Yeah this is pretty obvious. 20 years ago baseball had Griffey, Thomas, Clemens, Johnson, etc and everyone had cool nicknames and was a household name.

Now if Mike Trout walked into a convenience store, most of us wouldn't even be able to recognize him.

It isn't because he isn't a great player, it's just more of a niche sport.

Great example (Mike Trout) --- all he's done is finished 2nd in AL MVP (2012 and 2013), and then won the AL MVP in 2014.

All he's done is led MLB in WAR (wins above replacement) in 2012, 2013, 2014 --- and then 2nd in 2015.

In the 1980s, when baseball cards made a comeback, kids would be digging through boxes, trying to find the Mike Trout card. He'd be Griffey + Darryl Strawberry + Cal Ripken.

These days, the only people who geek-out for Mike Trout? Fantasy baseball players, and people who talk about WAR statistics.

The NFL isn't falling in popularity anytime soon but I think once Brady/Manning retire that it will be a little "star-less" as far as crossover megastars go. Those guys came along at the perfect time to rival one another, played in tons of close games, big playoff games, right before social media/internet REALLY took off etc.

It takes so much mental and physical prep to be a NFL QB now that most of them have no personality or crossover appeal. Similar to how modern tennis players have no personality either. Aaron Rodgers is of similar caliber to Brady/Manning and he really isn't even all that big of a star compared to them.

Who is the biggest SUPERSTAR QB to come into the NFL in the last 15 years? Rodgers and then probably Andrew Luck and neither 1 of those guys are on Brady/Manning's level of name recognition. 15 years is a long time. Then it is almost impossible for defensive players to be huge stars now compared to the past. There are a few but not many. Another thing is the athletes are way more nitpicked nowadays than before. That kinda takes the allure off of everyone.

A lot of people don't understand that there's a big difference between Super-Stars & Stars.

A Super-Star go down as one of the greatest, in an elite group all-time.

As of right now there are only 3 Super Stars in the NBA (LeBron & Durant) with Curry just now reaching that level but still borderline as we'll have to see if it continues.

Some guys might teeter in-between SuperStar & Star Status, but never reach the elite level.
Let's use Russell Westbrook & Chris Paul as examples.
2 terrific players, but only stars because you simply & clearly don't put him in Jordan, Magic, or Lebron's category.

There aren't even any great centers in the game like there used to be.

Anthony Davis might get there but he's not in Shaq, Hakeem, D. Robinson, etc.'s group.

All of the above is why the league lacks top-talent as it's dwindled through the years...

you don't think Russell Westbrook is elite? Are you watching? (Seriously)

Why did this get moved?

Thread will just die and it isn't even about who the 2nd best player is anymore.

Why will it die?

You're not giving the regulars in this section enough credit.

As for it getting off topic, who's the culprits behind that? (as usual)

Just in general, threads like this more for the main forum.

Sub-forums usually gambling/posting plays.

Why is a thread getting off topic so bad? People can still post in it. It isn't like it got off topic in a bad way.

Moving a thread that has multiple pages in the offshore forum to a subforum makes no sense.

If you're The Funky Monkey and you put all that effort into posting and then the thread just gets moved, why even bother putting effort into posts?

Are you having a DFS breakdown or something pats?

You've really been trolling me since that discussion about DFS & sports betting.

Sorry I'm not gonna play along.

I make my points & eventually move on...

No clue what you are talking about. Moving the thread was stupid. Some of us are adults and when we discuss things, we don't really get as flustered as you. The Choptalks, the HarryCareys, the Renochazz, etc...If I knew the thread was just going to get moved to the wasteland, I wouldn't have bothered posting in it. Neither would the others I'm sure.

I don't think anyone is having a breakdown but you, you get overly emotional about every single subject. Some of us can discuss things without our blood pressure going through the roof.

Moving the thread was obviously wrong when a few of us were still discussing the subject. A thread gets some traction on the mainboard, gee I'll move it. Hmm, I wonder why the RX isn't doing as well as it could be?

Do you realize that you just described yourself?!?

Maybe you're reading things/posts by me & others & taking them a different way than they are meant to me.

That wouldn't surprise me because one cannot hear someone elses tone of voice or facial expressions when they are typing like you can talking and they are smiling when saying it, or saying it with a voice of reason & low tone of voice.

You don't know me & obviously don't know that I'm the most layed back person all of my acquaintances know.

So to think you have me pegged is absurd.

As for therx, pretty sure it's doing just fine.

It's become very clear lately since this DFS setback that your attitude has changed in the same way it's changed your business propositions in it...

Bro I have no issue with you, lol.

I don't care what your opinion is on DFS, I'm not sure what you are talking about. My attitude is consistent on this site and I would say a good portion of the posters enjoy reading my posts. Trust me on that. Business propositions? Where do you get this stuff? Sorry myself and other posters don't think you know everything about every single subject. If you disagree with the almighty Hache Man then you must have an axe to grind.

When I make a lot of posts, others make a lot of posts and then a thread just gets moved and now to keep posting in the thread they would have to come to the NBA forum to find it, you don't think that is a little suboptimal for everyone?

Where in this thread did I get emotional? I asked you why you moved it and you comeback telling me I'm having a problem because your DFS posts or something. No, I actually just think moving it made 0 sense. I'm sorry me thinking you moving a post to the wasteland offends you.

Pats you are really making yourself look lost by referring to this part of the site in general as a "wasteland" when last I looked there were 600 + members viewing it.

For this type of subject matter? I mean, usually those threads are the main board.

Look at the next 3 pages of this board. It is about NBA picks.

I didn't mean wasteland in general, I meant for the type of thread this is. That should be pretty obvious.

NFL threads don't get moved to the NFL forum. It just seemed very random to me. I figured it was a mistake since those types of threads usually don't get moved to the sub-forums. But I guess I have an "axe to grind" because of DFS or something, LOL. Do I seem like I'd get that emotionally unhinged to you? I'm one of the most level headed posters on the site.

Pats and others post in thread

thread gets a few pages, people going back and forth, thread gets moved

Pats says why thread moved?

Pats axe to grind with HacheMan

You honestly can't see how dumb that sounds?

When I asked why it got moved did I say "Hey Hache, what the fuck are you doing? That was stupid"

No I asked it like a normal human being. How would that suggest I am angry in any way?

Pats honestly who are you trying to kid here.

You have tried to disagree & pick apart every opinion i have.

You think you're dealing with a fool here?

Heck you've taken this thread to rubber room material.

And ill beat ya to the punch with "might as well....it'll get as much activity in there as it would here"...

If you want, you can post this thread in the main board and say "Is PatsFan wrong about the thread being moved"

I think most of the good posters will agree with me it was puzzling.

Like I said, it wouldn't get any traction down here and besides us going back and forth I was obviously correct. It would be near the bottom of the page by now.

I feel like you know I am right but it's just tough to backdown.

As far as me disagreeing with you, that is just what the emotional posters say. If I disagreed with you it is because I thought you were wrong about something. I disagree with a poster like Choptalk all the time, but he is an adult and we both learn from an exchange of ideas, that is how this message board thing is supposed to work. You should try it sometime rather than thinking anyone who says "No Hache, this is incorrect" is trying to challenge you or something.

What did I even reply to you on after the DFS thread? I don't even remember. That athletes have better foot speed now? Oh shit, there is a revelation.

You moved it an hour and a half ago and nobody has posted since besides you and I going back and forth about why it was moved.

Think maybe Pats is right every once in a while and not out to get you? Jeez man. It isn't personal. I'm sorry, it isn't. I just think you made a mistake.

hache since we're both pro-RX guys who like this board, why not delete all our pointless blabbling from post #46 on and move it back to the main board? Seems like a win-win.

And lastly, if I reply to you a lot that isn't me "going after you" That is just what I do. I facilitate discussion on here. Some guys make the same 3-4 jokes everytime and that is how they use the site, I use it to exchange ideas about sports, business, finance, politics, whatever.
