My Analysis
II am going to come right with the boys from the Pacific Northwest.
It would be an understatement to say, these Ducks are playing their best ball of the year right now.
They closed the season losing 3 of their last 5 including at Arizona 103-83 and at home to Colorado 79-75.
On to the PAC-12 tournament, where in round one got by UCLA 68-66 and then a pair of revenge shockers.
As a 12 point dog, they shocked the world and beat Arizona outright 67-59. I don't know what was more impressive, the 8-point win or holding the Wildcats to 59 points.
With revenge #1 out of the way, off to the Championship game and revenge #2, as they disposed of Colorado 75-68, thus punching Altman's 8th NCAA tourney appearance.
In round 1 on Thursday, they manhandled South Carolina for a double digit win and now face this Creighton bunch.
These Ducks are a really tough match-up for the Blue Jays.
In Creighton's round 1 game on Thursday night, they took on Akron out of the MAC and disposed of the Zips 77-60.
What I took away watching that game was how the Zips 6'7 power forward Enrique Freeman abused the Blue Jays big man 7'1 Ryan Kalkbrenner.
Freeman, giving up 6 inches to Kalkbrenner, abused him to the tune of 21 points and 14 boards in the loss.
Now Mr. Kalkbrenner, allow me to introduce you to a man named N'Faly Dante.
The Ducks big man, standing at 6'11, is an absolute beast in the low post and while Kalkbrenner is attending to him, he has a buddy in 6'9 freshman Kwame Evans Jr.
That duo inside is a problem. Just ask South Carolina and while you are at it, as the Gamecocks about Jermaine Couisnard.
He went for 40 against them and without question will be the best guard on the floor today.
Folks, Creighton is beatable. Very beatable.
They got destroyed by 2 teams out of the Mountain West in Colorado State and UNLV.
The Rams hammered them in the Hall Of Fame Classic 69-48 while UNLV smacked them around at home 79-64.
I mean, even late in the season they lost at Butler 99-98 at Provence in OT 91-87 and at St.John's 80-66.
Then they are sent packing in their opening round game of the Big East tourney by Providence again 78-73.
Folks, you neutralize Kalkbrenner, limit the 3's and you take down Creighton.
Well guess what, with the personal Oregon takes the floor with, those are two things they will do very well tonight.
Don't be surprised to see Oregon win this game outright.
