I like Jerry Buss vs. Gabe Kaplan dead money battle.

Where would you put the age at pick-em?

How about Eric Siedel v Howard Lederer match-up?

Do they honestly grade all the players? I mean if you are out on the first day, do they say you are 1550th and the guy 2 minutes later is 1549th? I have a hard time believing they will get deadly accurate counts on these head-to-head matchups because the vast majority of these players will go down in the first two days when nobody really cares what place they finished in.

WB - good point, for example:

25 Sam Farha -122
26 Chris Moneymaker +112

If they both go broke day one who wins especially if they are at different tables (most likely) - perhaps the tournement has some sort of system to track players places as they bust out.

LAS VEGAS – (PRESS RELEASE) -- The world's richest sporting event keeps getting richer - and so do its champions.

The winner of this year's World Series of Poker World Championship event, which begins tomorrow, will walk out of Binion's Horseshoe Casino on May 28 with an estimated $4.5 million in cash. But the top finisher of the No-Limit Texas Hold 'Em event won't be the only millionaire that day: based on this year's record participation, the first four finishers will each win $1 million or more. The top 180 finishers will receive prize money in excess of $10,000.

The mammoth payouts will come from a total prize pool of more than $41 million, a new poker tournament world record. Last year's World Series of Poker tournament prize money was just under $22 million, and 2003 World Champion Chris Moneymaker won a top prize of $2.5 million.

And while this year's prize money is unprecedented, so is the number of people vying for the huge stacks of cash that have made the World Series of Poker the most prestigious event of its kind.

Poker players from all over the globe have plunked down the $10,000 it takes to compete in the world's most prestigious poker tournament. Hundreds more have won a place in the event through a variety of qualifying tournaments called satellites.

In all, 2,000 players are expected to go for the tournament's top prize, and a total of 10,462 have already played in this year's first 32 World Series of Poker events. Both numbers represent record participation for a live poker tournament.

"The response has been astounding," said Howard Greenbaum, a World Series of Poker tournament executive. "All of the top players from around the globe are here, and more rising stars are arriving every day. There's no question the 35th Annual World Series of Poker will be the greatest poker event ever organized."

The World Championship Event begins at 1 p.m. tomorrow and will continue daily through May 28, when the winner of the coveted World Series of Poker gold bracelet is expected to be decided around midnight.

The World Series of Poker was hosted for the first time in 2004 by Harrah's Entertainment, Inc., which purchased the rights to the tournament earlier this year.

theswami- I have 2.40 on Ivey at 180-1 to win, and 1.00 at 250-1 I think on Hanson, its over 200-1. I put $50 into my Pinnacle account from my poker account to bet the derby, and they have that 7% rebate and so I had 3.40 left, so I'm taking a shot.

How can this kid still be considered dead money. He finishes 10th above and in the top 5 (maybe even 2nd) in a WPT event yet to be aired.

I think I heard that Moneymaker only owned like 20% of his seat in the WSOP, he sold shares to his friends and father, anyone know?

I didnt remember that Moneymaker had that big of a chip lead coming into. Did Farha ever get the lead over him?

from what i heard - he didn't have the money to make vegas for the tourney - so his father and a friend gave him money to make it to vegas (around $2,000 each) in exchange for 20% of any winnings. so he moneymaker turned $40 into $1.5M with the other $1M split between dad and a friend who turned about $2,000 into $500k.

not bad all the way around.

So now with the 2400 players entered and the 2000 alternates, I think that is what I read at pokerpages.com, does anyone now think maybe the entry fee needs to be raised? Now people are being shutout due to no room.

Event #32 A-5 Draw Lowball

Buy-In $1,500
Prize Pool $253,920
Entries 184

normresult.jpg

Winner Norm Ketchum (Rockford, IL) $84,500. Norm looks to be in some kind of trance in that photo. I always liked draw lowball. Played a lot of three draw lowball in the service (many moons ago) it was called 3 to the wheel - 3 draws with betting after each..

Anecdote from Event 29 Limit Hold Em won by Johnny "World" Hennigan. Patty Gallagher – A colorful personality who was the temperamental lone female finalist. Gallagher, (a.k.a. “Ball Buster”) was born in the Philippines and now lives in San Diego. She had the chip lead at one point, then watched in horror as a terrible run of cards wiped out her chance of victory. Gallagher was not too pleased with her third-place finish. She stood up, gave everyone a “middle finger salute,”

and stormed away from the final table. Gallagher received $91,120.
