"The market is the market" ... Meaning because a few teams are stupid, everyone else has to follow suit?

Why can't someone just say "NO!"???

The record-setting Mahomes deal threw QB salaries out of whack, and it's been one batshit insane signining after another since.

Actually, the problem isn't Mahomes. Pay him - worth every penny. The problem is the agents/players/teams who believe "their guy" is "75% as good as Mahomes, therefore deserve 75% of his money."

That's not how it works. The NFL is a zero sum game, meaning the 75% guys will never win against the benchmark QBs.

So why pay them?
You can’t just say no. Lol

They’ll just leave when their contract is up and someone will pay him at market value

If we are paying inferior QB’s 40+, then yeah Hurts is gonna get paid

Why not?

Belichick would let him walk or maximize his current value.

Jimmy G comes to mind. "Sorry kid, you're no Tom Brady. See ya!"

If you think about it, the Chiefs are now operating under the old Pats gold standard. Mahomes gets paid, anyone else who gets greedy is shown the door.

Addition by substraction in a cap league.

Who would they replace him with?

To be fair, I would agree that a lot of QB's could be successful in Philly with that offensive line and weapons. Seem like Hurts' running ability enhances his value though. Can't really just bring in a Jimmy G and expect the engine to keep running, especially since Eagles probably going to get a little worse on the line over next couple seasons

TBD about Chiefs. They made the right move getting rid of Hill. But they're good because they had a lot of rookies/cheap contracts make meaningful contributions. So we haven't seen many "greedy" dilemmas yet.

You also have to realize that guys like Hurts and Burrow getting mega deals this offseason has no barring on their upcoming year, right?

Philly will regress as, if they pay Hurts they will lose quite a few free agents. This was their best chance for a championship as the QB is on a rookie contract. They might pay attention to KC as they paid Mahomes and still kept good players on each side of the ball.
Meanwhile, the thing no one talks about with Lamar is that he is not very intelligent at all (believe me, an understatement). Ravens know he is on the decline and is not worth Kyler money...Kyler is not worth Kyler money, but the Cardinals are stuck...a perfect model for what the Ravens don't want to do.

Who replaces him? Does it matter?

When Hurts was injured, their play didn't drop off much. They lost to the Cowboys but it was close. Minshew is a good backup QB, who is also a FA this year.

Eagles are like the Niners in that the QB seems interchangeable because of the solid team structure built around the position.

Handing Hurts 50m pretty much blows up said structure.

Taking into account everything you have been saying(obviously not JUST this post) but your racism runs strong.

Not sure anyone else would disagree. Including perhaps even you.
Also,

Thank you for the kind words.

Now lets get back to teams being stupid

Agree in general about Hurts, but he's probably the best QB in the NFC (kinda by default). Think you gotta lock that up

I'm not sure Lamar is on the decline. He's been dinged up, but he's only 26. If healthy (I know, big if), he's got a lot of top-tier athletic years left. He's got a lot more upside than Kyler Murray. Don't think Ravens can quite get into that position with Lamar, since Lamar is obviously the clearly better player.

Hurts will get paid for sure.

Sure lots of QB's can flourish with the #1 offensive line in NFL and great weapons at WR and TE. The O-Line will ne really good for a while, can't get higher then #1 and will eventually lose Kelce with will hurt, but they did draft the #1 center available in last years draft with a really high pick in case Kelce retired last year. Will be a downgrade but not much. Other weapons are locked up and they all love Hurts. Can't not sign him.

Hurts has also shown a lot of improvement throwing between the last two seasons, can he keep getting better? I didn't think he would even be this good before this season. He's made a believer out of a lot of people who didn't think he had a chance.

L. Jackson is another story , don't love his future. Although it's not exactly as if the Ravens are getting weapons for him these past few years.

Remember when Cam Newton won the MVP?? 3 years later he can't even get a back up gig.

Peyton Manning is the greatest of all time... Set a shit ton of passing records in I think 2015.... Just 2 years later, he couldn't hit a 10 yard out pattern.

Lamar Jackson without question will regress like we have never seen. Black qbs when good, start out fast and then are done in a couple years which as I have pointed oput; never hasve a good season after 30 years old. When the pocket passers are just entering their prime

It was 2013 but Peyton Manning isn't black so what does this have to do with anything?

DeShawn Watson is the classic case. Sign a 40+ million per year contract and sexually adult 40+ women and get away with it. Comes back near the end of last season and looks like compete dog shit

Just comical for me.. There are even if you count someone like Rodgers, there are literally 6 franchise qb's in the NFL.

Mahomes, Burrow, Lawrence, Allen, Herbert, and sure throw in Rodgers because of course he was once.

Yet all these " draft pundits" pretend there are 3-4 every year. LOL

There is not a franchise qb in this draft. Sure, if something goes right, you can get a stetson bennet in the 4th round and have success but he isn't exactly an all time great.

The media has put all of these guys as 1st rounders.

Bryce Young
CJ Stroud
Will Levis
Anthony Richardson ( who has a horrible completion % in a bubble screen offense)
Hendon Hooker.

Come on, Have a feeling agents pay the media to push their guys. I don't see it with any of them. And I am smarter than most GM's.

This is 100% true

Someone somewhere along the line needs to stand up

Yes some of you other guys are right another team will just pay athlete regardless

So the leagues have to meet and come together and make an agreement and trust each other that they won't do that and I'll stand firm

If they strike, so be it let them sit their asses as long as they want and bring in athletes who will appreciate the good money they can make

Eventually the others will come crawling back
