I believe Martinez is the better pitcher, but Liriano has really owned the Cardinals this season and the lefty has a solid 3.14 ERA at home. Perhaps he did fix his problems in Monday’s bullpen session. The Pirates have won Liriano’s past four outings in this series. Since both pitchers are capable of a bad game, go over that total.
3K NEW YORK YANKEES -142 (LOST)
I know that Verlander has pitched very well this year, but he is 0-4 with a 4.84 ERA in seven career starts in this park and I see him struggling again vs a New York offense that is in a good groove right now. Masahiro Tanaka has pitched well this year, especially of late as he has a 1.35 ERA in his last 3 starts. The Yanks have a big edge on the mound and with the way their offense has been playing of late they could have a slight edge on offense as well. Let’s go with the Yankees in this one.
3K MILWAUKEE OVER 9.5 -117 (EASY BLOWOUT WINNER 11 RUNS)
The Mets starter is a reliever who has only made three starts this year. The Brewers starter hasn’t gone over six innings all year. I have a feeling this is going to be a long, protracted game in which the bullpen is used liberally. That usually means a high scoring game and that’s what I expect here. I’m predicting one of the two teams goes for double digits. Let’s take the over.
3K MIAMI -1.5 -119 (LOST)
Fernandez has arguably been the best pitcher in baseball as of late. He has only allowed a combined three runs in his last six starts, and has not allowed a run in his last two starts so there is no way I can go against him. Also Arizona has struggled big time at home, and they haven’t been scoring many runs lately so I just don’t see them beating Fernandez in this one.
