I hear the Gaylord Perry argument a lot as well. Yes, he admitted doctoring the ball (other guys like Sutton were suspected of this as well), but I consider that gamesmanship more than cheating- in that the umpire could have and should have stopped it. Same thing as using a corked bat. These things were against the rules of the game, but were done right under the nose of the umpires. With steroids, how can you tell whether a guy has been sticking a syringe in his ass outside of a piss/blood test? The results are also much more dramatic, people use the 'You still need hand/eye coordination" argument a lot, but Canseco breaks down all the benefits in his book. the changes in not only muscle mass but 'twitch speed' are dramatic, how else could a stiff like Luis Gonzalez hit 57 home runs?

I've never walked the course i have however played the course. It's insanly hard. i played some of the best golf of my life and shot a 89 from the tips. BTW #17 is a pretty easy hole, #18 is way way harder.
89 is a good score from the tips. I just don't have the distance anymore to attempt playing it off the back tees. I've heard that the hard part about the 17th hole is trying to get a guage on the winds swirling around it. The green itself is big. But I think it's the 6 inches between the ears that dooms most golfers there. I heard one guy shot a 66 on that hole 25 years ago. He had to end up putting over the walkway to the green to finish the hole...LOL. I think if I played that hole I wouldn't be using my best Titliest ball.

I hate it when I bash Bonds, McGwire, Palmeiro, Sosa, et. al and someone chimes in by saying that Mantle, Mays, Rose, etc. 'cheated' by taking greenies, which are basically the equivalent of a NoDoz and a 5 Hour energy today (not to mention all the guys with under the table 'ADHD' prescriptions these days as well). How can anyone look at Mantle and Mays once they hit their late 30's and say they cheated? Mantle abused his body with alcohol to the point where he was basically done at 33 or so, Mays was running circles under fly balls in the '73 series, and Aaron had a beer gut in his late 30's. I highly doubt any of them used performance enhancing drugs. Meanwhile, guys like Bonds and Palmeiro were putting up career seasons at the same age. All of those guys ruined the integrity of the game with their cheating and video game stat padding.

Anyway, back to Tiger. I have strong suspicions that he had a little 'extra help' as well for a few reasons. First, he went from Steven Urkel to completely ripped in a few years. Second, he's been associated with shady doctors, and third, his joints are starting to break down (if the injuries can be believed). Some people, including friends of mine, are huge fanboys of him. They are grown men, and just idolize the guy. I don't get it, I've actually always rooted against him. I've noticed the same thing with Pujols in that his fanboys are over the top (I have suspicions that he 'uses' as well, but that's another thread)

After tigers last knee surgery his weight went down to 165 lbs. Docs told him to keep his weight there don't go over 165, don't run, do heavy lifting etc....tiger bulked back up to 195 lbs, started running, did heavy lifting....pretty much everything the docs told him not to do, he did. Personally, I don't think he did roids. If he did do roids, I dnt think he was doing them to get stronger, if anything to recover from injuries. Brandel Chamblee said all this yesterday in case you are wondering where I'm pulling this from, not the roids stuff but the doc and weight stuff.

I dnt think its that big a deal that he is strong without roids. Pro athletes aren't typical chumps like us, and nobody has ever questioned tigers workouts.

I boycotted baseball years ago when all the steroids BS came out. Don't go to games and don't watch it on TV. I also lost all respect for baseball. But I will always blame Selig and the owners for letting it go as far as it did. I honestly believe the only reason something was done was because Bonds broke the record and since Selig is a friend of Aaron and hates Bonds, he decided to finally do something about it....thats just my opinion

Good post, agree with you that Selig is good part of the issue

Whether he did roids or not, Not sure if it would be that big of a deal in golf.

Im curious if you have ever seen Tiger in person and if so, when was it? I saw him play in Milwaukee in his 1st pro tourney back in 96 and I remember saying to mysef when I saw him that he was much bigger than I thought or looked on TV. Not that he was huge, but he was built and pretty muscular at the very start of his pro career. He was definitely no Urkel thats for sure...

They say pound for pound he is one of the strongest athletes ever at Stanford. Don't know what the hell pound for pound means, but the guy has always been strong

I agree, thats why I questioned Gil's statement about going from Steve Urkel to being completely ripped in a few years.

I read your posts and then looked at some footage of Woods at Stanford. Gotta retract the Urkel comment because his lower body was pretty solid. He did bulk up his upper body after joining the tour, but he wasn't nearly as scrawny as I thought.

#17 is definatly more mental than anything. Its only like 137 yards from the back tees, which for me is a 3/4 wedge. Its a fairly easy shot. The hard part about playing it from the tips is its over 7200 yards. So it forces you to hit driver off the tee and with the rough 4" or higher you need to hit fairways to have any chance of making pars. I cant tell you how many times i had to chunk a 7 iron out of the rough just because there was no way to get the ball to the green cause of the tall rough.

Bump fit a Tiger birdie 2020 US Open

[h=2]Hole 6 – Par 4[/h]Short par 4 here and TW takes less than driver and finds the right edge of the fairway. Useful shot. Ooh baby he likes this one and for good reason. Tiger goes pin-seeking here and gets this one to stop just six feet from the hole. For once he has this for birdie and not a par or bogey save. Boom goes the dynamite. First birdie of the day for the Big Cat.
