Boston at Baltimore

Play over 10

John Smoltz pitched poorly last week and faces Hill, who has an ERA of 7.20. The Orioles have 35 overs, 16 unders and 5 pushes in their last 56 on Tuesdays. They have gone over in 6 of 8 vs. the AL East.
Baltimore was shut out last night so look for them to bounce back and score a few runs in a game that goes over the total.

San Francisco at ST. LOUIS

Normally, this might be a big-billed pitching showdown. But now that win No. 300 is out of the way, there are no more monumental wins or anything to get motivated for when it comes to Randy Johnson. We’re better off with Chris Carpenter, who is 5-2 on the season with a stifling 1.78 ERA.

The Cardinals’ right-handed ace is throwing tremendously right now and has been tossing quality strikes by using an array of pitches - his fastball, cutter, curveball and changeup – to keep batters off-balance. He's a handful, much more than the Big Unit will be for the Cardinals, who will be hungry after losing last night.
Johnson's velocity has dropped since his dominating years of the late 1990s, and though his effectiveness hasn't, he’s certainly hittable. In two games against the Cardinals last season, the Big Unit went 0-1 with an ERA of 9.31. Last night the Giants won in a rout, tonight it’ll be the Redbirds.

Chicago Cubs at Pittsburgh

Someone is not paying attention here, and it is the oddsmakers. Ohlendorf has led the Pirates to a 6-1 mark in his last seven home starts. Against a Cubs team that has just 15 road wins in 39 tries, and four of the 15 came by a single run, so they would of covered -1.5 on the road in just 11 of 39! Those are not the kind of numbers you want to hitch your cart to, especially against an under the radar Pirates team winning 21 of 36 at home, and recently unbeatable at home if given +1.5 runs, as they would be 15-2 in their last 17. I'm going with the Pirates on the runline.

Pick: Pittsburgh +1.5

Sacramento at Chicago

The Monarchs have been a decidedly OVER team cashing 10 of their last 14 to the OVER, and on one day's rest they play better and score more, and are a perfect 5-0 to the OVER. The Sky has also been 5-0 after an ATS loss, and four of the past five meetings between these two teams have pushed OVER the posted total.
I will go with the OVER here.

Pick: OVER 144

MINNESOTA (-140) vs KANSAS CITY

Minnesota Twins starter Scott Baker has mostly positive memories of facing the Kansas City Royals. His last start isnt one of them. Baker looks to win his fourth straight decision Tuesday night and exact some revenge on the Royals when the Twins continue their three-game set at Kauffman Stadium. The right-hander had been 5-0 with a 1.87 ERA in his previous six starts versus the Royals (33-42) heading into his outing May 3. Baker (5-6, 5.17 ERA) took a no-hitter into the seventh inning before Kansas City chased him with five straight hits, and all of them scored as he was eventually charged with a 7-5 loss; I look for him to return to form this evening; it's interesting to note that the Royals are a horrible 1-5 (-3.8 units) as a home dog of +125 to +150.

Tuesday's Comp Selection

7 of 10 of comp winners. Take Under 9 between the Minnesota Twins @ Kansas City Royals (8:10pm). I've tracked Brian Bannister as I do all AL pitchers this year and he has a trend that has been profitable this season. He will have a bounce-back after he gives up a non-quality start usually. He comes off a loss at Houston where the Royals fell short 4-5 and he gave up 5 runs in 6 innings. I look for him to bounce-back today at home against the Twins. Yet, it is tough for me to take the Royals on the dog price as the Twins this decade for the most part love playing small ball and this year is no different. Plus, how can one go against Scott Baker (the Oklahoma State alum) as he comes off 5 straight quality starts and is 3-0 in the last 5 games. Rather, let's attempt to have both pitchers work for us as we look to cash on the Under.
The Under is 6-1 when the Twins are road favorites of late and the Under is 4-0-1 for the Royals as Underdogs of late.

On Tuesday the System total is on the over in the NY.Mets-Milwaukee game.Rotation number 959/60 at 8:05 eastern. What we want to do is play the over any time we have a road favorite of -140 or higher that scored 5+runs and had 10+ hits and the opponent scored 10 or more runs. 8 of the 9 times this system has popped up its has cashed averaging 12.5 runs per game.Tonight the Mets send lefty J.antanna to the mound and he hasnt bee great on the road this year with a 4.79 era.In fact he has a 6.23 era in his last 3 starts.Milwaukee has youngster Burns majing his second start after allowing 4 runs in 5+ innings in his debut. The Mets are a 100% 5-0 to the over on the road this year if the total is 8 to 8.5 in their road games. The Brewers are scoring 5.2 runs per game vs leftys this year and have gone over 8 of 12 times on Tuesday. In the series over the last 3 years 5 of 7 games have flown over the total.Backed by the solid systems and qualifying angles we go over the total here tonight.Id also like to thank everyone for all the positive feedback on Monday nights radio show.Take the over in the Mets-Brewers game. play bol tonight-GC-

Washington Nationals vs. Florida Marlins

Florida Marlins -145

We cashed in with the Marlins on the run line last night for a nice +120 winner and the Fish are worth a 1 unit wager for me tonight as I don't feel Nationals rookie starter Craig Stammen gives them a very good chance to win. He is just 1-3 on the season with an ERA of 5.49. Marlins rookie southpaw Sean West gives his team that better chance to win tonight as he goes after his fourth win in five starters and boasts an ERA of just 3.38 this season. Plus, the Nationals are 0-5 in their last 5 road games vs. a left-handed starter and 7-32 vs. an NL starting pitcher whose ERA is 3.50 or better over the last 2 seasons. The Marlins have won 8 straight against the Nats and I look for this streak to reach 9 games tonight.

Today’s Free Pick

New York Mets @ Milwaukee Brewers Jun 30, 2009 8:05PM

PICK: New York Mets

REASON FOR PICK: The Brewers come in as the hotter team and they took yesterday's opener, winning by a score of 10-6. The Mets figure to have the edge on the mound here though. After a rare off-stretch, Santana has bounced back with back to back solid efforts. For the season, he's now 9-5 with a solid 3.08 ERA and 1.204 WHIP, numbers which are really inflated due to the bad start against the Yankees. He's averaged greater than six innings per start and has more strikeouts than innings pitched.

Most recently, Santana held the Cardinals to two runs (one earned) through seven innings, en route to a 3-2 victory. That was against another elite pitcher in Chris Carpenter. Here, he'll be opposed by Mike Burns.

While Burns may have the better name and the healthier team, he'll be going up against a former Cy Young award winner and he has yet to prove himself at this level. His lone start resulted in a 6-4 loss to the Twins. He gave up six hits, three walks and four runs in 5 2/3 innings. That translates to a 6.35 ERA and a 1.587 WHIP. Not very impressive.

Santana's teams are 6-2 against the Brewers, including 4-2 and 1-0 victories in his last two starts against them. Santana had 17 K's to just one walk in those games. With the Mets at 5-0 on the season after giving up double-digits in their previous game and the line having come down a bit from it's opener... Consider New York

PICK: New York Mets

Tuesday ... 40 DIME RAYS (WITH Garza) - This kid Matt Garza is real-deal Holyfield, and will emerge as one of the best pitchers in baseball over the next few years. Believe that. And with off-speed abilities, and the Rays’ recent surge, they will earn their season-high seventh straight win. The Rays have passed the Blue Jays in the American League East, they have their sights set on the Yankees, and they’re gunning for the Red Sox.

The Blue Jays continue to show us the hot-and-cold streaks. On May 18, the Blue Jays were 3-1/2 games ahead of Boston after winning 27 of their first 41 games. The Rays on the other hand had clawed their way back to .500 (20-20) after losing 14 of their first 22. Ever since, Toronto has lost 23 of 37 while Tampa Bay has won 23 of 38 to move two games within the Blue Jays for third place in the East.

This team is playing tremendous with its offense, as they’ve scored a major league-best 438 runs. And as we saw last night, Blue Jays' offense continued to struggle after a rough weekend against the defending champion Phillies. They were limited to no runs and two hits through the first six innings, and barely scratched their way into the game last night.

Garza might be a mere 3-3 in six starts against the Blue Jays, but he has a stingy 1.99 ERA and is 3-0 when receiving at least one run of support. Take the Rays tonight, as they continue their torrid run.

COMP.

For today I do have one game that is worth an investment.
That's the good news...the news that will make some of you laugh
is that today's best investment comes via the WNBA. You don't
need glasses and that's not a typo. Today we're looking at the
Chicago Sky. A Solid team facing a Sacramento team that is
real bad on the road. As much as I like the Sky in this spot,
-7.5 is a bullshit line in pro basketball....mens or womens.
It might as well be 10 because that's the type of game you need
when you lay that number.

Now, I am a believer in using point buys. Some of you may not be.
Do you know why the Las Vegas Strip casinos only let you buy 1 point
and won't let you buy off or on 3? There was an extensive
study done on the VALUE of buying points and what it's actually
worth. The results....buying 1 point is not even worth the -130 you're
going to pay for it and that's why the Vegas books will let you
buy 1 all day because in the long run it actually improves their
bottom line. On the other side, buying 3 points in an NBA game
when the favorite is between -4 and -12.5 is actually WORTH
-190. So when you go to a book who will give you -170 on a
three point buy guess what....you've got 20 cents of VALUE built in.
That's why a lot of books will give you a 2 pt buy for -150 but 3 points
will cost you -190.

Take it for what it's worth. Some of you will always be against it
and others will be for it but I can only go by my own bottom line
and it says that staying on -7.5 in this game is bad news. The Sky
have won all their home games but are 2-2 ATS. Both non-covers
were by 1.5 points I believe. Since I see this as a tricky number
I'm taking a full 3 point buy here and going to -4.5. With
Sacramento giving up 82 points per game on the road it shouldn't
matter but if it's tight and a free throw war breaks out I want to
be laying less than 5 and I'm more than willing to lay the -170 to
do it. Sometimes that's just the price of doing business.

WNBA - CHICAGO SKY -2.5 -170 [3 Point Buy} 850 / 500
