GAME: Toronto Blue Jays (28-31) at Oakland Athletics (26-32)
DATE/TIME: Wednesday, June 07 - 3:35 PM EST
WHERE: Oakland Coliseum, Oakland, California
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Oakland Athletics attempt to complete their first series sweep of the season when they host the Toronto Blue Jays for the finale on Wednesday afternoon. Oakland also is looking to finish its six-game homestand with a winning record after posting a 4-1 victory on Tuesday in which Khris Davis drove in a pair of runs.

Davis served as Oakland's designated hitter after exiting Monday's 5-3 triumph with left calf soreness while Matt Joyce was kept out of the lineup due to a strained left quadriceps. Ryon Healy delivered a run-scoring double on Tuesday, giving him 10 RBIs during his four-game streak. The Blue Jays had won three in a row on the road before dropping their first two meetings with the Athletics. Josh Donaldson has been swinging a hot bat since returning from the disabled list, hitting safely in eight of 10 contests.

TV: 3:35 p.m. ET, MLB Network, Sportsnet (Toronto)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Blue Jays LH Francisco Liriano (3-2, 5.94 ERA) vs. Athletics RH Jharel Cotton (3-6, 5.11)

Liriano returned from a stint on the disabled list to toss five solid innings Friday, allowing two runs and four hits in a victory over the New York Yankees. The 33-year-old Dominican has served up only four homers over 33 1/3 frames this season but three in 10 2/3 innings over his last three outings. Liriano owns a 5-4 record and 4.23 ERA in 16 career appearances (14 starts) against Oakland.

Cotton lost his third consecutive start Thursday as he yielded five runs - one earned - on four hits and four walks in 5 2/3 innings at Cleveland. The 25-year-old rookie from the Virgin Islands has struggled at home, going 1-3 with an 8.27 ERA while surrendering five or more runs in three of his four outings. Cotton will be facing Toronto for the first time in his career.

WALK-OFFS

1. The Athletics optioned INF/OF Matt Olson to Triple-A Nashville to make room for RHP Jesse Hahn, who started Wednesday's game and recorded the victory after allowing an unearned run in six innings.

2. Toronto placed 2B Devon Travis (knee) on the 10-day disabled list and recalled RHP Dominic Leone from Triple-A Buffalo.

3. Oakland LHP Sean Doolittle (shoulder) will make a rehab appearance for Nashville on Wednesday and will be activated over the weekend barring a setback.

GAME: Boston Red Sox (32-25) at New York Yankees (32-23)
DATE/TIME: Wednesday, June 07 - 7:05 PM EST
WHERE: Yankee Stadium, Bronx, New York
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Boston Red Sox struck first in a key American League East battle and pulled within one game of the first-place New York Yankees with a 5-4 win in Tuesday's series opener. The Red Sox will try to join the Yankees atop the division when they visit New York for the second of the three-game series on Wednesday.

Boston is surging with 11 wins in its last 15 games and displayed its power both at the plate and on the mound in Tuesday's triumph. The Red Sox got home runs from Mitch Moreland, Andrew Benintendi and Hanley Ramirez while Joe Kelly, Matt Barnes and Craig Kimbrel took turns approaching and reach 100 mph on the radar gun over the final three innings to seal the tight win. The Yankees have dropped five of their last eight games and could not come up with the big hits from the biggest part of the order on Tuesday as slugging sensation Aaron Judge struck out against Kelly in the seventh and versus Kimbrel in the ninth. Judge will try to add to his major league home run lead on Wednesday against Red Sox right-hander Rick Porcello, who goes up against CC Sabathia in a battle of former Cy Young Award winners.

TV: 7:05 p.m. ET, MLB Network, NESN (Boston), YES (New York)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Red Sox RH Rick Porcello (3-7, 4.24 ERA) vs. Yankees LH CC Sabathia (6-2, 4.12)

Porcello posted a quality start in each of his last two outings but suffered the loss in both while yielding a total of five runs and 19 hits in 12 1/3 innings. The New Jersey native surrendered at least eight hits in each of his last five turns and is 1-3 in that span. Porcello held New York to five hits in 6 2/3 innings on April 26 but issued four walks and was charged with three runs - two earned - in a loss.

Sabathia is a lot closer to his Cy Young form with wins in four straight starts, during which he allowed a total of four earned runs in 24 1/3 innings. The California native pumped up his strikeout numbers with 22 in 17 1/3 innings across his last three turns. Sabathia is 13-13 with a 4.48 ERA in 35 career starts against the Red Sox, including 1-1 last season.

WALK-OFFS

1. Yankees LHP Aroldis Chapman (shoulder) is targeting a mid-June return date from the 10-day DL.

2. Benintendi is 5-for-8 with three home runs in his last two games - one more hit than he managed in his previous 10 outings combined.

3. New York DH Matt Holliday hit safely in each of the last seven games and has six extra-base hits in that span.

Preview: Pirates at Orioles

GAME: Pittsburgh Pirates (26-32) at Baltimore Orioles (30-26)
DATE/TIME: Wednesday, June 07 - 7:05 PM EST
WHERE: Oriole Park at Camden Yards, Baltimore, Maryland
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Baltimore Orioles led the majors with 253 home runs last season and are beginning to find their power stroke in 2017. The Orioles will try to follow up a four-homer performance and earn a sweep of the two-game interleague series when they host the Pittsburgh Pirates in the finale on Wednesday.

Baltimore entered the series in ninth place in the majors in home runs with 76 but broke out the thunder against the Pirates on Tuesday as Seth Smith and Chris Davis homered once and Jonathan Schoop belted a pair, including a two-run shot in the ninth that sent the game into extra innings before Mark Trumbo's RBI single won it in the 10th. Davis has hit safely in seven straight games and belted three homers in that span. Trying to keep the ball in the park for the Pirates on Wednesday will be right-hander Chad Kuhl, who opposes Baltimore lefty Wade Miley. Pittsburgh has some thump in its lineup as well and got a home run from David Freese in the opener among nine hits - three for extra bases.

TV: 7:05 p.m. ET, MLB Network, ROOT Pittsburgh, MASN 2 (Baltimore)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Pirates RH Chad Kuhl (1-5, 6.02 ERA) vs. Orioles LH Wade Miley (2-3, 2.82)

Kuhl has not won since his first start of the season on April 8 and has not gone over five innings since a six-inning stint at St. Louis on April 18. The Delaware native lasted five frames against Arizona last Wednesday and scattered two runs on three hits and three walks while striking out four and not factoring in the decision. Kuhl is seeing the Orioles for the first time and owns a 2.19 ERA in two interleague starts.

Miley turned in a strong effort against one of his former teams while holding the Red Sox to one run and five hits in seven innings to earn a win on Thursday. The Louisiana native surrendered two or fewer earned runs in seven of his last nine outings. Miley spent the first four seasons of his career in the National League with the Arizona Diamondbacks and is 2-2 with a 3.11 ERA in six career starts against the Pirates.

WALK-OFFS

1. Pirates LF Gregory Polanco is 0-for-9 with four strikeouts in his last two games.

2. Baltimore SS J.J. Hardy is 1-for-17 over his last five games, dropping his batting average to .205.

3. Pittsburgh LHP Tony Watson suffered his fourth blown save and third in his last six appearances on Tuesday.

Preview: White Sox at Rays

GAME: Chicago White Sox (25-31) at Tampa Bay Rays (29-31)
DATE/TIME: Wednesday, June 07 - 7:10 PM EST
WHERE: Tropicana Field, St. Petersburg, Florida
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Chicago White Sox returned from a day off with an unexpected power surge while the Tampa Bay Rays have been on the receiving end of many offensive explosions of late. The White Sox aim to answer a disastrous five-game losing skid with their second straight win on Wednesday when they visit the reeling Rays, who have been outscored 32-9 during their four-game slide.

Chicago was blitzed to the tune of 49-18 during its skid before Todd Frazier homered for the second straight contest and fourth in his last eight in Tuesday's 4-2 triumph over Tampa Bay. Yolmer Sanchez and Avisail Garcia also went deep to highlight their two-hit performances, with the former going 6-for-13 with three runs scored during his four-game hitting streak while the latter is also 6-for-13 in his last three contests. Tampa Bay's Kevin Kiermaier recorded his third three-hit performance in the last eight games to account for half of his team's total on Tuesday, although the two-time Gold Glove recipient had issues reading Sanchez's fly ball in the first inning. Logan Morrison continues to struggle at the plate for the Rays, as his 0-for-5 performance with three strikeouts in the opener dropped him to 3-for-23 with eight punchouts in his last six contests.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, CSN Chicago, FSN Sun (Tampa Bay)

PITCHING MATCHUP: White Sox RH Mike Pelfrey (2-4, 3.86 ERA) vs. Rays RH Jacob Faria (NR)

Pelfrey was unable to win his third straight start last Wednesday despite scattering two hits over five scoreless innings against Boston. The 33-year-old has posted a 1.13 ERA during his last three outings, allowing two earned runs and striking out 15 in 16 innings. Pelfrey owns an 0-1 career mark with a 4.43 ERA in four starts versus Tampa Bay and has permitted the Rays to bat .304 against him.

Faria, who was recalled from Triple-A Durham on Tuesday, was understandably excited when asked about his feelings ahead of his major-league debut. "It's the one thing I've been working for since I was 6. I don't think there's anything right now that trumps this moment for me," said the 23-year-old Faria, who posted a 6-1 mark with a 3.07 ERA in 11 starts with the Bulls. Tampa Bay pushed back the start of fellow right-hander Jake Odorizzi to Thursday in favor of Faria, who leads the International League with 84 strikeouts in just 58 2/3 innings.

WALK-OFFS

1. Tampa Bay DH-OF Corey Dickerson is 1-for-9 on the heels of hitting safely in nine straight contests and 15 of his previous 16.

2. Chicago SS Tim Anderson is 8-for-25 with five RBIs during a six-game hitting streak.

3. Rays RF Steven Souza Jr. is 1-for-13 with six strikeouts in June.

GAME: St. Louis Cardinals (26-30) at Cincinnati Reds (27-30)
DATE/TIME: Wednesday, June 07 - 7:10 PM EST
WHERE: Great American Ball Park, Cincinnati, Ohio
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

Cincinnati utility man Scooter Gennett attempts to follow up the top game of his five-year career when the Reds host the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday in the third contest of a four-game set. Gennett went 5-for-5 with four homers and 10 RBIs in Tuesday's 13-1 trouncing of the Cardinals after entering the game with three home runs this season.

The 27-year-old Gennett had 38 career homers before his epic outing in which he became the 17th player in major-league history to slug four in a game. Gennett is the first Reds' player to hit four in a game and his 10 RBIs matched the franchise mark set by Walker Cooper in 1949. "Anytime I hit a home run, I consider myself lucky but it's hard to get lucky four times in a row," Gennett said in a postgame interview. "... I never thought I would hit four home runs in a game ever. I'm blessed." St. Louis has lost a season-worst five straight contests to start a seven-game road trip and has dropped 10 of its past 13 overall.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, FSN Midwest (St. Louis), FSN Ohio (Cincinnati)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Cardinals RH Lance Lynn (4-3, 2.97 ERA) vs. Reds RH Bronson Arroyo (3-4, 6.24)

Lynn is winless over his past five starts - including two defeats - and has pitched six or fewer innings in four of the outings. The 30-year-old is 9-4 with a 3.22 ERA in 18 career appearances (15 starts) against the Reds, including a victory on April 28 when he gave up one run and six hits over six innings. Gennett is 8-for-23 with no homers against Lynn, who has also struggled with Joey Votto (11-for-25, seven walks).

Arroyo is also 0-2 in his last five turns and has given up five or more runs in each of his losses during the stretch. The 40-year-old is 3-2 in six home starts despite a 5.35 ERA and has served up 10 homers in 33 2/3 innings - and has allowed the most in the majors (19). Arroyo is 8-18 with a 4.91 ERA in 41 career appearances (39 starts) versus the Cardinals and has enjoyed success against Yadier Molina (12-for-59) and Dexter Fowler (4-for-21).

WALK-OFFS

1. Gennett joins Mark Whiten (1993 for the Cardinals versus the Reds) as the only players to hit a grand slam as part of a four-homer performance.

2. St. Louis 1B Matt Carpenter is 4-for-35 over his past nine games and doesn't have an RBI in his last 14 appearances.

3. Cincinnati SS Zack Cozart, who is second in the majors with a .353 average, is 7-for-11 over the past three games.

Current Conditions - Detroit
GAME: Los Angeles Angels (30-31) at Detroit Tigers (28-29)
DATE/TIME: Wednesday, June 07 - 7:10 PM EST
WHERE: Comerica Park, Detroit, Michigan
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

Kole Calhoun has put a disastrous May in his rear-view mirror and gone full speed ahead to begin the month of June. The 29-year-old carries a seven-game hitting streak into the Los Angeles Angels' second contest of a three-game series against the host Detroit Tigers on Wednesday when the teams reconvene at Comerica Park.

After hitting just .158 in all of May, Calhoun continued his torrid stretch with his fourth homer in five games this month in Tuesday's 5-3 victory in the series opener. Calhoun is 11-for-23 with seven RBIs and six runs scored during his hitting streak for the Angels, who have won nine of their last 13 at Comerica Park. The home tenants of that park saw their red-hot bats cooled after erupting for 38 runs during their previous four contests and will look to exact a bit of revenge for last month's loss against Wednesday starter Alex Meyer. J.D. Martinez, who had a sacrifice fly on Tuesday, has seven extra-base hits - including three homers - to go along with nine RBIs in his last seven games.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, FSN West (Los Angeles), FSN Detroit

PITCHING MATCHUP: Angels RH Alex Meyer (2-2, 4.91 ERA) vs. Tigers RH Buck Farmer (1-0, 0.00)

Meyer will vie for his first win since defeating Detroit on May 14, when he allowed one run on three hits and matched a career high with seven strikeouts in a 4-1 triumph. The 27-year-old pitched well in his last outing on Thursday, yielding just a solo homer among his five hits over six innings in a no-decision versus Minnesota. Both of those outings were at home, where he has permitted four runs and 10 hits in three outings as opposed to 13 and 15, respectively, in three trips to the mound on the road this year.

Detroit is expected to recall Farmer from Triple-A Toledo to fill Matt Boyd's spot in the rotation while also giving second-year starter Michael Fulmer an additional day of rest. The 26-year-old certainly fared well in his previous outing with the Tigers, notching his first major-league win on May 27 after scattering three hits and striking out 11 over 6 1/3 scoreless innings against the Chicago White Sox. Farmer has not been as fortunate in two career encounters with the Angels, posting an 0-1 mark with a bloated 12.71 ERA.

WALK-OFFS

1. Detroit C Alex Avila has homered and notched two hits in each of his last two games.

2. Los Angeles 3B Yunel Escobar is 8-for-19 in five contests since returning from a Grade 1 strain of his left hamstring.

3. Tigers 3B Nicholas Castellanos is 6-for-17 with a homer, two RBIs and five runs scored during his five-game hitting streak.

GAME: Philadelphia Phillies (21-35) at Atlanta Braves (24-32)
DATE/TIME: Wednesday, June 07 - 7:35 PM EST
WHERE: SunTrust Park, Cumberland, Georgia
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

Howie Kendrick lost most of his first two months in a Philadelphia Phillies uniform to an oblique injury but, as they play the third of a four-game set at the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday, the veteran is proving he is healthy and productive. The left fielder finished 3-for-4 as the Phillies pushed their winning streak to four games and improved to 5-0 against Atlanta this season with Tuesday’s 3-1 victory.

Kendrick is hitting .348 on the season and is 10-for-27 in seven games since coming off the disabled list - breaking up Atlanta starter Jaime Garcia’s perfect game with a solo homer in the fourth inning Tuesday. The Braves dropped to 10-14 at home after being limited to only seven hits in falling for the second game in a row against Philadelphia. Second baseman Brandon Phillips finished 2-for-4, recording his eighth multi-hit game in his past 16 starts. Center fielder Ender Inciarte recorded his 500th career hit with an eighth-inning single, and is hitting .400 in his past 10 games.

TV: 7:35 p.m. ET, CSN Philadelphia, FSN Southeast (Atlanta)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Phillies RH Jerad Eickhoff (0-6, 5.13 ERA) vs. Braves RH Mike Foltynewicz (3-5, 3.90)

Eickhoff seeks his first victory of the season and while he finished April with a 3.56 ERA, the 26-year-old has surrendered 22 earned runs in 29 1/3 innings across his past six outings while the league is hitting .339 against him in that span. He lasted a season-worst 2 2/3 innings in a 10-0 loss to the San Francisco Giants on June 2, giving up five runs (four earned) on six hits. Eickhoff held Atlanta to one run on two hits with seven strikeouts over five innings in a no-decision April 22.

Foltynewicz continues asserting himself as a long-term part of Atlanta’s rotation. He pitched seven innings of two-hit shutout ball Friday in Cincinnati, striking out 10 in a game the Braves bullpen blew in extra innings. The 25-year-old has posted a 3.21 ERA while going 3-1 in his past five starts - giving up one earned run or fewer three times - and limited the Phillies to one run on four hits with nine strikeouts in a no-decision April 23.

WALK-OFFS

1. Philadelphia CF Odubel Herrera recorded his seventh double in the past four games Tuesday, giving him nine RBIs in that span.

2. Phillies RHP Aaron Nola was the first Philadelphia starter this season to go more than seven innings, giving up one run on five hits with six strikeouts in eight frames Tuesday.

3. Atlanta placed the majors’ oldest player, 44-year-old RHP Bartolo Colon, on the disabled list Tuesday with a strained left oblique.

Current Conditions - Arlington
GAME: New York Mets (24-32) at Texas Rangers (27-31)
DATE/TIME: Wednesday, June 07 - 8:05 PM EST
WHERE: Globe Life Park in Arlington, Arlington, Texas
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Texas Rangers needed a win after spending the weekend getting smoked by the major league-best Houston Astros, and the New York Mets were happy to oblige. The Rangers will try to take advantage of the slumping Mets again and earn a sweep of the two-game interleague set when they host the finale on Wednesday.

Texas entered the series with losses in four straight and 10 of its last 12 but had little trouble solving New York ace Jacob deGrom while bashing its way to a 10-8 win in Tuesday's opener. The Rangers got at least one hit from each member of the starting lineup as part of the 16-hit attack, including four from right fielder Nomar Mazara, who went 1-for-9 with four strikeouts over the weekend against the Astros. Trying to slow that offense on Friday will be right-hander Zack Wheeler while the Mets tackle Texas ace Yu Darvish. New York could use a little length out of Wheeler after watching deGrom get bounced after four innings Tuesday as the Mets' staff allowed double-digit runs for the third time in the last four contests.

TV: 8:05 p.m. ET, SNY (New York), FSN Southwest (Texas)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Mets RH Zack Wheeler (3-3, 3.72 ERA) vs. Rangers RH Yu Darvish (5-4, 3.13)

Wheeler suffered his first loss in over a month when he was reached for two runs on 10 hits and a walk in 6 1/3 innings against Milwaukee on Thursday. The 27-year-old is coming back from Tommy John surgery but seems to have passed all restrictions on pitch counts after tossing over 100 pitches against the Brewers. Wheeler is 1-0 with a 3.22 ERA in four starts on the road this season, including a win at the Los Angeles Angels in his lone interleague start.

Darvish is trying to snap a two-start losing streak and lasted only five innings against Houston on Friday, yielding three runs on seven hits and a walk. The Japan native struck out eight in those five frames and owns 80 in 74 2/3 innings. Darvish did not factor in the decision in his lone previous start against the Mets and is 8-2 with a 2.19 ERA in 14 career interleague outings.

WALK-OFFS

1. The Rangers placed 1B Mike Napoli (lower back) on the 10-day disabled list and activated LHP Dario Alvarez.

2. New York SS Asdrubal Cabrera recorded three hits on Tuesday after going 0-for-12 in his previous three games.

3. Texas traded RHP Sam Dyson to the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday after designating him for assignment last week.

GAME: Miami Marlins (24-33) at Chicago Cubs (30-27)
DATE/TIME: Wednesday, June 07 - 8:05 PM EST
WHERE: Wrigley Field, Chicago, Illinois
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The surging Chicago Cubs can match their high-water mark for the season when they aim for a sixth consecutive win and a three-game sweep of the visiting Miami Marlins on Wednesday. The Cubs look to move four games above .500 and preserve their spot atop the National League Central alongside Milwaukee, while Miami hopes to avoid its first three-game skid since losing five straight from May 15-19.

Chicago made it five straight overall and eight in a row at home with a 10-2 rout of the Marlins on Tuesday, as Anthony Rizzo hit a three-run blast and Jason Heyward had three hits and two RBIs. The Cubs’ offense has come to life during the homestand after totaling just nine runs during an 0-6 West Coast road trip, but the pitching has been dominant, too. Chicago has allowed six hits or fewer in six straight games and has iced a Marlins' lineup that entered the series averaging six runs and 10 hits while winning seven of its previous eight contests. Miami is without team homer leader Justin Bour (16) due to an ankle injury and has dropped 11 of its last 15 on the road and has also lost seven straight at Wrigley Field dating to 2015.

TV: 8:05 p.m. ET, FSN Florida (Miami), WGN (Chicago)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Marlins RH Jose Urena (3-2, 3.80 ERA) vs. Cubs RH John Lackey (4-5, 4.90)

Urena hasn’t pitched well his last three starts, but the Marlins have managed to win all three. The 25-year-old lasted only 4 1/3 innings Friday against Arizona, allowing five runs and nine hits, after issuing a season-high six walks in his previous start. Urena faced the Cubs in 2015 and gave up three runs over six innings in a loss.

Lackey is winless in his last three outings, but he turned in a strong performance Friday against St. Louis, striking out six and allowing two runs and four hits over seven frames. It was the first quality start for the 38-year-old since May 9, though he did allow a home run for the fourth straight start and has surrendered 14 in 11 outings this season. Lackey is 1-1 with a 4.44 ERA in four starts against the Marlins.

WALK-OFFS

1. The Cubs have hit 28 home runs in their past 14 home games.

2. Marlins RF Giancarlo Stanton is 12-for-30 during a nine-game hitting streak.

3. Chicago is 12-for-30 with runners in scoring position over the past five games after going 3-for-40 in those situations during its six-game skid.

GAME: San Francisco Giants (24-36) at Milwaukee Brewers (31-28)
DATE/TIME: Wednesday, June 07 - 8:10 PM EST
WHERE: Miller Park, Milwaukee, Wisconsin
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The San Francisco Giants' sputtering offense was just getting untracked with a staggering 27 runs in the previous four contests before barely avoiding their seventh shutout this season Tuesday. The Giants face an uphill battle on Wednesday in the third contest of their four-game series against the host Milwaukee Brewers when they encounter starter Jimmy Nelson, who has allowed just one run and struck out 21 in his last two outings.

San Francisco's Buster Posey capped his second straight two-hit performance with an RBI single in the ninth inning of Tuesday's 5-2 setback, improving to 13-for-31 with five RBIs and four runs scored during his eight-game hitting streak. The 2012 National League MVP is 2-for-5 in his career with two RBIs in a small sample size versus Nelson, who admitted that he's been at ease on the mound this season. "Just letting everything happen out front mechanically, not trying to overthrow or anything. Just sticking with my game plan that me, Manny (Pina) and (pitching coach Derek Johnson) go over," Nelson told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel of his approach. Domingo Santana has recorded a hit in six straight games and 10 of his last 11 for the Brewers, who evened the series with just their third win in their last 17 meetings with the Giants.

TV: 8:10 p.m. ET, NBCSN Bay Area (San Francisco), FSN Wisconsin (Milwaukee)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Giants LH Ty Blach (4-2, 3.24 ERA) vs. Brewers RH Jimmy Nelson (3-3, 3.36)

Blach ran his winning streak to four straight starts in impressive fashion on Friday, scattering seven hits without walking a batter over nine innings in a 10-0 rout of Philadelphia. The 26-year-old has worked at least seven innings in five straight outings, lowering his ERA by nearly 2 1/2 runs in the process. Blach, who will be making his first career start versus Milwaukee, has permitted eight runs in his last five trips to the mound after being gashed for 10 in three innings of a 14-2 rout by Cincinnati on May 6.

Nelson became the first Brewers' pitcher to record double-digit strikeouts without issuing a walk in consecutive starts on Friday against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The 28-year-old answered a 10-strikeout performance in a win over Arizona on May 28 before scattering five hits and fanning a career high-tying 11 in eight innings of a no-decision versus Clayton Kershaw and the Dodgers. Nelson owns just a 2-1 mark despite yielding seven earned runs in his last six outings overall, but is 1-2 with a 5.50 ERA in three career starts versus San Francisco.

WALK-OFFS

1. San Francisco INF Eduardo Nunez is 5-for-9 with three runs scored in the series and 14-for-35 during his eight-game hitting streak.

2. Milwaukee CF Keon Broxton is hitless in his last three contests and is 4-for-39 in his last 12.

3. The Giants acquired RHP Sam Dyson from Texas for a player to be named later or cash prior to Tuesday's game.

GAME: Houston Astros (42-17) at Kansas City Royals (25-32)
DATE/TIME: Wednesday, June 07 - 8:15 PM EST
WHERE: Kauffman Stadium, Kansas City, Missouri
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The pitcher who currently is the best in baseball will be on the mound for the hottest team in the major leagues when the Houston Astros visit the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday for the third contest of their four-game series. Undefeated ace Dallas Keuchel leads the majors in victories (nine), ERA (1.67) and WHIP (0.87) as he looks to help the Astros win for the 12th time in 13 contests.

Houston failed to match the club mark of 12 straight victories when a bullpen meltdown on Tuesday allowed Kansas City to score six times over the final two innings en route to a 9-7 victory. Keuchel has won 11 consecutive decisions dating back to last season and is vying to match the franchise mark shared by Mark Portugal (1993) and Wade Miller (2002). Kansas City's Mike Moustakas belted a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning to cap a strong effort in which he went 4-for-5 with three RBIs. Whit Merrifield stroked a tying three-run double in the eighth and finished 2-for-5 one night after his career-best 19-game hitting streak was halted.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Astros LH Dallas Keuchel (9-0, 1.67 ERA) vs. Royals LH Jason Vargas (7-3, 2.08)

Keuchel also leads the majors in opponents' slugging percentage (.275) and ranks second in both batting average against (.183) and opponents' on-base percentage (.238). The 29-year-old, who is the first Astros pitcher to start 9-0 since Roger Clemens in 2004, hasn't served up a homer in his last four starts while striking out 28 in 23 innings. Keuchel is 3-1 with a 3.32 ERA in six career starts against the Royals - including a win on April 8 in which he gave up one run and two hits over seven frames - and has shut down Salvador Perez (2-for-18) and Alex Gordon (1-for-10).

Vargas is second in the majors in ERA in a strong bounce-back season now that he is fully recovered from the Tommy John surgery he underwent in the summer of 2015. The 34-year-old tossed his seventh career shutout in his last turn, when he gave up seven hits against Cleveland. Vargas beat the Astros on April 7 as he allowed one run and six hits over six innings to improve to 1-2 with a 6.84 ERA in five career starts and has struggled with Carlos Beltran (6-for-12, one homer) and Jose Altuve (5-for-12, one homer).

WALK-OFFS

1. Royals 1B Eric Hosmer is 5-for-9 with three doubles in the series and 15-for-38 during his nine-game hitting streak.

2. Astros INF/OF Marwin Gonzalez (left hand) sat out Tuesday's contest but expects to return Wednesday.

3. Gordon homered on Tuesday for the first time since Sept. 25.

Preview: Padres at Diamondbacks

GAME: San Diego Padres (23-36) at Arizona Diamondbacks (35-25)
DATE/TIME: Wednesday, June 07 - 9:40 PM EST
WHERE: Chase Field, Phoenix, Arizona
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Arizona Diamondbacks have flourished in the desert this season, as evidenced by their major league-best 22-8 record at Chase Field. Arizona seeks its eighth straight win at home when it hosts the San Diego Padres on Wednesday for the middle contest of their three-game series.

The Diamondbacks concluded a 5-6 road trip with three consecutive losses but ended the slide with a 10-2 triumph over San Diego in Tuesday's opener. Jake Lamb continued his strong play at home, driving in four runs while going 2-for-4 to extend his hitting streak at Chase Field to 10 games. The Padres managed only five hits in Tuesday's setback, which was their third in a row. Hunter Renfroe recorded two of them, belting a pair of solo homers to give the rookie three in his last two contests.

TV: 9:40 p.m. ET, FSN San Diego, FSN Arizona

PITCHING MATCHUP: Padres RH Luis Perdomo (0-2, 5.01 ERA) vs. Diamondbacks RH Zack Greinke (7-3, 3.06)

Perdomo is coming off his best outing of the season, a seven-inning performance against the Chicago Cubs last Wednesday in which he settled for a no-decision despite allowing just one run and three hits. It was the seventh no-decision in nine turns this season for the 24-year-old Dominican, who remains in search of his first win of 2017. Perdomo fell to 3-2 with a 4.76 ERA in eight career appearances (four starts) against Arizona on May 20 after surrendering eight runs and 11 hits over three-plus innings.

Greinke has won six of his last seven decisions, including an outing at Miami on Thursday in which he allowed two runs - one earned - and four hits over seven innings. It marked the fifth time in 12 outings the 33-year-old Floridian worked at least seven frames but just the fourth time he did not serve up a home run. Greinke is 9-2 with a 1.93 ERA in 18 career starts against San Diego after splitting a pair of outings in April, which included a 1-0 complete-game loss on the road.

WALK-OFFS

1. The Diamondbacks placed OF Yasmany Tomas (groin) on the 10-day disabled list and optioned RHP Braden Shipley to Triple-A Reno while recalling OF Jeremy Hazelbaker and RHP Zack Godley.

2. San Diego placed RHP Jarred Cosart (elbow) on the 10-day DL, purchased the contract of OF Jose Pirela from Triple-A El Paso and transferred OF Travis Jankowski (foot) to the 60-day DL.

3. Padres 1B Wil Myers has hit safely in seven of his last eight contests.

Preview: Twins at Mariners

GAME: Minnesota Twins (29-25) at Seattle Mariners (29-30)
DATE/TIME: Wednesday, June 07 - 10:10 PM EST
WHERE: Safeco Field, Seattle, Washington
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Seattle Mariners have scored a season-best 12 runs twice during their four-game winning streak and look to keep the offense flourishing when they host the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday for the middle contest of their three-game series. Suddenly explosive Seattle has crossed the plate 40 times during the stretch and is aiming for its ninth win in the last 10 games.

Kyle Seager homered and drove in four runs while Robinson Cano clubbed a three-run shot during Tuesday's 12-3 trouncing of the Twins. "We're just trying to play our game and things are going our way," Cano said in a postgame television interview. "We're doing the job early in the game, and that has been a key." Tuesday's defeat was only Minnesota's second in its last 10 games at Safeco Field, ending its five-game winning streak in Seattle. Joe Mauer went 2-for-5 with an RBI for the Twins and is 11-for-25 with three homers and 10 RBIs in his last six contests at Safeco Field.

TV: 10:10 p.m. ET, FSN North (Minnesota), ROOT (Seattle)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Twins LH Adalberto Mejia (1-1, 3.95 ERA) vs. Mariners RH Yovani Gallardo (2-6, 6.24)

Mejia pitched well in a no-decision in his last turn, giving up one run and five hits over six innings against the Los Angeles Angels. The 23-year-old has allowed two runs or fewer in three of his last five starts. Mejia has struck out 24 and issued 14 walks while serving up five homers in 27 1/3 frames.

Gallardo has been horrific in his last three starts, losing all three while posting a 12.75 ERA over 12 innings. The 31-year-old served up two homers to Colorado in his last start, when he gave up five runs and six hits in three frames. Gallardo is 3-2 with a 3.02 ERA in nine career starts versus the Twins and struggles against Jason Castro (8-for-21) and Mauer (7-for-16).

WALK-OFFS

1. Mariners DH Nelson Cruz (calf) departed Tuesday's game and will undergo further examination, although MGR Scott Servais expects him to play on Wednesday.

2. Minnesota SS Jorge Polanco left the team Tuesday due to the death of his grandfather in the Dominican Republic, and a return date isn't yet known.

3. Seattle reportedly is near an agreement with SS Jean Segura, who currently is on the disabled list with an ankle injury, on a five-year, $70 million contract extension.
