Sorry but making a big deal about a Penn State win over Ohio State is nothing. They still haven't proven itself against clearly superior competition. They needed a fumble to win that game as their offense was not just going to magically get going after being put in check all night.
This isn't about style points, I know the sport such as yourself. This team could not hang with superior teams like USC, Alabama, Florida, Texas, etc...
If they get to the title game, I will make a ton.
Sorry man, but I am of firm belief that you are wrong. And here's why I feel that way.
Everyone on this planet thinks college football is what it was 10 years ago. Heck, they think it is what it was 5 years ago.
The days of everyone being undefeated and having 100 teams with 1 loss are over. College football has serious parity now. With the expansion of the sport, more TV coverage than ever, etc, players know that they dont need to go to Texas, USC, Florida and sit 3 deep on the depth chart. They know they can go to Boise State and make some noise, play in a BCS game, get drafted and play top schools. They can go to Kentucky now and Vanderbilt and play in the supposively all powerful SEC and get drafted like the Jay Cutler's of the world. They can go to Arkansas and run hog wild on their way to a top 5 pick like D-Mac. They can go to Illinois with the big Zooker recruiting classes and be a part of a growing program.
The talent level is as even as it ever has been across the board. But people, and the general betting public have yet to catch up to this concept, yet they always preach it and they dont realize it.
"SEC is overrated." "Big 10 is in a really down year." "Big 12 is overrated they dont play anyone worth a damn out of conference and we have no idea how good they are." "ACC is the worst conference out there." "Big East is horrible ever since Rodriguez and Petrino left." "The Pac-10 is in a really down year. They are the Pac-1."
Well then what conference is good then? I mean how can everyone suck? PARITY.
In the old days, the whole top 10 was legit. If you beat a top 10 team, wow. That was a huge win. Now, if you beat a top 10 team, people are saying you havent played anyone yet. What gives?
These ESPN announcers keep feeding everyone the BS that these seasons are so CRAZY! They are nuts! Wow, no one is safe and anyone can lose and these past 2 or 3 years have just been NUTS! No they havent. Its just parity.
My point?
I'm sorry. But beating Ohio State at Ohio State is a very good win. There is more parity in college football so Ohio State is going to lose some guys, not go undefeated every year and they are going to drop a game or two more than what they usually do. The win doesnt show Penn State is invincible, but WTF else do you want from them? Not everyone can schedule Texas, Bama, USC and Florida at their place to prove what they can do.
Ohio State's only loss this year was to a USC team that you have hailed in many threads as the next messiah. So why is OSU such a bad team? You also said in a thread that OSU would beat PSU by 10 points if OSU felt like playing. Watching that game, they came fired up and then some and certainly felt like playing and lost. So I think it is fair to say that you have undervalued PSU so far this year, even if it is by a very small amount.
This is a new era of college football and every win is big, especially against very good programs like OSU at their place and their previous 8. To go undefeated in the modern college football world is a very big accomplishment. So far, give PSU their props. The OSU Title Games from the past 2 years have really skewed everyones thinking. I promise you, there arent many frauds running the table.
