Today's top NBA teams are sooo much better than the ones from 80's and 90's

Here is a better question. Who would rather watch old school basketball vs. Today's game? I won't watch the NBA anymore.

Toughness has to be within your personality and upbringing so advantage to the players from 80s-90s who were not as spoiled or coddled. Today's player definitely has the upper hand on diet, nutrition and exercise regiments plus professional trainers as that has evolved quickly. I.E. see Tom Brady.

Hakeem Olajuwons offensive game in todays era would be totally and completely unstoppable.

possibly the most underrated player in nba history

Why would it be?

Since today's guys wouldnt have to worry about the 3 point shot, they could pack in the paint like sardines, just like it was done back in the day

Easy adjustment.

Would be much easier going from guarding sideline to sideline vs guarding a 15X10 area, then the other way around

Today's players can toughen up in a hurry if they had to. But the other guys couldnt all of a sudden shoot better

You're kidding right?

Carlito said it and I reinforce it. Toughness is a state of mind. Today's young men would be torn apart by young men of two generations ago.

Take away the three point shot and today's players wouldn't have a chance.

There used to be a player or two on each team whose sole job was to go in and rough things up, goons. No such thing in the NBA anymore.

Yes cause it would be a waste of a roster spot.

It would be 5 vs 4 on the floor (because usually the goons werent very good).. advantage 5

Btw the old timers would have to spread apart so far, that Laimbeer couldnt disguise his patented 10-4 elbow to the face as "securing the ball"

Most of the top teams had 1-2 unathletic players (by today's standards) that would be a liability.

What role would Rodman and Longley play vs GSW's up tempo style???
They would be fish out of water.

They would be a liability on offense and not very useful on defense (neither could play near the basket, they would have to come waaayy out)

Would Bill Lambier Dennis Rodman and Isaiah Thomas be the bad boys in today’s game? Was a lot of brawls back in the day.

Much less so. Because they would have to space out. There wouldnt be 8 pitbulls fighting for a piece of meat in a 5 feet X 5 feet area.

Many say how there is less defense nowadays. I disagree (I am talking about late season and playoffs)

Just go to youtube and pick a classic game to watch and you will see MANY uncontested mid-range jumpers.
And compare it to today where almost everything is contested AND IT STILL GOES IN!!!

How would that up tempo Golden State style work if there were no three point shots?

My original premise was 80's and 90's vs today.

3 point shooting was always present.

But yes that would make things interesting.

I still would pick today's guys but it would be closer

True. The 3 point shot came into being in the '79-80 season. Time flies.

I guess when all is said and done I loved the pre 3 point NBA. Toughness WAS a big part of the game. Big men had much more meaning to the game, even if they weren't as athletic as today's big men. Shot blockers worked their magic in the paint. Toughness down low was essential to successful teams.

Now everybody is spread out firing away. This is not a fun game for me anymore.

Dont play much anymore. Actually I havent played in like 6 months.

Kinda done with pool.

Told you I quit cause I got frustrated because I stopped improving.
I mean I am/was pretty good. My high run in straight pool is 78.
Not great but nothing to sneeze at either

we're probably similar levels - I feel like every three months or so I am better than I was prior but who knows - I don't play straight pool because no one plays it much - I have a 9ft Olhausen with shimmed pockets - Ive gotten into the 11 rack by breaking - spotting anything that went in - and taking ball in hand behind the 2nd diamond after the break - but 78 where you have to break it open too seems pretty good

That's also me playing by myself with zero pressure

Playing with yourself is a time honored way to relieve pressure
