Too many moving pieces for me so far. I watched with 90% attention and its hard to follow. For example... i know Caspere was Vaughns partner in the railway deal. However... we never saw Caspere alive. We are getting bits and pieces about who he was. The Caspere investigation is tying the three previously unrelated detectives together (each of whom has their own bac story) as well as Vaughn. I guess my problem so far has been having FOUR characters develop simutaneously with very little connection to each other. If the viewer disengages for a minute, thete is a feeling of being lost.
Anyway... i am all in on this season purely based on last season. I will keep watching to see where it goes.
Side note on episode 2... the mother of the "paul" character was kind of freaky. I am gping out on a limb and predict she has a thing for her son which has f'd him up pretty good in the head. There was a very weird vibe and dialoge between she and son.
They fucked up casting Vince Vaughn as a bad ass. Him acting tough is laughable. Looks awkward.
Ok... New episode tonight. 3 things:
1. The bullet fest at the end was really well shot, it had me on the edge of my sit for 10mins or so.
2. The chemistry between the actors is really weird, is like there is no sync. I know Woody and Matthew are outstanding and is not a fair comparison but this show is not what it was on season 1. Even the intro is subpar.
3. By episode 4 season 1 I was hooked and already had my theories on the whole shabang (and wasnt that far-off). Season 2, episode 4 I have more questions about the show's direction than the plot itself, and that's saying a lot.
I'm not saying I don't like season 2. But I can safely say season 2 is inferior without being final.
I think it's pretty good. First season was awesome but understandable with Woody and Matthew. Did I miss what was the original connection with Vaughn's character and Farrell's? Where did they first get tied up together?
Vince Vaughn is beyond horrible. I thought he might improve over that uncomfortable opening scene he had with the Russian mobster in episode one. But he has progressively gotten worse. He's just not a great actor. Especially for the part he has to play. His character is based entirely on his ability to intimidate people. But there just isn't anything scary about the guy. I think we've seen him in too many comedies to start believing he can pull off this bad guy routine.
