SIZE=1]Devils sent slumping Canadiens to 6th straight loss
November 28, 2019

MONTREAL (AP) Blake Coleman had two goals and two assists and the New Jersey Devils handed the Montreal Canadiens their sixth straight loss, 6-4 on Thursday night.

Travis Zajac, Miles Wood, Jesper Boqvist and Damon Severson also scored and Nikita Gusev had three assists for his first career multi-point game. Mackenzie Blackwood stopped 44 shots to help New Jersey beat Montreal for the seventh straight game.

Brendan Gallagher, Jesperi Kotkaniemi, Joel Armia and Artturi Lehkonen scored for Montreal. The Canadiens are 0-4-2 on the skid that began Nov. 16 with an overtime loss to the Devils at Bell Centre. They have conceded at least four goals in five of their past six games.

Boqvist gave the Devils a 4-3 lead midway through the second period, beating Carey Price off a rebound.

Severson made it 5-3 at 8:21 of the third with a shot to the top corner on an odd-man rush. Price smashed his stick on the crossbar in frustration.

Lehkonen scored 16 later for Montreal, and Coleman added an empty-netter with 1:16 left.

NOTES: P.K. Subban was playing his seventh game against his former team. The New Jersey defenseman got into a brief altercation with Gallagher in the third period, trading punches after the whistle. ... Montreal is 6-6-2 at home.

— Arizona 27.6%

— Tulane 27.7%

— Arkansas/VCU 29.2%

Quote of the Day
“This is not the time for me [to make a coaching change]. I’m looking ahead at another ballgame. I’m looking ahead at winning four or five straight and helping write a story they will talk about, how it looks like you’re down and out. And I mean that. That’s the way that I’m operating. Every decision that I make over the next month will be with an eye in mind to get us in the Super Bowl now.”
Jerry Jones, after Thursday’s loss to Buffalo

Friday’s quiz
Which two college football teams play annually for the Old Oaken Bucket?

Thursday’s quiz
In bowling, if you get a turkey, it means you rolled three strikes in a row.

Wednesday’s quiz
Georgia basketball coach Tom Crean was Dwyane Wade’s college coach.

Friday’s List of 13: Random stuff with weekend here…..

13) Buffalo 26, Dallas 15:
— 9-3 Bills might be the most unheralded 9-3 team ever.
— The next few weeks are going to be a good time for Lincoln Riley’s agent, because it is hard to believe that Jason Garrett will be the Cowboys’ coach next year.

12) Saints 26, Falcons 18:
— New Orleans wins NFC South, is first team to qualify for playoffs.
— Atlanta outgained Saints, 348-280, but turned ball over three times in 2nd half.

11) Chicago 20, Detroit 17:
— Lions’ first two drives: 13 plays, 153 yards, two TD’s.
— Lions’ last eight drives: 54 plays, 211 yards, one FG.

10) Lions are 9-18-1 under 2nd-year coach Matt Patricia, who got hired because he worked for New England- they win a lot. Problem is, Patricia didn’t bring Tom Brady with him to Detroit.

Lions fired Jim Caldwell, who went 36-28 in four years with Detroit, making the playoffs twice in those four years. Still an interesting decision, two years later.

9) Michigan 73, North Carolina 64— Wolverines went on a 19-0 run early in 2nd half; they made 11-26 on the arc, and are now 6-0 under rookie coach Juwan Howard.

8) Long Beach State 66, Providence 65— 49ers were a 16.5-point underdog; they were down 17 early in second half. Friars turned ball over 21 times; this is a bad loss for then.

7) Gonzaga 73, Oregon 72 OT— Zags led 24-7 early, but for second day in row, Oregon stormed back and erased a big lead- they led by 4 in OT, but Gonzaga ended game on a 7-2 spurt and will play Michigan in the Atlantis finals Friday afternoon.

6) Marquette 73, Davidson 63— Wildcats had made a 3-pointer in 809 consecutive games, but went 0-15 in this game, which ends the streak. Markus Howard scored 40 for Mar quote, which made 27-38 on foul line (Davidson was 15-23).

Rising star in TV business is former Cincinnati/Ole Miss coach Andy Kennedy, who is working the Orlando tournament this weekend. Smart, funny and knows when to be quiet.

5) Harvard 62, Texas A&M 51— Crimson were a perfect 22-22 on foul line, offsetting their 6-29 day on the arc. Harvard moves on to play Maryland Friday.

4) Virginia’s 2nd-leading scorer Braxton Key is out indefinitely after having wrist surgery this week. Cavaliers are 7-0 after smothering Maine 46-26 Wednesday.

3) Patriots kicker Nick Folk had an appendectomy, will miss this week’s game in Houston; former Redskins kicker Kai Forbath is expected to be his replacement.

2) Mississippi State 21, Ole Miss 20— With 0:04 left in the Egg Bowl, Ole Miss WR Elijah Moore caught a 2-yard touchdown pass that cut Mississippi State’s lead to 21-20; the PAT would tie the game.

After he scored, Moore lifted his leg like a dog and pretended to urinate after his score, and got an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for excessive celebration, pushing the PAT back 15 yards.

The kicker missed the PAT, Miss State won 21-20 and is now bowl eligible.

1) Penn 68, Central Florida 67— Kid on UCF thought he hit the game-tying 3 at the buzzer, but he was standing behind the wrong arc, and was standing on the 3-point arc. With so many different 3-point lines, he got confused. Good day for the Ivy League.

MacKinnon powers Avalanche past Blackhawks 5-2
November 29, 2019
By The Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) Dmitry Orlov scored 3:03 into overtime, and the Washington Capitals rallied to beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-3 on Friday.

Orlov, Jakub Vrana and Evgeny Kuznetsov each had a goal and an assist for Washington, which trailed 3-1 after two periods. Alex Ovechkin tied the game with his team-leading 17th goal 11:36 into the third.

The Capitals went 2 for 2 on the power play and closed out a three-game homestand with five points.

Brayden Point scored his 100th career goal and had an assist for Tampa Bay. Nikita Kucherov recorded three assists for the second time this season, but also picked up a penalty that helped set up Ovechkin's goal.

BLUES 3, STARS 1

DALLAS (AP) - Ryan O'Reilly broke a tie 18 seconds after Dallas pulled even, and the Blues topped the Stars to extend their lead in the Central Division.

O'Reilly took a pass from Ivan Barbashev and beat Ben Bishop from the slot with 2:53 left in the third period. Barbashev added an empty-netter with 3 seconds remaining.

Jake Allen made 31 saves, stopping everything except Roope Hintz's shot 9 seconds after he came out of the penalty box with 3:11 to play. St. Louis has a nine-game road points streak (7-0-2).

Bishop had 37 saves.

BLUE JACKETS 5, PENGUINS 2

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Gustav Nyquist scored three times to lead Columbus to the victory.

Nick Foligno had two goals for the Blue Jackets, who won for the fifth time in seven games. Joonas Korpisalo had 29 saves, making several good stops with Pittsburgh pressing in the third period.

It was Nyquist's second career hat trick. It was the first hat trick for Columbus since Boone Jenner scored three times in a 7-4 victory over Boston on March 12.

Jake Guentzel had a goal and assist for Pittsburgh, which had won three in a row. Kris Letang also scored, Evgeni Malkin added two assists and Tristan Jarry had 25 saves.

PREDATORS 3, HURRICANES 0

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Nashville's Pekka Rinne made 31 saves for his third shutout of the season and No. 58 for his career.

Rocco Grimaldi, Calle Jarnkrok and Austin Watson scored for the Predators, who broke a six-game losing streak against the Hurricanes.

The Predators won for the third time in four games, but notched their first win over Carolina since January 2016.

The Hurricanes dropped their second straight. Carolina has just three losses in its last nine games.

Petr Mrazek made 25 saves in his first career loss to Nashville in nine starts.

GOLDEN KNIGHTS 2, COYOTES 1, SO

LAS VEGAS (AP) - Vegas' Alex Tuch scored in regulation and added the shootout winner.

Golden Knights goaltender Malcolm Subban stopped 35 shots in his third straight start, including two monster saves in the final 12 seconds of regulation, and two more in overtime.

Subban went into the shootout a perfect 16 for 16 in his career, and stopped two of three shots he faced.

Jakob Chychrun scored in the second period for the Coyotes. Darcy Kuemper made 37 saves.

AVALANCHE 5, BLACKHAWKS 2

CHICAGO (AP) - Nathan MacKinnon had a goal and three assists, sending the Avalanche to the road win.

J.T. Compher added a goal and two assists for Colorado, which earned its second straight victory. Cale Makar, Ryan Graves and Valeri Nichushkin also scored in the first of a home-and-home set.

Patrick Kane and Zack Smith scored for the Blackhawks, who have dropped four of five. Defenseman Duncan Keith left with a groin injury midway through the second period.

Pavel Francouz made 34 saves. The Avalanche scored on three of their first seven shots against Corey Crawford, who blocked 18 for the game.

BRUINS 3, RANGERS 2

BOSTON (AP) - David Krejci scored 1:40 into overtime, David Pastrnak scored his league-leading 24th goal and Boston earned its sixth straight win.

Krejci's goal, his fifth of the season, came on a left-circle wrist shot against an out-of-position Henrik Lundqvist after Pastrnak created space with a deke in the right circle.

Jaroslav Halak made 26 saves for the Bruins. Boston matched its longest winning streak of the season and its longest point streak at 10 games (7-0-3).

Pavel Buchnevich and Filip Chytil scored for the Rangers, who had won three in a row. Lundqvist had 24 saves.

JETS 3, DUCKS 0

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) - Connor Hellebuyck made 24 saves for his second shutout, leading Winnipeg to its third consecutive win.

Neal Pionk had a power-play goal for the Jets, who improved to 10-2-1 this month with one game to play. Nikolaj Ehlers and Kyle Connor also scored, and Blake Wheeler had two assists.

John Gibson made 17 saves for the Ducks.

SHARKS 4, KINGS 1

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - Martin Jones made 33 saves for San Jose, and Noah Gregor scored his first career NHL goal.

Logan Couture, Patrick Marleau and Marc-Edouard Vlasic also scored to help San Jose rebound from a lackluster effort Wednesday night against Winnipeg.

The Sharks beat the Kings for the second time in five days. But unlike Monday, when San Jose blew a 3-0 lead before winning in overtime, the Sharks kept the pressure up in the rematch.

Kyle Clifford scored for Los Angeles with 1:49 left. Jonathan Quick made 18 stops.

AVALANCHE 5, BLACKHAWKS 2

CHICAGO (AP) - Nathan MacKinnon had a goal and three assists, leading Colorado to its second straight win.

J.T. Compher added a goal and two assists for the Avalanche.

WILD 7, SENATORS 2

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - Defenseman Jared Spurgeon had a goal and two assists, and Minnesota scored three goals in a 4:13 span of the second period.

The Wild had their highest-scoring game of the season, beating the Senators for the eighth straight time since November 2016. It was the first time Minnesota scored seven goals since a Dec. 11, 2018, victory over Montreal.

Alex Stalock made 33 saves to improve to 6-3-2 as starter Devan Dubnyk takes more family leave to deal with his wife's undiagnosed illness.

Brady Tkachuk and Nick Paul scored for Ottawa, which dropped the opener of a five-game trip for its third consecutive loss. Anders Nilsson made 28 stops.

SABRES 6, MAPLE LEAFS 4

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - Jack Eichel had two goals and an assist, powering Buffalo to the victory.

Jimmy Vesey, Jeff Skinner, Casey Mittelstadt and Victor Olofsson also scored for the Sabres. Linus Ullmark made 25 saves.

The high-scoring game was the first half of a home-and-home series. The sides meet again Saturday night in Toronto.

John Tavares had two goals for the Maple Leafs, and Dmytro Timashov and Kasperi Kapanen also scored. Michael Hutchinson made 30 saves.

It was Toronto's first loss under new coach Sheldon Keefe, who replaced Mike Babcock on Nov. 20.

FLYERS 6, RED WINGS 1

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Sean Couturier and Scott Laughton each had a goal and an assist, and Philadelphia earned its third straight victory.

Kevin Hayes, Oskar Lindblom, Shayne Gostisbehere and James van Riemsdyk also scored. The Flyers haven't lost in regulation during the regular season to Detroit since Jan. 25, 1997, going 16-0-1 over that stretch.

Robby Fabbri scored for the slumping Red Wings. They have lost eight in a row to drop to an NHL-worst 7-18-3.

Armadillo: Saturday's six-pack

College hoop teams with the most experience:

6) Hofstra, CAA

5) Seattle, WAC

4) South Carolina State, MEAC

3) Central Michigan, MAC

2) Iona, MAAC

1) South Alabama, Sun Belt

**********

Armadillo: Saturday's List of 13: Wrapping up a busy Friday…..

13) Virginia 39, Virginia Tech 30— Cavaliers go to ACC championship game for first time, while ending a 15-game losing streak to their in-state rivals.

12) Michigan 82, Gonzaga 64— Wolverines win the Battle of Atlantis, as Juwan Howard begins his head coaching career by winning his first seven games. Thursday’s OT win over Oregon probably took a lot out of the Zags.

11) Marquette 101, USC 79— Markus Howard scored 51 points, his teammates scored 50 as the whole team advances to play Maryland in the finals of the Orlando tournament Sunday. This game was 57-36 at the half; Trojans beat Fairfield 57-48 the day before.

10) Penn State 85, Syracuse 64— ESPN’s Fran Fraschilla basically said without saying the exact words that this is the least talented Syracuse team in decades. Orange are 4-3, with all three losses by 14+ points- their best win is over Colgate.

9) Wake Forest 88, Long Beach State 75— Danny Manning’s Deacons move on to the finals of the Wooden Legacy, will play Arizona in the final Sunday.

Early in this game, kid on Long Beach hits a 3-pointer in front of the Wake Forest bench, and gets a technical for woofing at someone on the bench. Long Beach takes the kid out; the head coach snaps at him a little, then the assistant coach goes over and smooths things over, getting him ready to go back in the game.

8) San Diego State 83, Iowa 73— Aztecs trailed by 17 at one point, improve to 8-0, winning tournament at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas.

7) Through Week 12, NFL teams with most plays of 20+ yards:
Cowboys 58 (before the Buffalo game), Lions 57

Through Week 12, NFL teams with least plays of 20+ yards:
Dolphins 27, Redskins 29, Bears 31 (before Thursday)

6) Through Week 12, NFL teams that allowed most plays of 20+ yards:
Bengals 69, Raiders 66, Arizona/Miami 58

Through Week 12, NFL teams that allowed fewest plays of 20+ yards:
Patriots/Rams/49ers, all 29

5) Iowa 27, Nebraska 24— Hawkeyes kicked a FG with 0:01 left to end Nebraska’s season at 5-7; this is third year in row that Cornhuskers won’t go bowling.

4) West Virginia 20, TCU 17— Horned Frogs lose as a 13-point home favorite and don’t become bowl eligible. Sad way to end the season.

3) Patriots kicker Nick Folk had an appendectomy, was going miss this week’s game in Houston and then come back, but New England cut him Friday; former Redskins kicker Kai Forbath will be his replacement.

Moral of the story: Don’t have an appendectomy during the season.

2) Philadelphia Eagles signed OT Lane Johnson to a 4-year contract extension worth $72M, with $54.595M of that guaranteed.

1) Reds’ pitcher Trevor Bauer’s $300,000 McLaren sports car was totaled while it was being stored at a Houston McLaren dealership. On Tuesday, a tire fell off of a semi truck, rolled across six lanes of traffic on a Houston highway, struck a wall, and crashed thru a double-paned glass window at the dealership and wrecked Bauer’s car.

Thats an expensive day; luckily, no one was injured.

Georgiev, Rangers shut out Devils, 4-0
November 30, 2019
By The Associated Press

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) Alexandar Georgiev stopped 33 shots for his third career shutout, leading the surging New York Rangers to a 4-0 win over the short-handed New Jersey Devils on Saturday.

New York improved to 4-0-1 in its last five games. Mika Zibanejad had a goal and an assist, and Jesper Fast, Adam Fox and Brady Skjei also scored.

Georgiev had 11 saves in the first, 10 in the second and 12 in the third to get New York's first shutout of the season.

Mackenzie Blackwood had 19 saves for New Jersey, which went 0 for 8 on the power play while giving up two short-handed goals. It lost for the fourth time in six games.

FLYERS 4, CANADIENS 3, OT

MONTREAL (AP) - Ivan Provorov scored 31 seconds into overtime, and Philadelphia earned its fourth straight victory.

Oskar Lindblom, Kevin Hayes and Travis Konecny also scored for the Flyers (15-7-5), who were coming off a 6-1 win over Detroit on Friday. Brian Elliott made 39 saves.

The Canadiens (11-9-6) dropped their seventh consecutive game. Tomas Tatar had two goals, and Joel Armia also scored. Keith Kinkaid stopped 25 shots.

Provorov used a nifty move to get around Max Domi before beating Kinkaid for his sixth of the season.

MAPLE LEAFS 2, SABRES 1, OT

TORONTO (AP) - John Tavares scored at 1:45 of overtime and picked up his 400th NHL assist as Toronto split a home-andhome series with Buffalo.

Tavares' 10th goal of the season helped Toronto improve to 4-1-0 in its last five games. William Nylander also scored for the Maple Leafs (13-11-4). Frederik Andersen made 29 saves in victory.

Rasmus Ristolainen scored for Buffalo (12-10-5). Carter Hutton made 41 saves in defeat and fell to 0-5-3 in his last eight games.

The game marked the home-coaching debut for Sheldon Keefe. The former NHLer from Brampton was named head coach of the Maple Leafs on Nov. 20 after the team dismissed Mike Babcock.

FLAMES 3, SENATORS 1

CALGARY, Alberta (AP) - Elias Lindholm scored the deciding goal late in the third period and added an empty-netter, leading Calgary past Ottawa.

New Flames coach Geoff Ward won for the second time in as many games. He was also a winner on Wednesday night, when Calgary beat Buffalo 3-2 in overtime.

Calgary head coach Bill Peters resigned on Friday amid allegations of racial slurs and physical abuse of players in previous jobs. Peters' resignation came after a lengthy process that included investigations by the Flames and the NHL.

Dillon Dube also scored for Calgary (13-12-4). The Flames improved to 3-0-1 in their last four games.

Jean-Gabriel Pageau had his team-leading 14th goal for Ottawa (11-15-1), which lost its fourth straight. David Rittich made 26 saves and improved to 12-7-4.

Marcus Hogberg had 24 saves for Ottawa in his first start of the season and the fifth of his career.

HURRICANES 3, LIGHTNING 2

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - James Reimer made 36 saves, Sebastian Aho and Jaccob Slavin each had a goal and an assist, and Carolina beat Tampa Bay.

Carolina also got a goal from Jordan Martinook. Dougie Hamilton had two assists.

Brayden Point and Tyler Johnson scored for the Lightning, who have lost three straight (0-2-1). Curtis McElhinney stopped 21 shots.

ISLANDERS 2, BLUE JACKETS 0

NEW YORK (AP) - Mathew Barzal had a goal and an assist, Semyon Varlamov got his second shutout of the season, and New York beat Columbus.

Anders Lee also scored to help the Islanders get a win in the return from an 0-2-1 California trip that ended their franchise-record 17-game point streak. Thomas Greiss started and made nine saves before leaving with 5:54 left in the first period. Varlamov came on and stopped all 30 shots he faced to earn his 27th career shutout.

Elvis Merzlikins finished with 25 saves as the 25-year-old Latvian fell to 0-3-3 in his rookie season for the Blue Jackets.

PANTHERS 3, PREDATORS 0

SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) - Chris Driedger posted a shutout in his first career start, Anton Stralman scored his first two goals of the season and Florida beat Nashville.

Driedger stopped 27 shots in his first appearance with Florida. The 25-year-old appeared in three games for Ottawa between 2014-17 but had never started in the NHL.

Aleksander Barkov added his eighth goal as the Panthers won for the first time in four games. It was the Predators' first loss in regulation in the past five games.

Juuse Saros stopped 24 shots for Nashville.

CAPITALS 5, RED WINGS 2

DETROIT (AP) - Alex Ovechkin completed a hat trick with two empty-net goals and Washington dealt Detroit its ninth straight loss.

Ovechkin reached 20 goals for the 15th consecutive season to start his career, a feat previously achieved by Marcel Dionne, Mike Gartner, Jaromir Jagr and Mats Sundin. The 34-year-old Ovechkin also had an assist.

T.J. Oshie had a goal and an assist, Tom Wilson also scored and Evgeny Kuznetsov had three assists for the Capitals. Ilya Samsonov stopped 25 shots.

Robby Fabbri and Luke Glendening scored for Detroit, which has been outscored 24-4 in its last five games. Jonathan Bernier made 29 saves.

BLUES 4, PENGUINS 1

ST. LOUIS (AP) - Justin Faulk and Nathan Walker each scored for the first time with the Blues, and St. Louis beat Pittsburgh.

Jaden Schwartz had a goal and an assist and Ivan Barbashev and Mackenzie MacEachern also scored for the Blues, who won their third straight game and have points in their last four. Jordan Binnington made 28 saves and improved to 13-4-4.

Sam Lafferty and Kris Letang scored for the Penguins, who lost their second straight game. Matt Murray, playing for the first time since Nov. 7, made 22 saves.

SHARKS 4, COYOTES 2

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) - Logan Couture scored twice and San Jose got four unanswered goals to rally past Arizona for ITS 11th win in 13 games.

Couture bookended San Jose's comeback, starting it midway through the first period and completing it with an empty-netter. He has five goals and 14 points in his past 10 games.

Dylan Gambrell and Timo Meier also scored for San Jose.

The Sharks extended their NHL record by winning their 45th consecutive game in which they have allowed fewer than three goals. They broke the mark in a 4-1 victory over the Los Angeles Kings on Friday.

Nick Schmaltz and Derek Stepan scored on the Coyotes' first two shots, but Martin Jones stymied the Coyotes the rest of the way. Jones made 21 saves while starting on back-to-back days for the first time this season.

AVALANCHE 7, BLACKHAWKS 3

DENVER (AP) - Mikko Rantanen had a goal and three assists in his return to Colorado's lineup after missing 16 games due to injury, and Nazem Kadri and Joonas Donskoi each scored twice in the win over Chicago.

Nathan MacKinnon added a goal and two assists and Tyson Jost also scored to help Colorado sweep the two-game set.

Robin Lehner had nine saves before being replaced by Corey Crawford, who didn't do much better.

Patrick Kane scored his 14th goal late in the third to extend his points streak to 15 games, the longest of the season in the NHL. Brandon Saab and Dominik Kubalik also scored. Crawford stopped 13 shots.

KINGS 2, JETS 1

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Joakim Ryan and Nikolai Prokhorkin each scored and Los Angeles beat Winnipeg.

Jack Campbell made 33 saves for the Kings, who have won six of their past eight home games.

Jack Roslovic scored but the Jets were unable to pick up an 11th win in their record-setting November. Winnipeg went 10-3-1, the most wins this month in franchise history. Laurent Brossoit made 32 saves.

Dustin Brown got his fourth point in the past four games with an assist.

CANUCKS 5, OILERS 2

EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) - Tanner Pearson recorded the first four-point game of his career, leading Vancouver over Edmonton.

Pearson had two goals and two assists, and Tyler Graovac, Loui Eriksson and Josh Leivo also scored for the Canucks. Bo Horvat also chipped in with three assists to help Vancouver snap its three-game losing streak.

Connor McDavid and Zack Kassian scored for Edmonton, which dropped its second straight.

Edmonton slipped to 16-9-3, and holds the Pacific Division lead. The Canucks are five points back at 13-10-4.

Jacob Markstrom (8-6-3) made 27 saves in the victory, while Mike Smith (7-7-1) turned aside 33 of 38 shots for Edmonton.

Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh

************************

Sunday’s List of 13: Wrapping up a sports Saturday…….

13) Auburn 48, Alabama 45— There were five TD’s scored in a 5:03 span of this game, late in 2nd quarter. Score was 31-27 Alabama at halftime. Total in the game was 50.5.

Kudos to CBS sideline reporter Jame Erdahl, who had the unenviable task of Interviewing Nick Saban at halftime, when he…….wasn’t happy after Auburn kicked a last second FG. When I say he wasn’t happy, thats a gross understatement.

— Auburn had two pick-6’s, one a 100-yarder that put Tigers up, 37-31.
— Alabama ran the kickoff after the first pick-6 back 100 yards for a TD.
— Alabama outgained Auburn 515-354.
— Penalties: Alabama 13-96; Auburn 9-60.
— Alabama missed a 30-yard FG off the left upright with 2:00 left.

12) Indiana 44, Purdue 41 OT— Hoosiers’ QB Ramsey started for Indiana the last two years, then lost his starting job this offseason; instead of transferring, like so many college QB’s do when they lose their starting job, Ramsey stayed at Indiana because likes his teammates. The other QB got hurt, and Ramsey made the most out of getting his job back.

Indiana winds up wth a winning record in conference play for first time since 1993.

Purdue QB O’Connell is a walk-on who started this season as the 4th-stringer; he threw for 408 yards, three TD’s in a losing cause.

11) Ohio State 56, Michigan 27— Buckeyes win this rivalry game for 8th year in row (4-4 ATS); they’ve scored 118 points in last two meetings, 30+ points in last seven.

10) Syracuse 39, Wake Forest 30 OT— From all we can tell, Orangemen are only 2nd team to score a defensive TD in OT while they were protecting a lead; Arizona State did it against USC 20 or so years ago.

9) Duke 27, Miami 17/Florida 40, Florida State 17:

Miami and Florida State are both 6-6, which is both disappointing and surprising; they’ve got to recruit their home state better. Lot of good high school players in Florida, but everyone recruits the Sunshine State, and hard.

8) Missouri fired football coach Barry Odom, who went 50-50 in four years in Columbia, but lost five of his last six games this season. Still not sure why Missouri left the Big X for the SEC— lack of playing longtime rivals like Kansas/Nebraska has hurt their attendance.

7) Football upsets:
— West Virginia (+13.5) 20, TCU 17
— South Alabama (+10.5) 34, Arkansas State 30
— Duke (+8.5) 27, Miami 17
— Boston College (+8) 26, Pittsburgh 19
— UNLV (+7) 33, Nevada 30 OT
— Northwestern (+7) 29, Illinois 10

6) Cincinnati 72, UNLV 65 OT— Bearcats played their 3rd straight OT game, rallying back from down 33-24 at the half. UNLV was 0-3 in OT games in November; they had four guys play 36:00+.

5) Ohio U 91, Detroit 81— Detroit G Brad Calipari sat out LY, after sitting on his dad’s bench at Kentucky the two years before that. He wanted to play, so he transferred to Detroit, where he is playing 22.2 mpg, scoring 6.2 ppg, making 40.7% of his 3’s.

4) Florida State 63, Purdue 60 OT— Seminoles win Emerald Coast Classic, winning both games this weekend by 3 points. FSU has won seven games in a row since losing their opener at Pitt.

3) Basketball upsets:
— North Dakota (+10.5) 80, Georgia Southern 68
— Prairie View (+8.5) 79, UTSA 72
— Cal-Northridge (+7.5) 73, Fresno State 72
— Navy (+7) 76, Brown 56
— Fort Wayne (+6.5) 71, Grand Canyon 60
— St Francis PA (+6.5) 79, St Joe’s 63
— Northern Arizona (+6) 76, South Dakota 72
— NC-Greensboro (+6) 65, Georgetown 61

2) Richmond 64, Boston College 44— Spiders won six of their first seven games after going 25-40 the last two years; they’ve got wins over Wisconsin, Vandy, BC, power-5 wins.

1) They may have played schedule #350 so far (out of 353), but Liberty is one of only 20 unbeaten teams left in the country, and that is surprising. Flames are 9-0 already.

Bruins stifle Canadiens, 'under' connects
December 1, 2019
By The Associated Press

BOSTON (AP) David Backes scored the deciding goal in his first game in nearly a month, David Pastrnak added his league-leading 25th goal, and the Boston Bruins won their seventh straight game, beating the Montreal Canadiens 3-1 Sunday night.

Backes' first goal of the season came off a feed from David Krejci through the right circle, with 9:31 remaining in the third period.

Backes was in the lineup for the first time since being injured during a scary collision with Ottawa's Scott Sabourin on Nov. 2.

Jake DeBrusk added his sixth goal of the year on a give-and-go with Charlie Coyle two minutes later.

Tuukka Rask made 28 saves for the Bruins.

Boston extended its point streak to 11 games (8-0-3) and entered the third month of the season as the only team without a home regulation loss (11-0-4).

Joel Armia scored, and Carey Price had 31 saves for Montreal. The Canadiens extended their season-high losing streak to eight (0-5-3).

WILD 3, STARS 2, SO.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - Mikko Koivu scored the shootout winner in his 1,000th career game and reached 700th career points with a second-period assist in Minnesota's win over Dallas.

Koivu, playing his 15th season with the Wild, beat Ben Bishop with his trademark move, a backhand over the goalie's left shoulder. Then Alex Stalock, who made 26 saves, stuffed Corey Perry to seal the victory.

Kevin Fiala had a goal and an assist and Zach Parise also scored for the Wild. Both also scored in the first three rounds of the shootout, but Joe Pavelski and Tyler Seguin countered for Dallas.

Blake Comeau and John Klingberg scored for Dallas and Bishop stopped 27 shots. The Stars have lost three in a row after a 14-1-1 run.

Oilers 3, Canucks 2

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) - Leon Draisaitl scored two power-play goals and Edmonton snapped a two-game losing streak with a win over Vancouver.

Josh Archibald also scored for the Oilers (17-9-3). Connor McDavid and Alex Chiasson each had two assists. Mikko Koskinen stopped 30 shots.

Josh Leivo and Brock Boeser scored the Canucks (13-11-4), who are 3-3-0 in their last six games.

Goaltender Jacob Markstrom, making his first back-to-back start of the season, stopped 26 shots for Vancouver.
