Hope you enjoyed the game. What a turnaround. Ball was in IC possrssion almost the whole 2nd half. Are the crowds as wild for a game that 2 teams are going home?? Are you going to anymore??

yes, it was a great atmosphere. lot of serbia supporters in munich and almost all the "neutral" spactators were rooting for ivory and wearing orange/green stuff..big fun and a great match (i think much more fun than watching holland/ARG at the same time). no more game for me. i had this one and swiss/TOGO and it was a great time..from now on a lot of public viewing, which is amazing here in hamburg...60000-80000 fans and the after party on famous reeperbahn, which is just 50 meters away :dancefool :toast:

be back later with today s games (probably in 3 hours)

Friday:

Ukraine- Tunesia: over 2,2.5 @ 1.84

it s a similar set up to the USA/Ghana match. Ukraine needs a point, Tunesia a win. so both teams will go for the win here. Ukraine is the better team as Tunesia got problems on defense. all i need here again is a goal in first half and than the goals will come with the loosing team opening up and being vulnurable for the counter-attack. both teams have shown their ability to score and to conceide so far.
Onthe side i like ukraine, but not with the hdc as a draw is enough and they might play more defense if they take the lead and not go for a second goal, but i ll parlay them straight up with spain

2-team parlay: Ukraine to win @ 1.60 and Spain to win @1.14 for a combined 1.80

Ukraine see above. Spain should win here as they are clearly the better team. even if they dont need a win they will try to keep the momentum.to cover a -2 is too much in a game they dont need to.

France- Togo: Togo +2 @2.18

i ve seen togo live against swiss. they are relatively solid on defense and are very quick winning many balls by poor efford. it will be difficult for france to score here. Togo has no offensive power at all, but france, which is already struggeling so far might be up for a tough task to get a 2 goal win. no blow out here.

Swiss- Korea: no play

i expect a low scoring draw here. probably 1-1.

Hey, Chris,

Are you concerned about Pfister's comments that he wants to get a lot of subs in so as many players as possible can experience the cup? If it hadn't been for that comment, I woul LOVE to fade le Bleu!!!

Thanks for the great picks.

Knock out:

Saturday:

Germany: Sweden: Germany -0.5,1 @ 1.909 and over 2,2.5 @ 1.962

very tough game to predict betting wise...i definetely like germany to advance somehow. usually they ahve at least one tough and lucky win in world cups (overtime or penalties). i am just not sure if it will be today or hopefully against ARG.
Germany is on a run at the moment. they are very confident and the home advantage is huge. the strikers are on form and the defense seems to have settled down.
Sweden on the other hand had trouble scoring the first few games, but came back with a big efford in 2nd half vs. England. But then England played terrible, was shocked with owen-injury and left without strikers. Ibrahimovic is bak for them, which makes them much more dangerous, but i still believe this swedish team is not as strong as the teams they had in the past. they are struggeling more on defense and have the occasional mistake like with the 2-1 for England in a game they completely controlled. that will be very dangerous vs. germany.
Germany will go 90 min high temp, which will be too much for Sweden.
I like Germany to win here by one goal.

Total is at 2,2.5 at the moment. i lean towards the over. loosing scenarios would be a 1-1 or 2-0 germany. i dont think a 1-0 for either team is too realistic with the other team opening up at the end if behind. Therfore i ll go with the over here.

Argentina- Mexico: Argentina -1,-1.5 @1.833 !! 2 units!!

Argentina the much better team here. Mexico is disappointing so far. Just a scoreless draw to Angola and a loss in a game the wanted to win vs. a Portugal B-team. Their defense is not solid and will have no chance vs. Argentina. Also the offense might be no real danger for Arg's defense.
Stay away from the total, cause this might come down to Argentina scoring 3 times to cover and i dont expect them to go for a third if being in a 2-0 lead.

Italy- Australia: Italy -1 @ 1.971

Italy looks very strong to me. this team is definetely motivated to have a good showing despite all the scandals at home. they had trouble in a physical match (which can be expected also today) against USA, but it was strange with the sequence of red card anyway. They look to me more offensive than past italy teams and the defense is solid as ever.
Extra motivation and italy players talking about that is a re-match with australia's coach hiddink. they lost to him as a korea coach during last world cup. a loss that still hurts italy.
Australia on the other hand plays well organized and physical football. they are definetely no run over. they might have some injury trouble, as their goals scorer (2-2 vs. croatia) might be out. I just think they are not experienced enough to beat italy and will make enough mistakes, which italy can capitalize on.

Swiss- Ukraine: Swiss pk @ 1.746

Swiss is the better team so far. Very solid on defense (have not conceided a goal so far). Ukraine does not look too dangerous to me.they are lucky to be here and it will end today in what i expect to be a low scoring match. Swiss will have a home game atmosphere in what will be a fully packed "red" stadium as it was in all other games of swiss. This will also make them overcome the loss of senderos, although it s a tough one for the swiss.

Both games under 4.5 goals total @ 1.763

I expect both games to be low scoring. we have 4 very solid defense teams and at least 1 game should end 1-0, which leaves us for the other game to require 4 for a loss. i just dont see that.
BTW results so far in highly cometitive knock-out matches: 2-0,1-1,1-0,1-0

solid day yesterday. sometimes betting is fun. a boring game like swiss/Ukraine can be fun to watch when you are sitting on an under bet...

Tuesday

Brazil- Ghana: under 2.5,3 @ 1.806

Actually i dont like brazil with the hdc. you just dont know what they come up with. they might win easily and cover today, but they might as well struggle against a physical and defensively sound Ghana- team. Ghana has the disadvantage to play without suspended Essien, which makes them rather punchless on offense IMO. Therefore i am going with a Brazil win, but they will slow things down once they take the lead. Brazil coach said he does not care about comments from home: his philosopy is playing for result and he will continue to do that.

Spain- France: Spain pk,-0.5 @ 2.05 !! 2 units !! and over 2 @ 2.10

As everybody here i am big time on spain. they are way better than france in every aspect. France has no business of being here IMO. they just escaped from a weak group. They have trouble scoring and their def might be too slow for Spain.
Also i think chances are good that Spain scores at least twice, which gives the over a great chance.

Quaters:

Friday:

Germany- ARG: Germany to advance @ 1.89 and over 2 @ 1.847

This is IMO the highlight match of all the quarters. And i think it s the last chance to stop Germany. If they win today it will provide the extra push (with the confidence to beat a big team), which will lead them all the way.
To be honest there is not much between the teams:
Germany playing great offensive football so far, but the defense settled down also a lot since the opening game. After that opening game the team had an internal meeting talking about the defensive duties of EVERY player and that they will not go out all or nothing anymore. this seems to work and could be the key to the sucess. I dont think you cant prevend them from scoring. Klose cannot be controlled for 90 min. right now (not even from ARG). The big factor for Germany is next to the amazing home-support that they are probably the most physical and fit team. Even more than german teams in the past these guys can play high tempo for 90 min. That will wear down every defense. Especially as this is another afternoon game with hot weather here in Germany.
ARG was the most impressive team in first 2 matches, but the "fluke"- game vs. Holland seems to have stopped their great rythm somehow. We have all seen that the Mexico game could have been either way. Nevertheless they are still strong on defense and always very dangerous on offense.
Reason to pick Germany is home-advantage and the pressure and tempo they are able to apply.
For me the "advance" line is better than the "regulation time", not only because the line is better, but also because the above mentioned factors will be even stronger in a possible OT.

As a option to the game total you can pick team-total Germany over 1 @ 1.95, which is probably the better play anyway.

Italy- Ukraine: Italy -0.5,-1 @ 1.82 and over 1.5,2 @ 1.84

I am not sure, why everybody is complaining about italy. they are playing like they always do and are due to this style next to Brazil and Germany the most reliable team in every WC. This time is no diferrence. It doesnt have to be always nice, but they are producing the results. And that s the important thing for them and for us as bettors.
Even with all the injuries and suspension it will be very hard for Ukraine to score here. Actually i dont see how. the only thread sawtchenko is very well known to italian defenders from domestic league and Voronin is out with injury. Ukraine has IMO no business of being here. If not by a relative easy group and some strange decision vs. Tunesia they would not have made it out of the group and the swiss- game we dont have to talk about.
For the total: not the strongest play, as italy might win 1-0, but i just cant pass a total, which needs just 2 goals to win.

Hey chriscol, was wondering if this was old news and you had already factored it in or not, and whether it has any bearing or not.
Peace.(from coversuk)

Forgive many of the Italian players if their minds are elsewhere just days ahead of their quarterfinal showdown with the Ukraine.
The Azzurri were rocked Tuesday on the news Gianluca Pessotto, former player and current managing director of Italian side Juventus, was in serious condition after falling from a window at club headquarters.
Because of this, Juve players Alessandro Del Piero and Gianluca Zambrotta left the squad to be at his side but were scheduled to return Wednesday night.
“I`m devastated,” said captain and central defender Fabio Cannavaro. “Pessotto was the nicest guy in the world.”
If that wasn’t enough, the team learned that central defender Alessandro Nesta will miss his second straight game with a groin injury. That injury, coupled with the suspension of Marco Materazzi, leaves the Azzurri awfully thin at the back and now fourth choice Andrea Barzgali will start alongside Cannavaro.
Fortunately, they are up against a Ukraine side that has shown little offensive creativity this tournament. Their lateral style won`t trouble the Italians, who should be able to step up to cut those passes out and control the ball.
This will allow the favorites to play their typical conservative style of football and gut out a typical Italian win. Our pick: Italy 2, Ukraine 0
