Violence & Money

How can anyone live on planet earth and not realize that at any given time, anyone could be on the take. Once someone gains influence, they have gained power. They are then bought and sold like any other commodity.

South Carolina was given a BS touchdown on that set of downs, on 4th and goal....which in my opinion more than made up for the ref tackle

OMG that is hilarious! He thought that side of the field was wide open and laid the great shoulder block! He even looks at the QB after like it was his fault! NCAA definitely needs to look into that ref's finances! Wow, I thought that was CGI at first!

If I was Les Miles I'd use this film as an example of how a LB should stay at home and let the play develop before he commits himself to the runner. There's something to be learned from this. The ref still knows his basics.

yep. lets rig a game on national tv in primetime with a million people watching. brilliant idea.

ref was out of position, plain and simple. it happens.
the fact that those kinds of things dont happen MORE is whats most surprising.

Please tell me you're kidding. Instead of stepping out of the way, the ref obviously stepped in the way. Total bullshit.

Anyone see the Penn St. game? Michigan up by 3 at the half and somehow they don't cover. Penn St. decides to pass (even though they're up by 22) with 2 minutes left and dude runs 80 yards for the TD and cover. Fucking ridiculous.

That Ref was a Linebacker for my team(Kentucky) in the 60's. He was paying Garcia back for beating us last week

maybe michigan could have tackled him? then again, they were a 20+ pt dog for a reason ... theyre a horrible football team. and horrible football teams blow covers.

I had to drop into this thread to laugh at the author. Let me get this straight....you believe the game was rigged by the refs because of this one weird play that didn't change the outcome at all? You do realize that <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Carolina</st1:place></st1:City> scored a TD two plays later don't you?<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
Here's my take...if you're open minded enough to listen:<o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
That particular ref had been used as a screen by Spurrier, REPEATEDLY during the game. <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Carolina</st1:place></st1:City> was running a crossing pattern all night that depended on rubbing the defender on the ref. Now, for those of you who didn't play college ball, you don't realize that refs actually change their position during the game to make certain that the offense cannot count on them as obstacles....but sure as shit, Carolina kept at it. My impression is that the ref was tired of it and got offensive with Garcia....but who knows really.<o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
One thing for certain is that the guy wasn't "on the take"....because this play didn't mean shit in terms of the drive or game's outcome.<o:p></o:p>

I dont know if hes on the take or not but what if they hadn't scored a TD. And it sounds to me like the other refs might have given USC a TD as a result b/c they knew the shit storm they would all face as a crew for this guys TACKLE OF ANOTHER PLAYER. If a ref is willing to throw a shoulder what else is he doing. And when did it become ok for a ref to retaliate for being used as a pick.

You guys obviously didn't watch the whole play. It started up the middle, and became a broken play. The ref was getting out of the way, and then the runner changed his course. It looks bad if all you see is the ending, but in all honesty, who wouldn't brace themselves if they were about to get hit? And if the umpire was "on the take," don't you think he would have thrown a flag when they scored?

Bizzare play. But certainly nothing to cry fix over.

as is the case with a lot of your posts, what youve said is dead on. perhaps throwing a flag might be just a tad easier than taking on (sans equipment!) a d-1 athlete coming at you. as you mentioned - it was a bizarre play. no different though from when a ref gets in the way of a basketball or ump redirects a ground ball in baseball. of course south carolina should be annoyed .... for about 5 minutes. then you sack it up and move on.

More importantly, where have you been hiding? How was Gainesville? LOL, yup LSU sure ran down our throat. I hope you learned a lesson, but probably not.

I didn't say "I think the game was rigged but when the officials that are should be invisible get in a play things are going to come up. Thanks for the insight but you have to admit it looked intentional.
