That's on the east coast, right? Not for me. Southwest USA all the way.

Btw, port Royal, where P. Island is located, and Beaufort, are two different cities with entirely different things. Both have about the same population, but entirely different peeps, but none matters for the OP's original case though because it is too small. Hilton Head may work, but it's gonna be too expensive, like he stated about Charleston, but if I had to choose Charleston, Mt. P would work, so would Folly Beach, and James Island, which are more affordable in that area, unless you wanna dip on out a little further to Hanahan and N. Chucktown.

King, if I had a real opportunity to move to Wilmington I'd pack up my shit immediately. I think it's definitely worth taking a trip there to check it out. IMO it's the best city in NC. My industry has nothing in that area so for the time being I gotta stay in Charlotte.

I'd love there too, honestly. If I ever get switched to the nuclear division(gas and wind so far so who knows), I'm there dude...lol

Sorry your panties are bunched up over it Matty. But in my original post I said, maybe if you drive 15 minutes out of town. Beaufort is a shitty, worn out military town...w/ strip clubs, tattoo shops, used car lots (everywhere), Bojangles Chicken, payday loans, thrift shops, greasy spoon cafes, etc.....and TED's, did I mention them?

Panties in a bunch, lol. None of that in the parts of Beaufort I've seen and visit. Beautiful beaches, lighthouses, and the best shrimp you'll ever catch and eat.

Be honest, when's the last time you've been, 30
years ago for a 8 week boot camp, or never?

5 miles can make all the difference in the World, especially in a Coastal town. Let's go 3 hrs north to Myrtle Beach. In the center of the Strip, it's a tourist shit hole, 5 miles north, it's nice, 5 miles further to Carolina Beach and the likes of Pawley's Island, and it's amazing. Same if you go South 5 miles to Surfside and Garden City and it's great, 5 more miles, and it's like paradise...

Beaufort has been rated #1 small Coastal town before, top 10 small towns to live in, but like stated, it's "small" and won't work for the OP. If Port Royal and Parris Island were considered part of Beaufort, it wouldn't get the ratings, nor would the rich folk flock there, but it doesn't because it's in Port Royal, and in itself, PI, SC.

Being in the middle of Chucktown and Savannah (another cool coastal town) also has its perks for many, but who knows...

Thanks Weezy. We took a trip to Charlotte about 3 year or so ago, and really liked it. would have been the place for us to move had we done it years earlier when my kids were younger, but not now.

From my experience, the area 5-7 miles surrounding any military installation is usually shitty due to the cheap land/rent. Outside of that, you can find some nice places.

But, you've never been so you don't know, right? Thinking Beaufort and Parris Island are the same is just ludicrous.

cheap land and rent, lol, homes in Beaufort go for up to $8M with land selling for more than a $1M an acre. Sure they're are $200k homes too, but they aren't occupied by folks there for Parris Island...

too many variables/factors....for the right situation I would live nowhere near the water. Just depends.
Come 3 hours to the Upstate, or to outside the Tri-cities area or Charlotte. I chose the upstate because we have the cheapest gas in the entire nation, housing, taxes, and the jobs pay the same. 30 min from a huge lake, 45 min buried in the Mountains, 1.5 hrs to the big city (Atlanta or Charlotte), and 3 hours to Chucktown and surrounding areas with the best beaches you could want...good luck in your search.

Never been where? I've been to Beaufort yes.

I was speaking in generalities not about Beaufort specifically.

In general then, I agree, but Parris Island ain't Fort Bragg, Benning, Knox, or some huge ass military base. Hell up the road in Chucktown the Naval Base is way way larger, and it hasn't affected it at all...

It's weird too that many bases have shit areas outside of one gate but million dollar areas out another gate.

The gates for PI come out nowhere near Beaufort. They are separated completely by water.
