No. But we're talking about greatness over a career, and consistently carrying a team.. And I just haven't seen any ball handling players that I consider great who have had a poor career FT percentage. And I consider anything under 80% poor by NBA standards.

What about Isiah Thomas? Was he a great ball handling player? Not by your standards.

Career FT% = 76%
His first 3 years in the NBA, Isiah averaged 71.5% FT

Playoffs FT% = 77%

Come on guys, this is getting ridiculous.

Ridiculous is Gosooners making his statement about Lebron or any NBA Superstar player for that matter not being "Great" because they shoot below 80 % ...from the Freethrow line... and we brought examples to the table to argue that point , Im still waiting for his response to them ...

So Clyde Drexler wasnt great in your opinion ... he was under 80 %

and DR. J was under 80 % also , I guess he was a poor player aswell ( according to your logic )
Funny you should mention those two. As great as they were as scorers, they both only won one title each. And Clyde Drexler shot 83% of his FT the year his team won. And Julius Erving shot 86% in the playoffs. Do you see a pattern here? They both shot their alltime best FT averages and it paid off in NBA Championships. I'm not saying that it's a done deal that a player has to shoot at least 80% and win a championship. I'm sure it's been done a few times in the past with NBA stars with a good supporting casts and weaker opponents. But your chances go way down. Especially in today's NBA that has alot of parity and when facing a team that is your equal. I'll bet Charles Barkley wished he had been able to shoot 80% during his career. He might have himself a ring.

I can see where he is coming from though, if you give the sooners more time he will bring up the fact that his jumpers and FT are inconsistent, of course LBJ is still one of the greatest 22 yo to ever play the game, he's a terrific passer and has a great left hand, and there goes without saying a total monster on offence, but i can see why people are reserved about comparing him with the all time greats.

Magic Johnson once said , If Isaiah was 6'6 ... He would be unstoppable

But once again , hes not truly a great player , because of his poor foul shooting .... He'll never be a true legend

Oh, and btw, Kobe has had better players on his lakers team for the past 5 years than Lebron, and yet has not won a playoff series. There is no comparison between the two.

Without Lebron, most the Cavs would be lucky to be on rosters...

Sean

your an idiot. the only player on the lakers that would start for cleve is odom. lebron had ONE great game. where was he in game 1 or 2? why did he score 48? because he took every shot.
the difference is kobe is in the west and lebron is in the east. switch conferences and lakers would win the east and cleve wouldn't make the playoffs in the west.

Lebron much better than Kobe, especailly with the game on the line. If Lebron and Kobe switch teams, Cleveland would have been 35-47 this year.

guess you need to stay with tennis and golf, cause you are clueless about hoops.

Even though Sean's comment was idiotic, not sure you should be calling people an idiot when you just made a dumber one yet. Cleveland would have made the playoffs in the West and the Lakers could not beat Detroit.

I thought the people ripping James up a week ago were idiots, I doubt anything has changed. For the most part they're just haters, much like the Manning bashers before he won a ring.

Should he be crowned the greatest ever? Hell no. But the kid is an amazing talent who should just now be graduating from college. Labeling someone that young a choke artist and shit like that is beyond ignorant imo, and last night's performance went a long ways towards proving that.

Exactly! Why can't people just enjoy what the guy did, instead we hear, 'well he's not MJ" "well he can't hit FTs" "his breath stinks I hear" ....people in general are very negative and root for people to fail IMHO. I will never understand that.

Lebron is in the MJ, Magic, Bird area... Do it for 5+ years and he is like Mike...

I believe Bird MJ or Magic could carry the Cavs. Teams are not as loaded in this salary cap expansion landscape. Magic had Kareem, but he had to beat BIrd, Mchale, Parrish, DJ and Ainge.

Jordan had Pippen, but he had to knock off the Lakers, Celtics, and Isiah's pistons...

Teams were more loaded back then. No one player could dominate.

Any of the above 4 could beat Wallace, PRince, Rip, Billups.... These are not Hall of famers.

Sean

48 pts 9 reb 7 assists is great but here are other numbers people wont see:

2 turnovers in 58 minutes...

that is INCREDIBLE for someone handling the ball as often as he was. he took charge of every posession and for him to only commit 2 turnovers in 58 minutes of intense defense is remarkable
when you watch KOBE @ LEBRON on the court ,, off the court ,, in the huddle, at the press conference ----------------- you would think KOBE was 22 and LEBRON was the VETERAN !!!!!!! Anyone who thinks KOBE is a better player doesnt know the game !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LEBRON could avg 40+ a night if he was a selfish player !
4 FTs in the 4th quarter and 2 overtimes

Lebron did it by himself, there was no Wade-like bailing out by the refs here. he hit those jumpers, made those dunks, created everything on his own and didn't need any refs to give him any calls.

7 assists out of 13 team assists

this is what separates Lebron from Kobe. he trusts his teammates, he creates and draws double-teams to find them wide open shots, yet he still has the ability to take over the game at the end.
