My Analysis
This baby is going right down to the wire.
Last week the Green Bay Packers and head coach Matt LeFleur exposed the San Francisco 49ers defense all night long.
And for all intents and purposes, we should be having a Packers/Lions rematch in Detroit because Green Bay should have won the game.
The Packers ran for 136 yards on the Niners, had guys wide open all night long in the passing game and got the Niners for 3 pass interference penalties.
Simply put, at least for last Saturday night's game, the Packers were the better team.
Now here comes an even better team in the Detroit Lions.
In my opinion, Detroit has to do two things well today to have a chance to win: Have success running the football and get pressure on Niners QB Brock Purdy.
I believe the Lions, much like the Packers last week, will do both and when you can do those 2 things, you are not going to get blown out of any football game.
Just like the Packers last week and Detroit this week.
The Lions have a better running game, they have a better passing game with more experienced receivers and a more experienced QB than Green Bay.
Detroit offensively is going to have success against this Niners defense. Trust me and they will have enough success to put them in a position to win this game outright.
Now I know what everyone is saying about the Lions defense.
Well, maybe their defense has played badly at times this year, but one thing is for sure, the Niners aren't going to be able to run the ball.
The Lions defense has only allowed five 100 yard rushers this entire year: twice against the Bears, the Packers, the Saints and the Ravens.
And 3 of those 5 involved running QB's in Justin Fields and Lamar Jackson.
That means Brock Purdy is going to have to throw to beat them and judging from last week, I don't think he can.
This is only Purdy's 4th career playoff start and who was the last player taken in the draft.
The reason for his horrific performance last week was he felt pressure all game long from a Packers front that truly dominated the Niners offensive line.
And the only reason he had success on that last drive was the fact the Packer front was tired, he finally had some time to throw and he had his best drive of the game.
I am 100% convinced the Lions defensive front is better than Green Bays and will get just enough pressure if not more to force a couple of huge mistakes from Purdy.
Bottom line: I don't trust Brock Purdy in a game of this magnitude laying over a touchdown to make enough plays over 60 minutes to beat me.
And I believe Jared Goff will!!!!!
This dog will be in this game the whole way and grab all the points Vegas is willing to give you.
Don't be surprised to see the Lions shock the world and win the game outright.
