I agree it will eventually pass....and over the next 2 years I hope they do a better job of laying out what EXACTLY passing this bill means. Right now, there would be minimal (if any) tax and the state would spend more money regulating it than actually gaining revenue. What's the benefit? So a bunch of pot heads can get BS "medical prescriptions" for it? Sure, there are some people who could use it as a medical benefit...but I live in the real world and I'm not buying it. This needs to be better conceived and right now, the way the bill was written, it was doomed for failure.

The illegal drug cartels and the street level sellers who deal pot on our street corners and who are the only suppliers of drugs to our kids - thank you for your support.

I don't think anyone would be against people using it who truly need it for medical reasons.

But your average unemployed pothead also takes unfair advantage of it. Every stoner in town can get their hands on a prescription. Way too many loopholes

Now they will be using our tax money to get high. smh

you honestly think that these people you are worried about can't get reefer now? how would they be "stoners" if so? why not collect some tax on it and make it available to the people who need it but dont have access (only people that can't get it now)....seems like the logic in your post doesn't quite work

You're an idiot. Using "our" tax money? Having a make believe job doesn't mean you are required to file. So what about the billions upon billions that are wasted every year on the war on drugs?

I just don't understand how anyone can be against this.

You have to be either selfish or simply a monster to not want sickly and/or dying people to have something that can help them or at least ease their pain.

Loopholes?

Big deal, who cares.

Loopholes can be fixed later.

And why would people against it be concerned about people who are 'pot heads' abusing it?

People like that get it anyhow and always will!

So it's only the ill that will suffer now.

Shame on everyone who voted no....

Where did I say that? It will definitely cut cost/spending dramatically. All the money used on law enforcement, jails, judicial system, rehab facilities, and many more things could be used for so much more. It's all a business. Everyone gets a cut starting from the top. Just think how much of a financial loss all these companies would take if marijuana was legalized. Prisons, private jails, tobacco companies, pharmaceutical companies, doctors, lawyers etc..........

And the drug companies have lobbyists, who ensure the Congress continues to vote in the best interest of the corporations.

Billionaire casino magnate influences vote again. Sheldon Adelson pumped over 5.5 million dollars of his own money to defeat this measure. Now why would a non-Floridian casino owner spend so much of his money to defeat this measure. The same guy who is spending millions on trying to ban online gambling and gave 15 million to Newt Gingrich in 2012's presidential primary.

Now, I don't care if you are for or against it, but as a Floridian aren't you pissed some outside casino owner is throwing millions of his own money to defeat a bill affecting only Floridians?

too many loop holes for people that does not need it

I see you a lot in these threads bashing pot smokers like Steve from Florida. Why are you so against MJ? Medical studies time and again have shown the benefits far outweigh the negative outcomes? Why do you care?

This thread was started the week after a Florida ballot initiative failed to pass in Nov 2014. 60% was required and it only pulled just over 58%.

Last fall in Nov 2016 a renewed ballot initiative passed with just over 70% of the vote.

Legal dispensaries will be open and operating statewide no later than next summer and possibly sooner.

Approximately 40% of the USA now enjoys adult legal access to marijuana.

Legal marijuana is now a multi-billion dollar industry in eight states and smaller volumes are being legally moved in 15 other states. These industries have created thousands of legal, taxable jobs for Americans nationwide and billions of sales tax dollars legally collected and paid to the states therein, funding school systems, drug treatment and drug education courses

Within the next six years at least 15 more states will join in and legalize marijuana for production and sensibly regulated commercial distribution. At that point upwards of 60-65% of Americans will be able to legally buy quality cannabis products with money that for over 100 years went to feed organized crime and criminal cartels.

It is without question the most enlightened social and business paradigm shift of the 21st century
