GAME: Oakland Athletics (22-29) at Cleveland Indians (27-23)
DATE/TIME: Wednesday, May 31 - 6:10 PM EST
WHERE: Progressive Field, Cleveland, Ohio

The Cleveland Indians have answered a three-game losing streak by winning three in a row, fueled by a surging offense that has produced 24 runs and 38 hits. Sitting in a tie with Minnesota atop the American League Central, the Indians look to make it four consecutive wins overall and three straight over the visiting Oakland Athletics on Wednesday.

Cleveland third baseman Jose Ramirez is 9-for-12 with three three-hit games during the winning streak, while rookie Bradley Zimmer homered and had four RBIs in Tuesday's 9-4 win, matching his season total in each category. The Indians tied a franchise record with four pitchers combining for 19 strikeouts in sending Oakland to its fourth straight loss. Designated hitter Ryon Healy is 5-for-8 in the series and has hit safely in four in a row for the Athletics, who are an AL-worst 7-19 away from home. Left-hander Sean Manaea will look to halt the skid when he opposes Cleveland's Mike Clevinger in the third matchup of the four-game set.

TV: 6:10 p.m. ET, NBCSN California (Oakland), SportsTime Ohio (Cleveland)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Athletics LH Sean Manaea (3-3, 4.35 ERA) vs. Indians RH Mike Clevinger (2-1, 2.82)

Manaea is coming off a stellar performance at Yankee Stadium, pitching a season-high seven innings and blanking New York on four hits while recording eight strikeouts for his second straight win. He beat Boston in his previous turn, allowing two earned runs on five hits over five innings. Manaea defeated the Indians in his only career starts against them last August, permitting one run on three hits over seven innings.

Clevinger is coming off his worst effort since moving into the rotation but escaped with a no-decision despite getting tagged for four runs and eight hits, including two homers, over five innings. He was outstanding in his previous turn at Houston with seven scoreless innings of two-hit ball spiced with eight strikeouts. Clevinger has a 6.52 ERA at home and a 0.00 ERA on the road.

WALK-OFFS

1. Indians LF Michael Brantley has hit safely in 14 consecutive games.

2. Athletics 1B Yonder Alonso is 6-for-13 with a pair of homers and five runs scored during a four-game hitting streak.

3. Cleveland 1B Edwin Encarnacion has boosted his batting average 33 points to .232 during a nine-game hitting streak.

GAME: New York Yankees (30-19) at Baltimore Orioles (26-24)
DATE/TIME: Wednesday, May 31 - 7:05 PM EST
WHERE: Oriole Park at Camden Yards, Baltimore, Maryland

The New York Yankees have to hope that the good version of Masahiro Tanaka shows up Wednesday in the rubber match of a three-game series at the Baltimore Orioles. Tanaka already has three starts in which he has given up at least six runs in three innings or fewer, including back-to-back outings earlier this month when he served up a total of seven home runs.

The 28-year-old rebounded with a career-high 13 strikeouts in 7 1/3 superb frames in a tough-luck loss to Oakland his last time out. Tanaka will try to follow the example set by youngster Luis Severino, who limited the Orioles to one run while striking out eight in 6 1/3 innings in Tuesday's 8-3 win. Brett Gardner and Matt Holliday both went deep twice as the Yankees handed Baltimore its eighth loss in the last nine games. The Orioles, who were without center fielder Adam Jones (ankle, hip) on Wednesday, will try to avoid losing their third straight series behind right-hander Kevin Gausman.

TV: 7:05 p.m. ET, WPIX (New York), MASN (Baltimore)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Yankees RH Masahiro Tanaka (5-4, 5.86 ERA) vs. Orioles RH Kevin Gausman (2-4, 6.17)

Tanaka had allowed 10 homers in his first four starts this month before keeping the ball in the park versus the Athletics on Friday. He has a 6.41 ERA and a woeful 1.73 WHIP in five road starts, which includes a visit to Baltimore on April 8 in which he gave up three runs in five innings. The Japan native has a 2.74 ERA in six career starts against the Orioles.

Gausman appears to have turned a corner after a difficult start to the year, allowing exactly two runs in three of his last four outings. One of those was a 6 2/3-inning effort at Houston on Friday, although the 26-year-old struck out just two. Gausman has been rocked for nine runs in 10 2/3 innings over two starts versus New York in 2017, but he is 6-3 with a 2.59 ERA in his career against the Bronx Bombers.

WALK-OFFS

1. Gardner is batting .330 with nine home runs in May.

2. Orioles 3B Manny Machado is 0-for-13 with eight strikeouts over his last three games as his average has dropped to .210.

3. Yankees 1B Greg Bird (ankle) is scheduled to begin a rehab stint Thursday at High-A Tampa.

Preview: Brewers at Mets
GAME: Milwaukee Brewers (27-25) at New York Mets (23-27)
DATE/TIME: Wednesday, May 31 - 7:10 PM EST
WHERE: Citi Field, New York City, New York

Right-hander Jacob deGrom will look to extend his unbeaten string to seven starts when the New York Mets continue their four-game series against the visiting Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday night. New York has won three in a row and four of five after squeezing out a 5-4 victory in 12 innings on Jay Bruce's walk-off single Tuesday night.

The 28-year-old deGrom had one of his worst starts of the season at Milwaukee on May 14 with six innings of four-run ball, but he has rebounded to win his last two starts while permitting one run over 15 1/3 frames. The Mets will be looking for him to pitch deep into the game after they were forced to use their bullpen for 6 2/3 innings in Tuesday's marathon. Milwaukee has dropped seven of nine games and stranded 14 runners in its latest setback, although Orlando Arcia collected three hits to extend his hitting streak to 10 games. The Brewers will try to halt their malaise with Opening Day starter Junior Guerra, who missed nearly two months due to a calf strain.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, FSN Wisconsin (Milwaukee), SNY (New York)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Brewers RH Júnior Guerra (0-0, 3.12 ERA) vs. Mets RH Jacob deGrom (4-1, 3.23)

Guerra returned from an absence of 7 1/2 weeks to make his second start of the season, working 5 2/3 innings and holding Arizona to one run on three hits over 5 2/3 innings. The 32-year-old was a revelation for Milwaukee in 2016, going 9-3 with a 2.81 ERA in 20 starts. Guerra faced the Mets in June last year and earned a no-decision despite pitching 6 2/3 innings of one-run ball.

Posting his fifth double-digit strikeout effort of the season, deGrom overpowered Pittsburgh in his last outing, working a season-high 8 1/3 innings while giving up one run and fanning 10. It marked the seventh time in his last eight starts that he has tallied at least seven strikeouts, boosting his season total to 86 in 64 innings. He is 3-1 with a 2.92 ERA in six starts versus the Brewers, but Domingo Santana is 2-for-2 against him.

WALK-OFFS

1. Mets 1B Lucas Duda has four homers and eight RBIs during a six-game hitting streak.

2. Brewers 3B Travis Shaw has hit safely in six straight games.

3. Mets 2B Neil Walker collected two hits Tuesday, including the 1,000th of his career.

Preview: Rays at Rangers
GAME: Tampa Bay Rays (28-27) at Texas Rangers (26-27)
DATE/TIME: Wednesday, May 31 - 8:05 PM EST
WHERE: Globe Life Park in Arlington, Arlington, Texas

The Tampa Bay Rays need a big performance from Chris Archer when they visit the Texas Rangers on Wednesday for the rubber match of their three-game series. The Rays have been forced to go to the bullpen heavily over the last three days and could use a lengthy effort from Archer, who needs four strikeouts to pass David Price (54) for most during the month of May in one season in franchise history.

Tampa Bay went 15 innings on Sunday in Minnesota and sent six pitchers to the mound in each of the first two games of this series after coughing up a three-run lead in Tuesday’s 9-5 setback. Elvis Andrus has hit safely in six straight contests for the Rangers and was the hero in the second game of the series, belting a tying three-run homer and knocking in a career-high five runs. Shin-Soo Choo also has been a problem for the Rays in the series, launching a pair of homers, knocking in five runs and scoring four times after going 5-for-27 in his previous seven games. Adrian Beltre, who is just 1-for-14 lifetime against Archer, has recorded a pair of hits in his first two games of the season after suffering through a calf injury for most of the first two months.

TV: 8:05 p.m. ET, FSN Sun (Tampa Bay), FSN Southwest (Texas)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Rays RH Chris Archer (4-3, 3.61 ERA) vs. Rangers RH Austin Bibens-Dirkx (0-0, 3.97)

Archer defeated Minnesota last time out, allowing two runs and five hits over 7 2/3 innings while striking out 11 - reaching that total for the fourth time in his last five outings. The 28-year-old native of North Carolina has recorded seven quality starts and permitted two or fewer runs six times in his first 11 turns of the season. Andrus is 5-for-12 with a double versus Archer, who is 1-2 with a 5.34 ERA in six career starts against Texas.

Bibens-Dirkx is slated to make his first major-league start after four relief appearances this season in which he permitted five runs and eight hits over 11 1/3 innings. The 32-year-old Oregonian was a 16th-round draft pick of Seattle in 2006 and has spent 12 campaigns in the minor leagues, compiling 1,040 1/3 frames. Bibens-Dirkx is 0-2 with a 3.04 ERA in six outings (three starts) with Triple-A Round Rock this year.

WALK-OFFS

1. Tampa Bay OF-DH Corey Dickerson is 9-for-17 in his last three games and is tied with Carl Crawford for the most hits in one month of May in franchise history (43).

2. Rangers 1B-DH Mike Napoli (back), who is 1-for-19 lifetime against Archer, has missed the last two games and is day-to-day.

3. The Rays placed OF Peter Bourjos (elbow) on the 10-day disabled list and optioned RHP Jose De Leon to Triple-A while recalling RHPs Chih-Wei Hu from Durham and Hunter Wood from Double-A Montgomery.

Preview: Red Sox at White Sox
GAME: Boston Red Sox (28-23) at Chicago White Sox (24-27)
DATE/TIME: Wednesday, May 31 - 8:10 PM EST
WHERE: Guaranteed Rate Field, Chicago, Illinois

The Boston Red Sox responded well to the loss of second baseman Dustin Pedroia and seek their third straight series win when they finish a three-game set at the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday. Pedroia was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a sprained wrist hours before the Red Sox went out and evened the set with a 13-7 triumph.

They set a team season high with six home runs - two by No. 9 hitter Deven Marrero and another by No. 8 hitter Jackie Bradley Jr. - to survive a rare rocky start for lefty Chris Sale in his return to Chicago. Xander Bogaerts had one of the other home runs to highlight his four-hit game and Boston's shortstop is batting .355 with 15 RBIs in May. The White Sox will be looking for some length out of starter Mike Pelfrey after struggling lefty Jose Quintana was able to get through only 2 2/3 innings in suffering the loss Tuesday. Melky Cabrera had three of Chicago's 14 hits and is 7-for-13 with two homers and five RBIs over his last three contests.

TV: 8:10 p.m. ET, NESN (Boston), CSN Chicago

PITCHING MATCHUP: Red Sox LH Drew Pomeranz (4-3, 4.70 ERA) vs. White Sox RH Mike Pelfrey (2-4, 4.41)

Pomeranz had lasted four innings or fewer in three straight starts before he was solid through six in a win over Texas at home Thursday. He allowed two runs on four hits and one walk while tying a career high with 11 strikeouts. The 28-year-old, who sports the best strikeout rate of his career at 11.5 per nine innings, has spun seven scoreless frames with 11 strikeouts in two career games (one start) against the White Sox.

Pelfrey has allowed one earned run in each of his last two starts and struck out a season-high seven in a win over Detroit on Friday. The Wichita State product has a solid 3.12 ERA in four career starts against the Red Sox, although he gave up five runs in five innings at Fenway Park last July. Pelfrey has gotten the best of Boston slugger Hanley Ramirez (10-for-56, eight strikeouts), while Mookie Betts (4-for-9, two doubles) has enjoyed his encounters with the 33-year-old.

WALK-OFFS

1. Red Sox RHP Craig Kimbrel picked up his 14th save Tuesday while extending his scoreless streak to 15 innings.

2. White Sox 3B Todd Frazier has only three hits in his last 10 games but all of them have been home runs.

3. Red Sox 3B Pablo Sandoval was activated from the 10-day disabled list to take Pedroia's spot on the roster.

Preview: Tigers at Royals
GAME: Detroit Tigers (24-28) at Kansas City Royals (22-29)
DATE/TIME: Wednesday, May 31 - 8:15 PM EST
WHERE: Kauffman Stadium, Kansas City, Missouri

The Kansas City Royals are trying to climb out of the cellar in the American League Central and can get a little closer to accomplishing that when they host the struggling Detroit Tigers in the rubber match of their three-game series on Wednesday. The Royals blanked the Tigers 1-0 on Tuesday to even the set and pull within 1 ½ games of passing them for fourth place in the division.

Eric Hosmer knocked in the only run and four pitchers limited Detroit to three hits while Whit Merrifield extended his hitting streak to 15 games with an infield single for the Royals. Ian Kennedy will try to record his first victory of the season for Kansas City, and the Tigers will counter with the struggling Matt Boyd in the series finale. Detroit has lost eight of 11 games and is just 12-18 on the road this season after striking out 10 times in Tuesday’s setback. Jose Iglesias registered one of the three hits and is 4-for-7 in the series while teammate Victor Martinez is 3-for-8 in the last two games for the Tigers, who are 6-20 when they score fewer than four runs.

TV: 8:15 p.m. ET, FSN Detroit, FSN Kansas City

PITCHING MATCHUP: Tigers LH Matt Boyd (2-5, 5.40 ERA) vs. Royals RH Ian Kennedy (0-4, 4.43)

Boyd is winless in his last seven starts and has not made it through six innings in the past three outings, allowing 14 runs over 12 1/3 frames in that stretch. The 26-year-old Oregon State product put together three straight quality starts while going 0-2 before the rough three-game run. Merrifield is 3-for-4 with four RBIs against Boyd, who is 1-3 with a 9.00 ERA in six career starts versus the Royals.

Kennedy gave up four runs and three hits over five innings of a no-decision last time out against Cleveland. The 32-year-old USC product has not completed six frames in any of his last four outings after recording three straight quality starts that averaged seven innings. Miguel Cabrera is 5-for-13 with two doubles versus Kennedy, who is 1-3 with a 3.79 ERA in six career starts against Detroit.

WALK-OFFS

1. Kansas City placed LHP Danny Duffy (oblique) on the 10-day disabled list and recalled LHP Eric Skoglund, who won his major-league debut.

2. Detroit INF/OF Andrew Romine did not play Tuesday but has hit safely in five straight games, going 8-for-20 in that stretch.

3. Royals C Salvador Perez needs one homer to pass Mike Macfarlane (93) and become the franchise's all-time leader at the position.

Preview: Dodgers at Cardinals
GAME: Los Angeles Dodgers (33-20) at St. Louis Cardinals (24-25)
DATE/TIME: Wednesday, May 31 - 8:15 PM EST
WHERE: Busch Stadium, St. Louis, Missouri

The surging Los Angeles Dodgers are back atop the National League West, and they’ll aim for a seventh straight victory when they take on the host St. Louis Cardinals in the third of a four-game series Wednesday. The Dodgers won 11 of their last 13 contests and have scored 39 runs during a six-game winning streak.

St. Louis has dropped 10 of its last 13 contests to fall below .500 for the first time since May 4. The Cardinals managed to cool off rookie Cody Bellinger, who went 0-for-6 with four strikeouts Tuesday, but the rest of the Los Angeles lineup picked up the slack in a 9-4 win. The Dodgers’ bullpen also continued its strong performance with six pitchers combining for five solid innings, though the Cardinals broke through against Chris Hatcher in the eighth inning to snap a 24 2/3 inning scoreless streak for Los Angeles relievers. St. Louis catcher Yadier Molina ended the streak with a solo shot and his homer off Sergio Romo on May 24 was the last run the Dodgers’ bullpen allowed before the streak.

TV: 8:15 p.m. ET, ESPN, SportsNet Los Angeles, FSN Midwest (St. Louis)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Dodgers LH Hyun-Jin Ryu (2-5, 4.28 ERA) vs. Cardinals RH Carlos Martinez (3-4, 3.32)

Ryu returns to the rotation after just one relief appearance. The 30-year-old South Korean was excellent in his one outing out of the bullpen, allowing two hits over four scoreless innings against the Cardinals on Thursday to earn his first career save. Ryu is 1-1 with a 1.50 ERA in three games (two starts) against St. Louis.

Martinez has recorded six straight quality starts, but the Cardinals have lost the last two times he has taken the mound. The 25-year-old from the Dominican Republic struck out nine and allowed three runs over 7 1/3 innings in a loss at Colorado on Friday. Martinez is 2-2 with a 3.55 ERA in seven games (six starts) against the Dodgers.

WALK-OFFS

1. Los Angeles 2B Chase Utley has recorded multiple hits in three of his past four games, going 7-for-12 with three extra-base hits over that span.

2. Cardinals OF Tommy Pham had his five-game hitting streak snapped Tuesday but has walked in four straight games.

3. Dodgers 1B Adrian Gonzalez is 7-for-23 during a seven-game hitting streak.

GAME: Atlanta Braves (22-28) at Los Angeles Angels (27-28)
DATE/TIME: Wednesday, May 31 - 10:07 PM EST
WHERE: Angel Stadium of Anaheim, Anaheim, California

Albert Pujols looks to join an elite club when his Los Angeles Angels host the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday for the rubber match of their three-game interleague series. Pujols went deep in each of the first two contests of the set to climb within one blast of becoming the ninth player in major-league history to hit 600 home runs.

The 37-year-old Pujols, who is riding a six-game hitting streak, highlighted the Angels' nine-run third inning on Tuesday with a three-run shot that gave him a team-leading 38 RBIs. Matt Kemp gave Atlanta the lead with a two-run homer in the top of the third before the floodgates opened in the bottom half. The blast ended a nine-game drought for Kemp, who has hit safely in seven of his last eight contests. Ender Inciarte has been held without a hit in only two of his last 17 games.

TV: 10:07 p.m. ET, FSN Southeast (Atlanta), FSN West (Los Angeles)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Braves LH Jaime Garcia (2-3, 3.58 ERA) vs. Angels RH Jesse Chavez (4-6, 5.09)

Garcia ended his three-start winless streak Friday as he scattered four hits over 6 2/3 scoreless innings at San Francisco. The 30-year-old Mexican has allowed one earned run in 14 2/3 frames over his last two outings after yielding four in each of his previous two turns. Garcia won his only career start against the Angels last May, when he gave up two unearned runs and four hits in seven innings at Los Angeles.

Chavez was denied a third consecutive victory on Friday as he surrendered five runs and eight hits in 3 2/3 innings of a loss at Miami. The 33-year-old Californian has served up a total of five home runs in his last two outings after yielding the same amount over his previous five turns. Chavez has made four relief appearances against Atlanta in his career, allowing two unearned runs and two hits while striking out eight in 5 2/3 frames.

WALK-OFFS

1. Angels OF Eric Young Jr. is 3-for-9 with an RBI, a run scored and two stolen bases in his first two games with the club.

2. Atlanta 2B Brandon Phillips missed the first two games of the series with a knee contusion and is day-to-day.

3. Los Angeles OF Cameron Maybin was held out of Tuesday's contest due to tightness in his side.

Preview: Rockies at Mariners
GAME: Colorado Rockies (33-21) at Seattle Mariners (24-29)
DATE/TIME: Wednesday, May 31 - 10:10 PM EST
WHERE: Safeco Field, Seattle, Washington

Seattle left-hander James Paxton returns to the mound for the first time after a four-plus week injury absence when the Seattle Mariners host the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday. Paxton posted a stellar 1.43 ERA in six starts prior to suffering a forearm strain and will attempt to pitch the Mariners to their fourth consecutive victory.

Paxton was displaying signs of enjoying a breakthrough season before the injury, something that has been a recurring theme during his career. "Paxton is anxious to get back," Seattle manager Scott Servais told reporters. "We saw that string he had going early in the year, building off what he did last year and kind of how he's carrying himself. He's taken a lot of pride of being a guy that goes out there and shuts the other team down and gives us a chance." The Mariners defeated the Rockies in consecutive games in Colorado and the series now switches to Seattle for two more contests. Third baseman Nolan Arenado is homerless in his past eight games for the Rockies, who have dropped four of their last six games to fall out of first place in the National League West - a half-game behind the Los Angeles Dodgers.

TV: 10:10 p.m. ET, ROOT (Colorado, Seattle)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Rockies RH Antonio Senzatela (7-1, 3.19 ERA) vs. Mariners LH James Paxton (3-0, 1.43)

Senzatela has been superb as a rookie and is tied for the National League in victories. He dominated the St. Louis Cardinals in his last start by allowing just five hits in eight innings during a 10-0 victory. Senzatela is 2-0 with a 3.52 ERA and 1.22 WHIP in four road starts.

Paxton, who is limiting opposing batters to a .190 batting average, will be activated from the disabled list prior to the contest. The 28-year-old hasn't allowed a run in four of his starts and has fanned 45 in 37 2/3 innings. Paxton lost his lone start against the Rockies in 2015 when he gave up three runs (two earned), two hits and three walks in three innings.

WALK-OFFS

1. Mariners DH Nelson Cruz (calf) was injured while playing RF in the National League park but Servais told reporters he should be able to serve as the DH on Wednesday.

2. Colorado placed RHP Adam Ottavino (shoulder) on the 10-day disabled list and recalled RHP Carlos Estevez from Triple-A Albuquerque.

3. Seattle 3B Kyle Seager went 3-for-5 with a homer and four RBIs on Tuesday and is 6-for-15 with six RBIs over the past three games.

Preview: Nationals at Giants
GAME: Washington Nationals (32-19) at San Francisco Giants (22-32)
DATE/TIME: Wednesday, May 31 - 10:15 PM EST
WHERE: AT&T Park, San Francisco, California

Bryce Harper appealed the suspension for his role in Monday's brawl and will be in the lineup when the Washington Nationals wrap up their three-game series against the host San Francisco Giants on Wednesday. Harper drew a four-game ban for charging the mound after being plunked by Giants reliever Hunter Strickland, who received a six-game suspension for his actions.

Nationals manager Dusty Baker thought Harper's penalty was too harsh as it was apparent to most observers that Strickland targeted Harper due to the two long homers the slugger launched off him in the 2014 National League Division Series. "It's always in their hands, so there's nothing the players can do about what's fair, what's not fair," Harper told reporters of the decision made by Major League Baseball. "Like I said, just going to appeal that four games and see what happens." The Nationals allowed just three runs while winning the first two games of the series and have captured seven of their last nine contests, while the Giants have dropped six of their last eight. San Francisco's Buster Posey is 5-for-7 in the series, and his run-scoring single on Tuesday represented his first RBI since May 15.

TV: 10:15 p.m. ET, MASN2 (Washington), NBCSN Bay Area (San Francisco)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Nationals RH Max Scherzer (5-3, 2.77 ERA) vs. Giants RH Matt Cain (3-3, 4.45)

Scherzer struck out a season-best 13 while dominating San Diego in his last start, when he gave up one run and three hits in 8 2/3 innings of a 5-1 victory. The 32-year-old leads the NL with 89 strikeouts and is holding opponents to a .189 batting average while posting a 0.94 WHIP. Scherzer is 2-4 with a 5.52 ERA in six career starts against the Giants and has only faced Posey twice, retiring him both times.

Cain has dropped consecutive starts, including an outing against Atlanta last time out in which he allowed two runs - one earned - and seven hits over seven innings. The 32-year-old has been inconsistent over his last five turns, twice giving up just one earned run and twice allowing seven or more. Cain is 7-5 with a 3.30 ERA in 17 career starts against the Nationals and didn't allow a run while beating them twice last season.

WALK-OFFS

1. The Nationals have won 22 of the last 35 regular-season meetings.

2. Giants OF Michael Morse was placed on the 7-day concussion list - he collided with RHP Jeff Samardzija during Monday's brawl - and INF Kelby Tomlinson was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento.

3. Harper struck out three times in five at-bats on Tuesday and is 0-for-8 in the series.
