Go find out what bar Tank is in and ask him to train you.

yeah right. if you even look at that guy in the bar you're likely to end up exiting throught the front window. @) thats how he trains, barfights. everytime i see him he's usually at perq's or killarneys. i'd be willing to bet he's been kicked out of each at least 10 times. better off making friends with tito, rodman, warren moon, or tony gonzalez. much friendlier people

my wife is gringa so my diet has changed totally in the last 9 years, rice is a rare ocassion as I don't feel like asking her to cook something that she won't eat (even though her version of the Tico rice is not that bad)

lets put it this way

a normal Tico has chicharrones every now and then

the normal Gringo has french fries 'a lo grande' every OTHER day

I dont know where you get your statistics Wolfie but in my house we ate a lot of homemade food too. Dishes not so different from Olla de Carne and Picadillo, you just watch too much tv because not everyone in the US lives off fastfood. Honestly I see more people living off fast food here than I did back home in MO, but that is probably directly related to the amount of office jobs here in San Jose.

olla de carne - slowcooked pot-roast with carrots and potatos, very common.

sopa negra - In my house a pot of beans is a meal, the only difference is that we drop a couple hamhocks in there to give it some flavor(yeah beans with flavor, can you believe it?)

lengua - If eating strange parts of animals makes you healthy, Im pretty sure you will die way before your typical redneck wolfster.

picadillo de carne - chili con carne is our picadillo

arroz con leche- I used to eat rice with milk and butter for breakfast, Im pretty sure the Ticos didnt invent this one although the time of the day you eat it differs.

ll that is stuff that normal ticos eat (and I don't find them the least unhealthy)

And we eat all the same stuff, only prepared differently. Seems like you watch way too much TV, I assume you also believe that every gringo has a perfectly manicured lawn, we all have tons of money, and every street in America is paved. Come on Wolfie, you stereotype more than a redneck.

Gain 30 pounds eating rice and Tico food. I went from looking like a super gringo to a super fatass gringo in 1 year...my wife fries everything. Amazing.

Tico food is very fattening, yes the obesity levels in the states are high but its one extreme or the other, there are a lot of fat people and a lot of skinny people, whereas here they dont get as big but almost everyone is sporting a spare tire or two.

If your wife fries everything she wants to get rid of you as fast as possible. And I don´t blame her.

Yes, the amount of fast food consumed in CR has gone way up in recent years, which has to do with the fact that people are making more money so they can afford to eat out for lunch (people used to bring food from home to the office). Also fast food is very convenient.

One of the reasons most Ticos don´t get to US fat standards is because they walk a lot more, not everyone has a car so they walk and ride the bus. In the US absolutely everything can be done without getting out of the car. Plus they´ll probably go home and eat healthier meals than the average US citizen does.

Its not one extreme to the other, its skinny people on their way to become fat asses.......OR fully accomplished fat asses

and you have a small percentage of the population that is genetically destined to be thin.

Well if all you saw was fastfood while you were there then you were hanging out with the wrong people because most of my friends and family actually cook.

Not just fast food at all, I get all the typical midwestern fixes specially now that we have a place over there

We went out a couple of times in the last trip, olive garden was totally swamped (economy crisis? doesnt look like it .....at least for now)

Even if you cook, the problem there and here also exists in the drinks, when you take over 25% of your calories via mountain dews/coca cola etc.....you are still screwed

You need to visit the US more often.........

Every time I end up in Vancouver (just one example) the difference is like night and day. Last time I was there I saw 2 fat people, in Hong Kong I had to actually work hard to find any at all, I found two, one a very old (sick?) woman......and another a tourist (from you know where.....)
