MLB | Phillies vs Marlins
Play on: Phillies +127 at BMaker

Scott "The Bulldog" Rickenbach Free Pick for MLB Wednesday EARLY Philadelphia Phillies Money Line (+) @ Miami Marlins @ 1:10 ET - There is only one team in the majors with less than 20 wins and it's the Phillies at 17-33 and a .340 winning percentage. That said, I am well aware of the fact that this is a contrarian play but this line looks "funny" to me and I like going against the world when everybody is lining up on one side of a play. Most everyone is flocking to Miami here and yet we've seen the money line actually move toward Philly in this one. What that tells you is that the bigger dollars are coming in on the underdog Phils here and it is those larger-sized wagers that tell you where the sharp money is on this one. Philadelphia's Aaron Nola allowed just 1 earned run on only 4 hits in 7 innings in his most recent road start. Also, Nola has a 1.35 ERA and minuscule 0.75 WHIP in his 3 career starts versus Miami. Though the Marlins Daniel Straily did not allow an earned run in his start against the Phillies last season, he did give up 6 hits and 3 walks for an average of nearly 2 baserunners per inning in the 5-inning stint. In other words, Straily had to work his way out of some jams against the Phils and he also comes into this start having allowed 3 earned runs in each of his past two starts. The Marlins, when on a winning streak of 3 games or more, are 0-2 this season and 14-23 in recent seasons and 28-45 long-term. Look for Miami to drop to 1-8 in Wednesday games this season as the Phillies salvage a game out of this series and improve to 8-6 (and +4 net games) when they enter a game on a losing streak of 3 games or more this season. Free Pick on Philadelphia on the money line EARLY Wednesday. Best of luck, Scott "The Bulldog" Rickenbach

MLB | Tigers vs Royals
Play on: Royals -115 at Bovada

Free Pick on Royals -

I like the value here with Kansas City as a short home favorite against the Tigers on Wednesday. The Royals come in off a 1-0 win on Tuesday, where they were able to knock off Detroit's ace Justin Verlander. That's a tough loss for the Tigers to swallow, who have been struggling of late with a 3-8 record over their last 11 games.

KC will send out Ian Kennedy, who is 0-4 with a 4.43 ERA in 8 starts, but he's pitched much better than the numbers suggest. Kennedy has a very strong 1.149 WHIP and owns a 3.04 ERA and 0.972 WHIP in 4 home starts. Kennedy faced the Tigers 3 times last season and allowed just 4 earned runs in 18 1/3 innings. Detroit is countering with Matt Boyd, who is 1-3 with a 5.40 ERA and 2.057 WHIP in 5 road starts and faced the Royals twice last year, allowing 11 runs in 3 2/3 innings of work. Take Kansas City!

MLB | A's vs Indians
Play on: Indians -136 at betonline

The mediocre hitting offense of Cleveland is still getting better and better. They don't get stale on any side of their game. With 3 guys hitting 7+ dingers - they have enough damage to deal to Oakland. Oakland is batting so poorly is just cannot be all the hitting coach's fault. Oakland seems to have forgotten how to hit on the whole. A miserable .238 over the month of May. The Indians have won 3 in a row and I'll back them here on Wednesday evening.

My free winner for Memorial Day was the Over in the Braves-Angels contest in Anaheim. Last night my complimentary winner was on the Padres over the Chicago Cubs, an easy underdog winner.

Tonight I'm delivering another free total, as I like the Under in the Tampa Bay-Texas game.

IMPORTANT: As you know every single Run Line play and Total wager will automatically list the scheduled starting pitchers at the time of the wager, and I want you to be sure the following pitchers are the registered starters on your ticket when making your wager: Chris Archer and Austin Bibens-Dirkx. If one or both of these pitchers is not going, this is a no-play.

Let's start with Tampa Bay's ace, Archer, who is poised to break the club record for strikeouts in a month, in today's start against the Rangers. This has to be his most impressive start to a season, as his 51 Ks in May have him three behind David Price’s mark, set in June 2014. Archer's arsenal has been fantastic, as he's grooved pitches nicely, and is finding corners effectively. He's struck out a minimum of 11 batters in four of his last five starts.

Meanwhile, looking to make a statement, Bibens-Dirkx will make his first Major League start after pitching 11.1 innings in four relief appearances. Opponents are hitting .195 off him, including .172 by right-handed hitters and .250 by left-handed hitters.

I'll look for a pitchers' duel and play this low.

4* UNDER Rays/Rangers (Archer/Bibens-Drikx)

Tigers vs. Royals
Tigers +109 at BETONLINE

Tigers over Royals- Two AL Central bottom feeders face-off in Kansas City where the Royals are a game over at 13-12 but averaging just 3.40 runs per game. Ian Kennedy (0-4, 4.43 ERA) is still looking for his first win of the season and has has little run support getting just 2.5 runs per start. Detroit will start Matt Boyd (2-5, 5.40) who is winless in his last seven starts and is 1-3 with a 9.00 ERA in six career starts against the Royals. The Tigers were shutout 1-0 Tuesday and look to bounce-back here with a series closing win. Take DETROIT!

Preview: Diamondbacks at Pirates
GAME: Arizona Diamondbacks (32-22) at Pittsburgh Pirates (24-29)
DATE/TIME: Wednesday, May 31 - 12:35 PM EST
WHERE: PNC Park, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Having averted a season-long losing streak, the Arizona Diamondbacks look to remain unbeaten in seven straight series when they wrap up a three-game set against the host Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday afternoon. The Diamondbacks, who are 3-0-3 in their last six series, halted a three-game losing streak with a 3-0 victory Tuesday night.

Arizona has split the first six contests of its 11-game road trip after Robbie Ray tossed the team's first shutout with at least 10 strikeouts on the road since 2004. “It comes at a perfect time for us,” Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said after his team rebounded from dropping the series opener on Andrew McCutchen's walk-off homer. Pittsburgh, which lost catcher Chris Stewart and outfielder Gregory Polanco to injuries in Monday's game, managed only four hits Tuesday and was blanked for the first time since April 25. McCutchen is batting only .217 but has raised his batting average 17 points during a six-game hitting streak.

TV: 12:35 p.m. ET, FSN Arizona, ROOT (Pittsburgh)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Diamondbacks RH Zack Godley (1-1, 1.99 ERA) vs. Pirates RH Chad Kuhl (1-5, 6.29)

Godley registered his fourth consecutive quality start Friday at Milwaukee but did not factor in the decision despite tossing six scoreless innings of five-hit ball. He suffered his lone loss in his previous outing at San Diego, giving up three runs and eight hits over seven innings. Godley has allowed seven runs in his five starts and permitted only two home runs.

Kuhl was roughed up for five runs and eight hits over 4 1/3 innings in a loss to the New York Mets on Friday, falling to 0-5 in his last nine starts since winning his season debut. The 24-year-old has failed to pitch beyond five innings in each of his last seven turns. However, Kuhl was sharp against Philadelphia on May 21 with five scoreless innings of one-hit ball.

WALK-OFFS

1. Pirates INF/OF Adam Frazier, who entered Tuesday a 1-for-14 rut, was held out of the starting lineup but came through with a pinch-hit single in the eighth inning.

2. Diamondbacks 1B Paul Goldschmidt is 2-for-16 over the past five games.

3. Stewart, who was placed on the 10-day disabled list Tuesday, is scheduled to have an MRI exam on his left calf/hamstring.

Preview: Reds at Blue Jays
GAME: Cincinnati Reds (24-27) at Toronto Blue Jays (25-27)
DATE/TIME: Wednesday, May 31 - 12:37 PM EST
WHERE: Rogers Centre, Toronto, Ontario

The Cincinnati Reds entered their interleague series at the Rogers Centre on a bit of a power binge, but through two games north of the border, it has been the Toronto Blue Jays flexing their muscle. The Blue Jays go for their eighth win in the last nine games Wednesday when they eye a three-game sweep of the Reds.

Cincinnati clubbed eight home runs over the weekend in Philadelphia - including five in Sunday's rubber-match victory over the Phillies - and hit four more since arriving in Toronto, but that total has been about one game's worth of work for the Blue Jays. Troy Tulowitzki's second career grand slam was one of three blasts for Toronto in Monday's 17-2 series-opening victory, while Kendrys Morales' tiebreaking two-run shot in the eighth inning Tuesday was one of four Blue Jays' homers and proved to be the difference in a 6-4 triumph. "That's kind of who we are. Our team is built that way. Especially in this ballpark … you slug it out. We're starting to get that good feeling again that when we fall behind a little bit, we can strike back quick," manager John Gibbons told MLB.com. After watching his 11-game hitting streak snapped in the opener, Zack Cozart got right back on track with two solo shots Tuesday to lift his average to .350.

TV: 12:37 p.m. ET, FSN Ohio (Cincinnati), SportsNet One (Toronto)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Reds RH Tim Adleman (3-2, 4.95 ERA) vs. Blue Jays RH Mike Bolsinger (0-2, 5.75)

Adleman is coming off a sterling effort in a victory at Philadelphia on Friday, getting 16 groundball outs and giving up only a first-inning single to Andres Blanco over eight scoreless innings. The performance was in stark contrast to the Georgetown product's previous five outings (four starts) in which he posted a 7.77 ERA and made through six innings only once. Adleman hasn't allowed a home run in four of his last five appearances as he faces the Blue Jays for the first time.

Bolsinger remained winless in his last eight starts since beating the Reds as a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers on May 24, 2016, in Friday's no-decision against Texas. The 29-year-old allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits and four walks across 4 2/3 innings and has handed out at least four free passes in three of his four starts despite failing to complete six innings in any of them. Bolsinger yielded two runs and struck out six over 5 2/3 innings in last season's triumph over Cincinnati.

WALK-OFFS

1. Morales is 5-for-8 with a homer, two doubles, three RBIs and five runs scored in this series.

2. Cincinnati's .422 winning percentage in interleague play is the second-worst mark in the majors (Padres, .419).

3. Toronto 2B Devon Travis went 0-for-3 on Tuesday to snap his 13-game hitting streak, but he is still batting .368 in May.

Preview: Astros at Twins
GAME: Houston Astros (37-16) at Minnesota Twins (26-22)
DATE/TIME: Wednesday, May 31 - 1:10 PM EST
WHERE: Target Field, Minneapolis, Minnesota

The Houston Astros parlayed a scintillating outburst into a victory in the series opener and aim to defeat the Minnesota Twins again on Tuesday in the middle contest of a three-game set. Houston used an 11-run eighth-inning uprising to rally for a 16-8 win on Monday and will be looking for its sixth straight victory.

Designated hitter Carlos Beltran went 4-for-5 with a homer and three RBIs and shortstop Carlos Correa went 3-for-5 with a homer and three RBIs as the Astros racked up a season-high 18 hits in the opener. Houston boasts the best record in the majors (36-16) and is 20 games above .500 before the season is one-third over. Minnesota is just 1-3 to start a six-game homestand and has allowed 32 runs during the stretch. Twins third baseman Miguel Sano slugged his 12th homer in the opener but is just 2-for-20 over the past six games.

TV: 8:10 p.m. ET, ROOT (Houston), FSN North (Minnesota)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Astros RH Mike Fiers (1-2, 5.21 ERA) vs. Twins RH Jose Berrios (3-0, 1.66)

Fiers received a no-decision against Detroit in his last turn when he gave up four runs (three earned) and 10 hits over 4 2/3 innings. The 31-year-old owns a swollen 6.38 ERA in five road starts and is 1-0 despite serving up 11 homers in just 24 innings. Fiers, who is 3-1 with a 3.16 ERA in seven career appearances (six starts) versus Minnesota, has given up 18 total homers - tied for most in the majors.

Berrios has been superb in his three big-league starts this season by allowing just eight hits while striking out 22 in 21 2/3 innings. The 23-year-old gave up one run and four hits in 15 1/3 innings while winning his first two starts before defeating Baltimore - giving up three runs and four hits in 6 1/3 innings - in his last outing. Berrios, who turned 23 on Saturday, is 1-1 with an 8.59 ERA and 2.32 WHIP in two career starts against the Astros and has been hit hard by George Springer (3-for-4, one homer).

WALK-OFFS

1. Twins 1B Joe Mauer is 11-for-27 with six walks over his past six contests.

2. Houston UTIL Marwin Gonzalez is 8-for-15 with a homer and six RBIs over his last four games.

3. Minnesota CF Byron Buxton (lacerated ring finger) departed Monday's game and is uncertain for Tuesday.

Preview: Phillies at Marlins
GAME: Philadelphia Phillies (17-33) at Miami Marlins (20-30)
DATE/TIME: Wednesday, May 31 - 1:10 PM EST
WHERE: Marlins Park, Miami, Florida

A forgettable month of May appears to be ending on a high note for the Miami Marlins, but the same cannot be said for the Philadelphia Phillies. The Marlins have won consecutive series for the first time this season and look to notch their fifth victory in the last six outings Wednesday when they aim for their first three-game sweep of the Phillies in nearly five years.

Miami, which is only 9-18 this month despite its recent surge, tied a season high with its third straight win with Tuesday's 7-2 victory and appears to be slowly digging out of the 14-27 hole it created for itself, scoring at least seven runs for the third time during its 4-1 stretch. Marcell Ozuna went 3-for-5 with a solo shot and Giancarlo Stanton continued to thrive out of the No. 2 hole with a two-run blast to help the Marlins improve to 5-2 since he moved up in the order from his usual cleanup spot. Miami will attempt to earn its first sweep against its National League East rival since June 29-July 1, 2012, on Wednesday - a task that may not be all that difficult considering the Phillies have dropped 24 of their last 30. Philadelphia has scratched out only six hits through two games in Miami and scored two runs or fewer eight times in its last 10 contests.

TV: 1:10 p.m. ET, MLB Network, NBC 10 (Philadelphia)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Phillies RH Aaron Nola (2-2, 4.34 ERA) vs. Marlins RH Dan Straily (3-3, 3.83)

Nola endured his worst outing of the season in Friday's 5-2 loss to Cincinnati, surrendering a pair of home runs among the five runs and six hits he gave up in six frames. The Louisiana native had only yielded one homer over his first four turns and has been much better away from Citizens Bank Park, going 1-1 with a 3.18 ERA (1-1, 6.00 at home). Nola was sharp against Miami last year despite picking up two no-decisions, permitting three runs over 12 innings while holding the Marlins to a .190 average.

Straily extended his unbeaten streak to four starts with Friday's win over the Los Angeles Angels, although he allowed more than four hits for the first time in nine turns. The Marshall product, who ranks second in the majors in batting average against at .176, yielded three runs on six hits across 5 1/3 innings to the Angels and has been dominant at home (2-1, 2.45 ERA, .150 batting average against). Straily threw five scoreless innings against Philadelphia last year to win his only career start versus the Phillies.

WALK-OFFS

1. Tuesday's defeat guaranteed the Phillies their 10th consecutive series loss - their worst streak in 20 years.

2. Since moving up in the order seven games ago, Stanton is 12-for-29 with three homers and seven RBIs.

3. Ozuna, who has eight hits in his last four games despite going 0-for-4 in Monday's series opener, entered Tuesday 0-for-12 against Philadelphia this season.

Preview: Cubs at Padres
GAME: Chicago Cubs (25-26) at San Diego Padres (21-33)
DATE/TIME: Wednesday, May 31 - 3:40 PM EST
WHERE: Petco Park, San Diego, California

The San Diego Padres attempt to extend their winning streak to a season-high four games when they host the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday afternoon for the finale of their three-game series. San Diego has won three straight for the third time this year after recording a 6-2 victory on Tuesday.

Austin Hedges was the hitting star for the Padres, belting a two-run homer in the second inning before capping a four-run fifth with a two-RBI double. Chicago is hoping to salvage the finale of its disastrous six-game road trip. The Cubs were shut out twice while being swept of a three-game set by the Los Angeles Dodgers and look to avoid a similar result after scoring just two runs in each of the first two contests in San Diego. Kyle Schwarber launched a solo homer on Tuesday for his first hit since May 23 while Jason Heyward recorded his second consecutive two-hit performance.

TV: 3:40 p.m. ET, WGN (Chicago), FSN San Diego

PITCHING MATCHUP: Cubs RH Jake Arrieta (5-4, 4.92 ERA) vs. Padres RH Luis Perdomo (0-2, 5.61)

Arrieta has lost three of his last four decisions, including a setback against the Dodgers in Los Angeles on Friday in which he yielded four runs over six innings. It marked the fifth time in his last seven outings the 31-year-old former National League Cy Young Award winner has surrendered at least four runs and fourth time this year he has served up two homers.
