What about Travis Ford at Okie State, he would seem to be a natural fit. Not the expierence as Donovan but did a good job at OSU and tons of potential.

Wow ... just reported by 2 people close to the situation said that Calipari will be the first choice. Should be interesting.

I think UK wants someone with star power (like Donovan or Calipari). They don't want Ford because he is an "upcoming" coach like Gillispie was. I think they are done with that.

They are trying to make a hire like North Carolina did with Roy Williams when they canned Doherty. That choice in my opinion should be Calipari

money is not an issue. UK has a lot of it. Trust me.

I know whoever they get, they're going to open up the paycheck. My point is how much money do you really need? is there a big difference from 3.5 million to 4 million or whatever they'll pay? Money can't buy happiness.

From my understanding ... Gillispie will be out on Friday and Donovan will be announced by Tuesday (Monday is what I am hearing).

So before your source said Donovan is in on Monday or Tuesday and now another source says they want Calapari?

My source has said Donovan will be the coach. However, a local media member close to the situation is saying Calipari is the choice. Who knows at this point, but I do know (like I said previousluy) that Gillispie is gone.

when did florida play baylor? jk

i hope you guys give gillespe 1 more year! we werent happy w/ self after 2 years! now he is next to god in lawrence! the whole irogant thang is something that every succesful coach in the country has! this guy knows his stuff, a&m program was next to dead before he got there!

if you fire him, you better be damn sure u can do better! un like last time!

Like what?
Do they have basketball facilities like UK?
Do they have a sell out EVERY game (or any games)?
- Did you watch the UK game tonight against ND? There were more UK fans at that game than ND. Did you watch the Florida game the other night against Baylor ... there was NO ONE in the stands. No support.
Do they get the money they need like UK basketball?
He has made 2 NIT's in a row and not much coming back.

Why would he want to stay at a football school?

Like I said ... it has NOTHING to do with his X's and O's or his winning percentage. He has had some off the court issues and treats people in the administration like crap. He is being fired because his is not a good ambassador for the university.

Jbragg: I saw in your other thread you are taking memphis. Does this speculation affect your pick at all?

No. I think Memphis rolls in this game. From my source, who works with the university, the #1 choice is Donovan. If Memphis gets to the Final Four and UK doesn't have a coach by then ... it might be a distraction then

Ford would get UK because he bleeds UK blue. I'm not sure if Doherty is a good analogy. He alienated a lot of people at UNC because of his abrasive personality. If it's Donovan, I wonder if Austin Rivers (Doc's kid) will still be a part of the 2011 UF recruiting class. He's already committed.

Last time Billy was rumored to be going to UK after Tubby was fired, fans on a UK forum said "sources" had Billy going there. His wife looking at houses and schools. And of course none of that was true.

He's is happy in Gainesville. Of course he would love more fans at the games. But if he didn't want to move his family to Orlando, why would he pack up and go to UK?

I think it's all just crazy rumors flying around and desperation for UK fans hoping to get a big name.

lol ... okay. I guess you forgot the Rick Pitino era at UK as well. A guy from Columbus telling me about basketball. lol

Worry about your sucky football team that plays in the weakest conference and gets embarrassed in every bowl game when they play good teams.

Billy was headed to UK (but then he was offered tons of money from Magic). He couldn't then decide to go to UK because it was too late. Florida promised Donovan a lot of different things (like a new stadium) and non of those things have been worked out.

All time shit is overrated...Most of UK's history is from Rupp era...Let's see you filter all those categories to the last ten years... I agree history and prestige makes you proud of your program etc. but it has jack shit to do with the here and now. That program might be good again sometime, but they let Pitino go and that is their curse. The Wildcats will always be Pitino's whipping boys... His program is legit.

I hate UK, but let's not be stupid Woodyhedgerson. Also, I am a diehard Buckeye fan.

Had Slick Rick not been a whore to the money, he would have been coaching the US Olympic team this past year instead of the Fucking Douche Bag Cock Sucker Mother Fucker, The FUCKING RAT HIMSELF.

UK with the right coach could dominate, the SEC sucks in hoops and UF is not going to even sniff another Final Four anytime soon. Bruce Pearl will not win a National Title with his style of play. I like Pearl and I love their style, but it won't cut down the nets.

Hahaha the Kentucky basketball fans are now getting the ND football fan treatment. People who say "they are gonna suck in the future" know nothing about sports. Plenty of ND fans were saying in the 90s that USC would "suck forever" but clearly they were wrong. Programs rise and fall. Sports, especially college athletics, works in cycles. All it takes is one or two really good recruiting classes, maybe a new coach or AD, to take a team from the NIT/lesser bowl games to NCAA final four/BCS bowls.

Kentucky basketball will be back on top soon enough, as will ND football. Programs that have the unparalleled prestige, history, fanbase, facilities, money, and dedication won't be kept down forever.

Best of luck in the coach-hiring process. :toast:

Every "prestige" program (football and basketball) goes through struggles. It happens. Look at basketball. Within the last 10 years, these teams struggled and rose again (or about to rise again): UCLA (Lavin), Arizona (now), North Carolina (Doherty), Louisville (end of Crum era), Indiana (now), Purdue (end of Keady era) and a few more. I don't want to hear that your past doesn't matter ... those words usually come from a person who supports a team that doesn't have the past and are jealous of the great tradition some of the top teams have.

Exactly!
