Billy was headed to UK (but then he was offered tons of money from Magic). He couldn't then decide to go to UK because it was too late. Florida promised Donovan a lot of different things (like a new stadium) and non of those things have been worked out.

Well he took the job and then decided a few days later to go back to UF. So he could say no. And it was already too late cause he had the press conference with the Magic.

We'll see what happens but I doubt your source has much weight. Of course I know you can't say what position he has.

Hahaha the Kentucky basketball fans are now getting the ND football fan treatment. People who say "they are gonna suck in the future" know nothing about sports. Plenty of ND fans were saying in the 90s that USC would "suck forever" but clearly they were wrong. Programs rise and fall. Sports, especially college athletics, works in cycles. All it takes is one or two really good recruiting classes, maybe a new coach or AD, to take a team from the NIT/lesser bowl games to NCAA final four/BCS bowls.

Kentucky basketball will be back on top soon enough, as will ND football. Programs that have the unparalleled prestige, history, fanbase, facilities, money, and dedication won't be kept down forever.

Best of luck in the coach-hiring process. :toast:

ND will continue to suck as the long as the Cheeseburger is the coach.

You better remove USC from the schedule if you are interested in playing for a National Title.

Why would the 3rd time be a charm for a Clausen, they all suck:
Casey, Rick and Jimmy.

Three douche bags, two of which are already probably pumping gas.

My source works with the university. He has been wrong before but more times than non ... he is right. Like I said, some people are saying Calipari and some Donovan. I hope we don't go below that level (like Ford)

wildcats never should have got rid of tubby smith.

kentucky had a 76 percent win percentage under tubby, and 75 percent win percentage in the SEC.

1 national championship, 3 elite eights, 3 sweet 16's, 10 tourney appearances in 10 years.

kentucky fans are just unrealistic. no coach they find will put up numbers like that.

agree ... but Tubby left on his own.
Sure people were getting crazy with the expectations and put more pressure on him, but he did leave on his own.

I agree that some UK fans are nut balls, but not all of us are. Shoot, I will be happy to make it to the NCAA tournament as of now. lol

The administration is fed up with him. Not with his coaching (which has sucked) ... but he is a complete jerk.

There have been several incidents off the court and he will be out as coach.
The top 2 targets are Calipari and Donovan.

My source tells me a deal is in the work for Donovan and he will accept.
No offense but I heard this rumor on ESPN 3 days ago...So why are you making it like your calling it...They were openly talking about it during every game last night.

Actually ... ESPN has it as all rumors. My source is LEGIT.
On another note, you can go back in past threads about 2 weeks ago and see that I was saying the same thing before ESPN even thought about it.

jbragg10, if your more boisterous kentucky fans didn't put these unreal expectations in place i think tubby still would be there.

like i said the fans are unreal. they expect elite 8 every year and that isn't possible.

now this whole gillepsie thing going down is going to make the program look even worse. what coach wants to get in that pressure cooker?

the fans need to back off imo.

I'm a ND fan...hence the reason I say tradition means JACK SHIT to the here and now...think the recruits these days even know who played on UK/NDs past championship teams...they care about how much money you are going to give their AAU coach...see Michael Beasley...the kid going to Baylor next year etc. College is turning into baseball where people can just straight up pay for recruits now if they really want to...Gary Williams is on record as saying they could have had Michael Beasley at Maryland but it would have cost them 250k... Sadly...unless you're an established winner RIGHT NOW...Duke/UNC/A big east school...paying for recruits is the way back to the top. Sad state of college bball these days!

What I got from the local news website from a beat writer

Rumblings in the Bluegrass State have Billy Gillispie out as Kentucky basketball coach as soon as Friday, with Florida coach Billy Donovan already agreeing in principle to become his hand-picked successor.

A private plane was tracked from going to Gainesville to Mt. Juliet, Ky. (a small airport outside of Lexington) to South Bend, Ind., on Wednesday. Of course, that plane could have been carrying equine supplies. Or it could have been carrying Florida coach Billy Donovan and Kentucky athletic director Mitch Barnhart.

Donovan just completed the second year of a seven year extension he signed last October which pays him an average of $3.5 million annually. According to terms of the contract, there is a one-month window (from March 1 to April 1) in which either side could walk away without significant financial recourse. Donovan would need to provide written notification before April 1 to leave. Otherwise, he would have to pay a $500,000 buyout. Donovan would also pass up a $400,000 loyalty bonus.

Another factor in regards to Florida giving Kentucky permission to speak with Donovan could hinge on the availability of ex-UF assistant and current Virginia Commonwealth coach Anthony Grant. Grant is in deep discussions with Alabama in regards to the head coaching position there. A reliable source has relayed that that Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley wants assurances that Grant would be available if Donovan was to leave. It makes sense. Foley said after the fact that Grant was his first and only choice when Donovan left briefly for the Orlando Magic less than two years ago.

Some other factors:

-- Donovan's eldest son, Billy, is in his junior year at St. Francis High in Gainesville. Would Donovan want to uproot his family before his son's senior year?

-- How would Donovan feel about playing/recruiting against his mentor, Louisville coach Rick Pitino, every year? A reliable source has told me that Pitino is trying to talk Donovan out of the move.

-- A reliable athletic department source told me Thursday afternoon that the story at this point has been driven by "media speculation" and that Donovan is currently in the state of Florida.

I know what you are saying ... but if you get the right coach (like Donovan or Calipari) in a BIG program that has fans, facilities etc ... you will get back to winning.

In all honesty, I have seen the facilities at UK and they are better than most NBA facilities and equipment.

I think the first part is not true.
As far as your questions go ...
1. Yes ... Donovan would leave
2. Donovan would LOVE to go against Pitino
3. Not sure

I just read this on another site I view very often for some news:

— "Drew Deenor is reporting that UK Assistant Tracy Webster has cleaned out his office and is moving out of the UK basketball facility. Take that from what you wish….."

— "I am told that Billy Donovan’s contract has a clause that requires no buyout from him for any period between March 1 to April 1. Time is of the essence."

I just called UK athletic department and asked for Tracy Webster. She said he is not in the office. I asked if he is still on staff and she said there will be a press conference that will disclose that information later. hahahahahah

I am being told now (from my source) that Donovan will be the next coach. He could be wrong (has once before), but I will take his word.

Pitino left for money and Tubby left on his own. Billy made this decision easy with his off court behavior. lol @ some of these people.
