JonPeter is still around, ugh, whyohwhy teenyboppers do you subject us to this.
Amy goes bottom three, sweet girl + no fan base = impending death knell
Jasmine is alive, and blows kisses as America's sweetheart
Big George sticks around, and shows humility as a sudden front runner.
Diana is not in the bottom 3, kinda surprising as Ms. Georgia Peach is grating on many nerves.
Camile is next, she has that "look of doom" we've come to expect (Wrestling analogy: you know when the Hulkster "hulked up" and his opponent has that helpless, "please don't hurt me" look?, that's the look Camile has every week when they announce the results.
Miss Laid Back and Lovely is safe and all the grown men with a crush breathe a sigh of relief.
Jennifer is in the bottom trio, she gives us a little attitude as she stomps to the stage. Advice: hon, if you don't sound like Fantasia the 'tude definitely ain't gonna help.
Now it's down to LaToya and John S. To the shock and amazement of EVERYONE, including John S. (who looked absolutely sick), LaToya is in the bottom 3.
What is this, the frontrunner will be booted? Did everyone ASSUME she was safe and voted for someone else?
Now we are to Amy, Jen, and LaToya. They show a shot of John S. who looks like he lost 10 grand on LaToya. (I wonder if a contestant could bet on themselves to get the boot, and then blow it on purpose? I'm a gambler, these things cross my mind).

Let's get down to 2. To everyone's relief, except Identity, LaToya stays. Boy, that would be a travesty of justice.

Amy or Jen. I'm hoping Jennifer after her tantrum and her plea that she did it for "her fans". Puh-leease honey, you had no fans before this show, and if you had enough you wouldn't be standing here on stage right now.

They show John S. again, who wants to leap out of his chair and say "pick me, pick me, I deserve to go for godsakes" like the character in the Tell-Tale Heart (Edgar Allen Poe reference folks).

Amy is the latest victim of the AI PR guillotine. Jennifer is relieved (not for long, honey) and goes to be with the others and take notes on attitude from Fantasia.
Amy says her goodbye and she seems as classy and sweet as could be.

Final Analysis: Amy deserved to stay way longer than either of the Johns. The fact John S. is still alive is a testament to the public's stupidity. This competition has an inherent bias and it showed in the results, but then it's a reflection of the music indsutry where no talent hacks like Britney and Fred Durst can sell on image alone over talent.
LaToya, and her fans, got a wake up call. And now more than ever, Fantasia is the chalk.
I still think the difference could be in the response to criticism. When Simon criticized them both, Fantasia's response was "You don't know class!", LaToya's response was "I just thought I'd try something different".

In the end, this competition is no longer about music ability, it's about image.

I'm guessing there most be a lot more female teenage voters than any other subcategory. This could be the only explanation for the two John's to stay in the competition.

As far as who's album would you buy, my opinion:
LaToya- probably (although she's almost too polished)
Fantasia- probably (of course, I dislike her attitude)
George- most likely (would sound great and soulful)
Jasmine- maybe (with the right type of music she could stand out)
Camile- likely (she's a terrible live performer, but with studio production to fix her flaws, she could sound damn good)
Diana- nope (lots would see her at the County Fair, though)
Jennifer-nope (would be one painful oversinging ballad after another)
Amy- nope (but I'm betting lots would depending on her style)
John S.- maybe (as a present to a grandparent, he definitely has that style down pat)
Jon Peter- nope, not even as a gag gift (close your eyes and listen to him, he is sooo bad)

Just my two cents.

Identity,
I thought Jen was your girl?
Who do you like to win it all (from a handicapping standpoint)?

jennifer hudson sucks.

the kid with red hair stays around because he is SO different, he surely has a decent sized loyal voting bloc who like the sinatra type oldies. but his time will come, he can't win, unless he really picks it up.

john peter lewis needs to get hit by a car or something. get this idiot off!!!

I think Fantasia wins at this point, but I would not make her much of a favorite. their are others who could win.

Anyone else thinks the show could be rigged?
My wife thinks so I am begining to believe her.

My wife thinks the voting of Clay and Rueban last year was rigged.
Clay had tons of fan sites compared to Rueban.
Clays album has been by far the best seller of the two.

Now looking at this years line up the men are weak so if you were the producers you want to keep as many different people in as possible.

This whole thing smells like a Don King fight.

Green Doberman: I don't know what I enjoy more. Watching the show on Tuesday or reading your review the next day. You write like a pro.

Yes, there have been many accusations of the show not being on the "up and up", and if you watch it and read about it, it certainly makes you wonder sometimes.
I think they should restructure the voting so everyone only gets one vote, and you should be able to vote someone off, not keep someone on.
Otherwise, the show will be headed to oblivion faster than you can say "Weakest Link" and "Who wants to be a Millionaire"

I don;t recall weakest link ever becoming #1, unless it was for 1 week. Millionaire was killed by everexposure, jumped the shark with Celebrity edition (weakest link also).
Now if Idol was on every night, 3x a year, yeah it would suffer as well.
They limit exposure to 1x/year and even poke fun at themselves for their shameless hawking.
Lastly, Idol is one of the few highly rated shows that the entire family can enjoy. We normally tape it just so we can watch it with the kids (their choice).

Well, I agree that I enjoy it as well Assassin, but what with all the spinoffs (American Juniors), etc. and the controversy with the questionable voting and lousy singers, I can see it "jumping the shark" soon.

I hope not, because as you can see from my reviews, I do enjoy the show.

And maybe "weakest link" wasn't number 1, but it was definitely up there and had tons of hype. That was my point, I think you understand what I was saying.

Mr. Misanthrope, thanks a ton for the comment. The reason I wrote is to entertain, to educate, and to make you say hmmm.
I admit there are times I do go off on a tangent or get a wee bit passionate, but I hope you and others enjoy my posts and offer opinions both supporting and opposing.
I do have a modest background in journalism, but my posts here are mainly off the cuff, buzzed at the keyboard kinda stuff.

My wife highlighted something which points to her opinion that the show is rigged.
This weeks show will be on big bands.
John Stevens will survive another week without doing anything or taking any risks.

Everyone should bet on John Stevens and then vote for him as many times as you can and this way he can win and we can all steal the sports books money! Who cares who deserves to win if you can pick up 70-1!

Preview for tonight's show.

The theme has been changed from Big Band to the Songs of Sir Elton John.

According to online odds, Camile is the favorite to get the boot with Jennifer not far behind.

John S. is undoubtedly disappointed in the change of theme as big band would seem to be right up his alley.

Some things to look for:
Camile-still needs that knock out performance
Jennifer-less attitude and oversinging of she's a goner.
John S.-I will go out on a limb and predict he sounds the same as last week..and the week before..and the week before
JPL-hope he doesn't bring back his awful rendition of "Tiny Dancer"
Diana-losing steam quickly, the barbie/beauty pageant polish has lost its appael
George-keep it steady and safe
Jasmine-still looks to be in no danger of leaving, could use another solid performance
LaToya-after last week's shocker her followers will make sure to vote for her this week
Fantasia-still the chalk, but another attitude outburst could slow her momentum

Look for my review later, I'm going to TiVo the show and try to do a running commentary summary this week.

Boo Latoya. Bet against her. Don't think she'll pick up many Amy voters. Perhaps some of her support went back to Fantasia. Need a good showing from Camile or its bye bye baby
