yep. lets rig a game on national tv in primetime with a million people watching. brilliant idea.
ref was out of position, plain and simple. it happens.
the fact that those kinds of things dont happen MORE is whats most surprising.
Please tell me you're kidding. Instead of stepping out of the way, the ref obviously stepped in the way. Total bullshit.
Anyone see the Penn St. game? Michigan up by 3 at the half and somehow they don't cover. Penn St. decides to pass (even though they're up by 22) with 2 minutes left and dude runs 80 yards for the TD and cover. Fucking ridiculous.
You guys obviously didn't watch the whole play. It started up the middle, and became a broken play. The ref was getting out of the way, and then the runner changed his course. It looks bad if all you see is the ending, but in all honesty, who wouldn't brace themselves if they were about to get hit? And if the umpire was "on the take," don't you think he would have thrown a flag when they scored?
Bizzare play. But certainly nothing to cry fix over.
I had to drop into this thread to laugh at the author. Let me get this straight....you believe the game was rigged by the refs because of this one weird play that didn't change the outcome at all? You do realize that <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comffice:smarttags" /><st1:City w:st="on"><st1lace w:st="on">Carolina</st1lace></st1:City> scored a TD two plays later don't you?<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>

Here's my take...if you're open minded enough to listen:<o></o>
<o></o>
That particular ref had been used as a screen by Spurrier, REPEATEDLY during the game. <st1:City w:st="on"><st1lace w:st="on">Carolina</st1lace></st1:City> was running a crossing pattern all night that depended on rubbing the defender on the ref. Now, for those of you who didn't play college ball, you don't realize that refs actually change their position during the game to make certain that the offense cannot count on them as obstacles....but sure as shit, Carolina kept at it. My impression is that the ref was tired of it and got offensive with Garcia....but who knows really.<o></o>
<o></o>
One thing for certain is that the guy wasn't "on the take"....because this play didn't mean shit in terms of the drive or game's outcome.<o></o>
