When i was in grade school and Shaq was leaving LSU at the time, he was in Indy for the final 4 as a spectator, I tried to get autograph and his exact words were

"GET OUT OF MY FACE PUNK" .......Hated him ever since and it is ashame he is not living the life destined for him

Nicest guy I met was maybe surprisingly Jim Calhoun. I am sure there are others but that is all I can remember right now. also met Dick Vitale but he is an idiot.

I played basketball with Shaq inbetween the offseason of him leaving the Lakers and going to the Heat at the local health club I am a member of.

Him and about 4 other people show up and all of a sudden there was this 7 foot guy stepping on a treadmill next to me.
He was cool as could be.

After he got done running I followed him around as inconspicuously as I could without looking like a stalker onto the basketball court.

We ended up playing several 4 on 4 pickup games that lasted almost an hour.
I was actually on his team and we dominated. Can you imagine that?

A team with shaq dominates 4 local guys in a gym.

Anyway this was a saturday morning about 8 AM.

Once the basketball game at the gym was over shaq said he had to go to the LSU football game.
He left the gym and LSU was playing against Oregon St in the first game of the football season.

I was watching the LSU game on TV that day and they interviewed shaq at the LSU game on TV.
He was wearing the same clothes at the game he was wearing in the basketball game at the gym.

Shaq was cool as could be.

All I have are second hand accounts, but a good buddy met Micheal Jordan at some summer basketball player tour. Some kid wanted an autograph, and Jordan smirked at him like he was some piece of garbage. I back this up with another good buddy that he and his family worked for the Wizards organization. So, they've been around a few pricks. They were insistent that Jordan is the king of them all. One of the stories go: Jordan's pick up line with women was, "suck my dick?" If they said no, he's laugh and say, "just kidding."

Surprisingly, it was Wilt Chamberlain. I was walking through the RIO in Vegas and came upon him playing a .05c slot machine paying on multiple lines. For some reason, he felt he should get a payout on one combination...although it was clear to anyone that could see the machine...that he was not entitled to a payout at all. He was talking to a slot person and I went up to say "hello". I wasn't even asking for an autograph. He just glared at me and said, "Can't you see I'm talking to someone?" He wasn't at the time, so I just told him he was wasting everyone's time arguing about a payout he didn't deserve. He really got pissed at that. I mean if he WAS right, we're talking about a 20 coin payout.....a freakin' DOLLAR!!!! Didn't realize he was that CHEAP!!

Not sure if it's been mentioned yet, but most of the assholes seem to be black and most of the good ones seem to be white. I wonder why that is?

Only a racist person could make a comment like this.

Grant Long as mediocre and forgettable as he was is the biggest prick I encountered. Penny Hardaway was the coolest and I met him during his 1st Team All NBA years.

at the time I was dating this girl who was a bartender at this nice place in Syracuse. Derrick Coleman was in town for a golf tournament Bohiem was having for coaches vs. cancer. so coleman is there getting the VIP treatment and such, but apparently he didn't feel he had to pay anything. after my girlfriend asked for the money several times for his drinks he finally whipped out a $20 ripped it up and threw it in her face. He then proceeded to go behind the bar, grab a bottle of 1800 tequilla and do a 7 count straight out of the bottle. all this happened 8 feet in front of me and left me in shock. later on that evening he had one of the girls he was with ask my girlfriend, who was an absolute dime piece, if she wanted to join them for the rest of the night when they leave. she said no repeatedly saying her boyfriend was here so the girl left. 5 minutes later she came back and said Derrick would give her $1,000 dollars if she would join them for the rest of the night. It's too bad because being a huge Syracuse fan I had obviously always been a huge D.C. fan....i am no longer.

Another time Carmello Anthony was back in town drinking at this bar my buddy owned. He proceeded to run up a bill in excess of $1,500. Apparently all these star athletes don't think they have to pay tabs because he refused to pay the tab when my buddy was asking and tried running out of the place. After he took off and ran into his limo, my friend ran after him, and said he was going to have to call the police if he didn't pay up. He rolled down the window and threw a bunch of $100's out the window at him.

I laughed as i read this. derrick Coleman filed for bankruptcy a couple years ago. Love how they can buy or try to buy girls that cost 4 figures but have a tab for food and drinks, no way.

Just because a player is great and was an MVP doesn't mean he can't be an A-Hole as a person as you can see by my story above about Yaz...

I realize that, so I was asking what happened to give him that opinion of Jim Rice.

The ironic thing is, being an avid Sox fan in the 70's, 80's - Yaz was my favorite player before Rice came along. What an amazing year Yaz had in '67

Was about 10 seconds from kicking Jaromir Jagr's ass in the Pittsburgh Airport. He wouldn't sign an autograph for a friend. I told him he was being a dick & he didn't like that. He thought I would be intimidated if he stepped up to me. I got back in his face and he backed down. He was a major asshole with a douchebag mullet. I wish to this day he would have swung on me. He needed to be beat down. He did sign for my buddy, but that was after a crowd gathered.

A guy wanting to be left alone in an airport is a dick? You know, some people would use that same term for a grown man who begs another man for a signature.

Lance Armstrong is notorious for being an ass in person. No surprise to anyone who watched his Oprah interview.

Wilt hands down
Tried to get an autograph when I was about 13. I was at the 1976 Olympics with my dad. Saw him after some soccer event I went to. He said " no kid,get lost". My dad cursed him out and we walked away. Years later saw him at USOPEN Tennis.....I heckled him told him Willis Reed was better then he was..... My wife had to drag me away because I could not stop heckling him.....I hated him, never asked for another autograph again from anyone. Really shed tears when he died. But I meet Bill Walton about 3 years ago and the man was so cool and nice. He talked to me for a while about hoops, especially UCLA....Wooden,etc one good guy

Not trying to be a dick, just seriously asking-what is the allure of an autograph. I know its just cool to talk to someone famous, but its not like you can do anything with a signature. I understand you were 13 so Im not really talking about you-just in general

Ray Rice came to the University of Maryland gym and played basketball and took pictures with a lot of people over a year ago. Was pretty cool from what I saw. Also met Ryan Zimmerman and he was cool too. Never really met a player that was a prick.

I think the same way. As a kid, sure an autograph is cool but as an adult, I would never run after any of these athletes.

A guy is a dick because he doesn't want to sign probably his 100th autograph in a day while he's at the airport? This sounds like you were the giant douche and most likely Jagr would've beat your ass.
