You never answered my question about Christians in Nagasaki. Didn't they just get what they deserved?

I'ms sorry, sorry for you. I'm sorry you are so filled with hate that you really believe that.

What did anyone do in Nagasaki to get what they deserved?

Well you use the same logic for the people of 9/11. Earlier you stated that the people deserved to die for being "capitalist pigs".
Nagasaki was home to the largest Catholic population in Japan, most of it driven underground because Christianity was outlawed in Japan. The Catholic church has been responsible for 100x more Muslim deaths in history so by the same reasoning you use for justifying 9/11, you also have to cheer for the deaths of the people in Nagasaki.

No I don't feel that way of course but you should if you feel the same about 9/11.

The movie "Midway" about real events mentioned earlier in this thread is on American Movie Classics right now, if anyone cares. The movie is fairly accurate, not 100% but more than most Hollywood "true" stories.

'Tora tora tora' is my favourite Pacific theatre film, impressive directing, they really caught the build up.

The more recent 'Pearl Harbour' was a fxxxing joke, which was a pity, I was really looking forward to it when it came out.

eek - Agreed. "Tora Tora Tora!" was pretty much a documentary with actors. No bullshit love story mucking things up. "Midway" also had some extra storylines that wasted time, but not nearly as much as "Pearl Harbor" did. That 75% chick movie. The attack scenes in the elast hour were good.

Wilheim and others,

If you would like to see an EXCELLENT docudama concerning the dropping of the atomic bomb on Japan, then you need to see a film called "Hiroshima" made in 1995. It was a combined Canadian-Japanese production that showed both the US and Japanese points of view. It picks up right when FDR dies and Truman takes over as President and ends with the surrender.

Here is a link that describes it:

Floyd, thanks for the link, I am pretty sure I have seen it. I recently watched a History channel documetary on the event, it may have been "Hiroshima". Roger Spottiswoode one of the directors, has done several fine films, including "As the Band Played On" about the beginning of the Aids epedemic.

quote:
if the cold war started in 1917 when the bolsheviks seized power (for a week) then why were the US and Russia allies in WW2?

Its interesting what you would consider an ally. You could even argue that Germany and the Soviet Union were "allies" when they signed the non-agression pact.

Even though there was no direct or indirect hostility since 1917, there sure were a lot of rivalry and tension. Fighting on the same side for a lesser evil (Germany) does not make someone your friend.

He wont listen to us nor does he seem to care. I think the Iraq war is yesterday's news anyways...it happened, it was wrong and we can't get in a time machine and go back in time to fix it.

exactly. this country (usa) needs to MOVE ON, dont forget it but just move on. sh*t happens everyday and people are killed, that day was no different. americans are just too damn ignorant to figure out that bush is using that day to get re-elected, its his only hope. deep inside it was the best thing that could have happened to bush and he knows it.
